Your video immediately reminded me of a chapter Galen Rowell wrote in his book "Inner game of Outdoor Photography" called The Size of the Rat. The rat in the title is the one that is eating at your stomach to get out there and climb your mountain. Galen was a mountain climber as well as a photographer so he meant it literally. The difference between the guy who climbs mountains and the ones who don't is the willingness to sacrifice financial security. relationships, a permanent home...because he has to do it. All but a few will prefer to stay at home and mow their lawn. I caught myself worrying about my lawn this week and it scared me. My favorite Galen story was when he led a photo tour to Macchu Picchu. He put the group on the train and then took off running the seventeen miles back to town. Galen died in a small plane crash on his way home in Bishop, CA from Alaska in 2002.
Galen, what a legend! Thank you taking the time to refresh our memory. He’s def a hero!
That writing, and your reading, GOLD, better than Gold... and I noted down the name of movie.

Powerful

Loved this. Herzog is one of my heroes too. I love everything that comes out his mouth. Also, I HIGHLY recommend his new book "Every Man For Himself..." I also ESPECIALLY recommend the audiobook, which he narrates. It's one astounding and unbelievable story after another. He's lived like a 1000 lives...
Seriously. Thanks pal.
Booked out of this video to go down the Herzog rabbit hole. Thanks Ben, this is a real gift.
Thanks for watching. Now get some Herzog!
Werner Hezog makes all filmmakers (especially documentary filmmakers) his B$*
He shows what is possible. Thank you.
Love the format. Love the repeat at the end! Cool to know more about this guy, and what inspires you. Look forward to hearing about more of your Heroes!
Thank you Jan
I love your film and your concept and Werner Herzog is one of my „Heroes“ too. I‘m looking forward to more works.
Thanks very much Walter
Thank you for this motivation. 🙏

What an endorsement!

I like the movies he made with the german actor Klaus Kinski such as ”Fitzcarraldo”;”Nosferatu”, ”Aguirre” and so on. He also made a documentary about their love-hate relationstips, called in german ”Mein liebster feind” (My best anemy)
He was something else...
Most epic thing about Werne that during one interview in Los Angeles he was shot to the leg and was very come about it.
Right? So many epic stories. Eating his own shoe... I didn't want to go into it, hoping for people to go discover... Thank you.
Wow Ben, this was truly an amazing video. yes, being an artist is a tough road to follow and we all need to be aware of this. Werner really tells us what we are to face when we live our passion...so thanks for doing HEROS. zen billings
Thank ya Zen
Very cool. Looking forward to watching this later 🎉 well done dude
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Another great video and concept Ben, look forward to more… now I gotta get to work and watch that movie 😃
Thank you sir
Fantastic! So strange as Herzog has been in my physical and mental view constantly over the last few weeks. Thank you for this video!
He gets around. Thanks for watching!
Cool concept. Can’t wait to see who else you focus your attention on. Not sure who I would choose. The term “hero” really thins out the gene pool.
Haha. Oh man the list is SHORT
You are correct in how to pronounce his name. The German’s pronounce a W as a V, and a V as an F.
Thanks Tom
hi Ben, great stuff as ever! Werner in german speaking areas is pronounced "Verner", well done 😊 take care mate
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Great video. You pronounced Werner corrrectly. Quite well to be an American👍
Awesome, thank you!
I suggest you research all about Klaus Kinski, first. Werner Herzog is nothing without that context. And what he is in that context is widely interpreted and debated, but at least I think it fills the picture you’ll develop for yourself.
Kinski was such a disgusting and tragic character. Herzogs more recent comments about him are illuminating. I think Werner would have had success without KK, he was inevitable. But he did have an impact.
Instinct.
YES!!
It’s smell 👃 like Kubrick next 😅
