The crazy thing is, if you count all the times Flair lost the belt and then won it as he came and left a territory, he’s more like a 50x world champion.
Seriously, nobody talks about how him being a “16x” world champion” was pretty much made up by wwe. Technically they should only count him as an 8 time world champ, since they’ve never owned nwa, nor have they even mentioned them in years.

I met Ric in I think 98, he was such a cool guy, couldn't have been any nicer and actually took the time to talk with me like he knew me, I grew up watching him in the NWA and told him to me he was the real world champion and told me how much he appreciated it, he's a good guy

Who is the champion is determined by the promotion. So it is more of a sign of popularity ( or villainy) to be champion. I admire the hell out of pro wrestlers after growing up at the beach around many of them in the 70's. It is a rough business mentally and physically. But the results are obviously pre-determined, so these records are about remaining popular. And nobody is more popular than the Nature Boy to this day! Not even his daughter. There are few places or communities Ric could go in without drawing a big crowd. And he may have the best known catchphrase in the entire world! "Woo!"

The record only holds up in the men's division as winnings only count towards the WWE or World titles. It's not being sexist but rather stating facts. She probably has set the record for most Women's world title wins but the 16 world title record is solely tied to the men's division.

It was before that but the NWA covered a massive areas (outside the northeast) and the Champion faced challenges from all over.

I always feel bad for people that pursue their famous parents same field. Or even if they just have a famous/rich parent at all cause if it's known then regardless of how good they actually are every accomplishment they ever receive will be disregarded as something their name got them. Makes me completely understand why jungle boy specifically wanted to hide his real name, and his dad as far as I'm aware never had a damn thing to do with wrestling which shows how deep it actually can go. If it was me I would want to embrace the name and be proud of it and be able to talk about it endlessly but we see exactly what going that route has done for Charlotte by looking at these comments. She stole the show at WrestleMania in one of the best women's matches I've ever seen and this still gets thrown in her face. Absolutely pathetic.
