Or you can build an auto composter to turn the poppies into bonemeal. That's the main reason I love the iron farm. It provides an infinite source of iron and poppies/bonemeal :)

@@Davide_Cracking ya, but why not get some extra free bonemeal? You’re already farming the poppies so I don’t see any reason not to, especially because it would only require a couple extra blocks if you’re already separating them to throw them out like in this video.

@@Davide_Cracking you can do both and even have them funneling into the same chest in the storage system. I just think it's dumb to not use the poppies in some way since you're already farming them and they have multiple uses

For the sorting system you can just use more filler items so that you only need one filter item

I guess he’s just assuming that you’ve got a more powerful bonemeal solution, so you won’t need it. If you are after bonemeal and don’t have a skeleton farm of some sort then you should probably make a moss farm instead.
It would be cool if you could create a trash can that would automatically check if it could be composted, used as furnace fuel, or a brewing resource before throwing it in lava.
This is the video that made me install minecraft, 2 years ago. It gave me that feeling in my tummy, the excitement, and I didn't even know what minecraft was. I was constantly excited to get it, and when I did download it, I was not disappointed. Thank you so much, Shulkercraft.
For the trash can you can make it a trapped chest so items will only flow when you close it so if you put valuable stuff inside it wont get destroyed.
Don't do that in servers tho

thank you for the original content over the past few weeks instead of just posting tutorials of other channel's designs. really appreciate the fact that you guys have taken note of other youtubers' frustration over the matter
for anyone building a sorting sytem in Java. (1.18 for sure) You can place one item in the hopper and the rest in the chest if you have less than 41 of the item. that way the sorting system will still sort through the items you do have and not break upon getting to the "empty" hoppers. by placing at least one it allows the other ones to work.
Your guys's content is amazing. When I think of something like what would a perfect base. Or literally I was thinking about the game really isn't complete until you have obtained every single block in the game and then you made a video. Thanks for making great content!

you can use the following layout in sorting hoppers: 1 sorting target item (diamond, etc) and the remaining 4 slots filled with 11 dirt named any arbitrary name, like "oauausdasda" or "asdasdasd"

Ive only done it 1x to sort cobblestone.
So it never goes into the real sorting machine.

Redstone really has improved since I played it last. Most I used to do was make night sensing doors that could auto lock. Or automate some of my farm.
For the shulker emptying I prefer just to place it on top of a hopper and let it empty that way. Dont have to do a huge redstone contraption for it

1:20 I think you can use 41 filter blocks instead (I play BE and it works there, idk if it works in Java)
Yup! I like having 2 of the filtered item left in the hopper incase something goes wrong and it sucks out an extra item, which would end up leaving the chest with 43 filter items
It also works but won't protect overflow.
Once it overflows, it will lock nearby sorting systems

Thank you this is exactly what I needed
a lil tip to make it safe and easy to gather materials in survival just use slabs insead of full blocks so you can water log them so incase a creeper explodes its actually less work and no need to gather for the blocks to build again but only water log the front side of the chest so the storage system dont break and place a sign to hold the water so it can be very safe as well

1:20 you can just put in 40 more cobblestone in the sorter-hopper. Saves you the hustle mining 40 more diamonds
Tip with building iron farm above the base is cool but since you were able to build the sorting mashine which takes ton of iron for hoppers you probably have one already :D
They are so easy by now that you can build a new one everytime you move your base ^^
Appreciate the time put into it, even if I will not use it.
I use a modpack that includes a storage system (Applied Energistics 2's ME system) so all that space for chests would end up being used for the Autocrafting computer and machinery.

Unfortunately the sorting system cannot work this way.
the level above is ok, but the level below is broken: the torch from the level above is blocking the transport hopper. You can try in the world download and check

yup, just finished building the whole thing in survival before realizing this... will try to fix
edit: i tried to replace bottom level with water stream instead of hopper chain, but items get stuck on hoppers below even with intermittent ice. Sorting system in this video is flawed, would have to completely move bottom level down another level
That was a sick ol set up bro, nice job.
When I make a water elevator I don’t make the one that goes down as if your going down long enough you could drown, so I would recommend you actually just place a water bucket at the Bottom of the elevator, sure it make not look as cool but it is way more practical
To get around the 41 items i figured out a way, 1(of the item you want) 3 blockers(dirt or name dirt) and last one well be 41 of the blocker. If you name dirt than you can still sort dirt. This way you only need 2 of the main items you need in the first slot. Rest well be named dirt (ex. Blocker)
Example:
Sorter=
1x Iron / 1xBlocker / 1xBlocker / 1xBlocker / 41xBlocker
Some fixes is move the 41 to the 2nd slot. It worked either way for me.
just be careful not to do this with items you might gather a lot of because it breaks the overflow protection

IF the last chest starts to fill up, a comperator powers the redstone lamp, and you can make space.

The bottom row of chest has an issue where the blocks that go through stop at the first hopper of the first row of chests once the item has processed

1:19 not necessary of the sorting object, you can stuck that thing up with filters, leaving 1-2 of the sorting object in the slot.
Also avoid overflowing, since this design doesn't have any protection against it

@@proximal13 Firstly yes, in case of a filled hopper compareters don't influence other sorters, that's working just fine, I found other issues...
Basically only top left row of sorters actually work, but:
1. The top right row has filters tripped and missing.
2. Bottom rows pass-trough can't pass items, because the hoppers are locked out by redstone torches from the filters above
3. In case of an overflow of a single cell, or a foreign object getting in, item will come to a *single* wooden chest, which *can't be accessed* without going into the sorter mechanism
