  • On Episode #216 of The Late Night Vision Show Hans and Jason review a type of optic they've never have before.....a thermal clip-on. If you go back over 2 years ago to Ep.96 they released a show titled "Are Thermal Clip-On's a Good Investment?" where they discussed their general thoughts of clip-on optics. Fast forward to now and here we are with them reviewing the new (to the US market) Pulsar Krypton 640 resolution thermal clip-on. The Krypton has been available in the European market for over a year now but it's finally made it's way to the US market and there has been a large "buzz" surrounding this optic. Is it the killer of all dedicated thermal rifle scopes? Is it the best choice for every hunter? Hans and Jason answer all these questions and many more in this review, so if you're even remotely interested in the Krypton, this show is for you.

    *** Why Hunt Hogs? ***
Our journey into wild/feral hog hunting started like many others living in rural communities. We didn't start hog hunting for fun or sport... we did it because we had to. You see, hogs cause millions of dollars of damage and destruction each year in rural communities and our situation was no different. Hogs were destroying our land and that our of friends and family. The vast majority of hunting stories that you hear about on this channel are hogs, boars and sows, taken from family land... this problem is personal for us...
    __________________________________________________
*** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

Great episode, just convinced me the value of having a daytime rifle and a dedicated night rifle. Will be calling you very soon. Thanks guys

Seems like a lot of moving stuff! Still saving for my next optic from y'all! This isn't the right one for me. Thanks for the honesty guys!

Glad I watched this! I was very close to buying one, but maybe the dedicated thermal scope on a dedicated rifle for night shooting makes more sense. Thanks for an honest review 👍🇦🇺

Wow. What a great review. I’m the biggest Clip On fan out there. However, everything we run is behind the Ocular and there is no POI issues. I was so excited to move the Krypton from rifle to rifle but that would stink at 2am trying to switch around. We switch rifles all the time using a MONOLOC and 3rd gen NV and take it on and off no problems so that everyone can use their own setup. U do have to mount the scope forward though on a Bolt gun but just extend the stock on an AR. I listened to every word. I’ll call you to look at a different option now. Thanks so much.

Little confused when watching this review, good cop (Hans) bad cop came to mind.
As you sell these Initially I thought you didn't want to sell many units, appreciate the honesty and agree with many points especially about swapping across rifles.
Having owned a Krypton for nearly 2 years, i am surprised to see the packaging that you guys get.
In the UK we get unit in a cardboard box and padded bag, the psp adaptor comes in a small box of its own.
Coming separately packaged means they send out the correct one for your scope, 42,50,or 56.
Found fitting the unit easy once you get the correct shim, don't be put off as not difficult as portrayed.
When changing to other scopes, you need another shim as thicknesses of scope vary so you need to decide whether to stick the shim into place.
We fit scopes as close to the barrel as possible, bare in mind space required for mounting ring, fitting to a 56mm you will need to have high mounts.
POI not an issue unless your stretching ranges, having a Trail XP50 thermal scope also, thats what I use when doing vermin control at distance.
Magnification issue is only an issue when changing settings and then you will need that low mag.
The K2 just released now has colour pallets.

Thanks for watching. Yes we try to be honest in our reviews even if that means we don’t sell a lot of that optic. We want people to know what they are getting before they get it and we don’t want any disappointment or surprise if someone buys it. Great comments and info from your experience. Thanks!

    Ughh
It’s tough to be a gangsta AND a thermal salesman. I don’t envy the task when it comes to a product like this. I feel you fellas did a great job being fair to both the product and consumer in this review.
The euros and their clip ons are a special breed that the average blue Jean wearing American just doesn’t understand. with more latitude for equipment choices in the US it’s almost foolish to follow euro trends.
If this optic is your fit though, along with getting the lowest base mag possible a couple things that may want to be considered. First is setting the day optic to the lowest or zero parallax setting on the diopter and shooting with corrected vision if needed. The other is to choose a day optic with an objective diameter as close to the clip on lens size as possible. These help with the poi shift between stand alone day optic and clip/day optic combo and losing the periphery of the screen as optical magnification is increased.

We agree! Great insight. We like to joke everyone wants a clip on until they own a clip on.lol They are the right choice for some but it’s a very small group of hunters for sure.

Clip on you can shot further distance… though these units compared to 10,000 -15000 units just don't allow to optically zoom in .

In many places in Europe, you are limited to how many rifles you own, in America, you can have a night rifle and a day rifle and a dedicated night scope makes more sense.

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow
      @TheLateNightVisionShow  Před rokem

We agree. Clip-ons make sense for hunters in many other counties but in a land of very affordable rifles, a dedicated thermal scope is better for most people. Thanks for watching!

Once this is zeroed to your daytime optic can you adjust the daytime optic elevation and windage to take longer shots?

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow

Clip-on optics are so unpopular that the Pulsar digital clip on is not currently being sold in the US.

A good analogy for scope mag and this unit: say you are standing in front of your tv. The higher the magnification the closer you get to your tv. The closer you get to the tv the less you see of the tv and the blurrier the image

@@TheLateNightVisionShow any reason why there's no review planned for the Super Yoter C? I'm looking for something to shoot out to 600 with (typically we shoot 6-700yd and in with clip on NV) but clip on Thermal is either this, the Super Yoter C, or jump to 13k and get the new ClipIR-LR.

For the money I see no reason to buy a clip on over a dedicated thermal scope. Less image quality and no rifle profiles... What's the point?

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow
      @TheLateNightVisionShow  Před 2 lety +1

We agree and that was kind of our summary.lol There is a tiny percentage of the population it make sense for but the vast majority of people are better off with a dedicated scope. Everyone wants a clip-on until they own a clip-on.😎

Not trying to be snarky guys- BUT you are not professional musicians- SO WHY DO YOU USE A MICROPHONE DESIGNED FOR PROFFESIONAL STUDIO USE- SO FRIGGIN LARGE IT DOMINATES THE SCREEN! Slight overkill guys! I want to see the night vision device- NOT A 16" MICROPHONE SETUP! You just might want to rethink your microphone choices!
