Forres Mechanics 1 - 0 Turriff United (20/04/2024) - Breedon Highland League

Highlights from our last match of the season against Turriff United at Mosset Park.
The first half was extremely tight, with chances limited for both sides. The Cans perhaps had the slightly better opportunities, however had not done enough as the teams went in level at the break.
The second half started in much the same manner however, as the half went on, we managed to impose a bit more control and there was a sense that the goal was coming. Turriff to their credit were still posing a threat themselves, and but for some better finishing, could’ve found themselves in the lead.
The deadlock would finally be broken on 85 minutes when a loose ball in the midfield was pounced upon and driven forward by Mark McLauchlan. He laid a pass off to Thomas Brady, who then laid off to youngster Jake Newlands. Jake perhaps would’ve wished to have a better first touch, however it allowed Brady to get back on the ball, drive a ball into the centre of the box, and who was there but Mark McLauchlan again to power a shot into the bottom corner and give the Cans a deserved lead.
The boys managed to hold out for the final few minutes to claim back-to-back wins and another 3 points to finish off the 2023/24 season. A fantastic way to end the season, and it was great to see 3 players direct from our Under 18’s team get minutes on the pitch.
