Forres Mechanics 3 - 1 Wick Academy (17/04/2024) - Breedon Highland League

Highlights from our win at home against Wick Academy at Mosset Park.
The game started evenly, with the Cans making good use of the ball through the middle and creating a couple of chances. Our reward for these opening efforts came in the 12th minute, when Calum Howarth popped up at the back post at a corner to nod us in front. The first half continued in much the same fashion, however Wick often posed a threat on the counter attack. Nonetheless, the half ended 1-0.
It was a bit of a sticky start to the second half, with the boys finding it difficult to establish the composure on the ball they had in the first half. Despite this, the equaliser conceded on the 59th minute was a sore one, with Corey Patterson in goals making a good save only to see the resulting loose ball fired into the net.
The Cans were resilient and got themselves straight back up. Ben Kelly received a ball near the corner flag, and took on his man to force his way into the box, only to be bundled to the floor giving the referee no option but to award the spot kick. The kick was then cooly dispatched by Craig Mackenzie to restore our lead.
A well worked bit of play between Shaun Morrison and Ben Kelly enable Ben to get on the end of a nice ball across the face of goal in the closing minutes and ensure all 3 points would remain at Mosset Park.
