The reason Issei's arm ended up like that in the end is a reference from the previous season--anytime he encounters a power of a higher class than himself, his arm reacts like that without his consent. This time, after experiencing the Juggernaut Drive AND fighting one of the Old Satans imbued with the power of Ophis, the backlash became too much to stay conscious.

Also, Ophis IS that strong.... In fact, Ophis is second only to Great Red out of all the characters introduced so far. No one else (right now) is even close.

@@Issei_Luciferh current ophis is still 2x stronger then the heavenly dragons, not to mention she was unfazed when she was stabbed with cao caos spear when she was at full power. What i am saying is she can only be killed by a very select few humans.

This episode is largely canon. But it's also where the anime made a big plot change. The next season does rectify it. But as I said previously during the loki fight. The dark shadow that influence issei here to be in jaggernaut drive demonstrated is the curse of loki which didn't happen in the source material . But rather it was the side effect of unleashing the dragons max potential, hence forth a curse from God. More changes that doesn't follow the LN will happen from here onwards.
As to why vali had to revert so quickly. It uses up strength very fast in that form. Hence, you gain a lot of power at the expense of exceeding rates of usage and if you lose control, it will also eat into life span as well.
Personally, i preferred this version to the oppai dragon version. But i can also get why others would prefer the canon oppai dragon solution

Incantations have that effect. It’s made to be like that, because you’re used to watching low rank power used without any incantation, so when they suddenly start with the incantations, you know they’re gonna be pulling out the big guns.

Vali's goal in working with Ophis is because he wants to help Ophis return to the Dimensional Gap where she lives and also wants to defeat Great Red.

This is my favorite episode of the show. I'll be honest. I'm one of the few people who ships issei with Asia more than any other girl. To see him rage so much just from the thought of losing her was both heartwarming and heartbreaking

What you're seeing is an imperfect version of the Juggernaut Drive, a forbidden technique that removes the seal on the 2 dragons, granting them power equal to that of God/Satan, the downside of it is that you're lose your sanity.

Its always hard to take this show seriously with the amount of titty flashing during fights, but this ep was pretty cool.
They are not the original demon kings, they are their descendants, that is, their children.
They belong to the ancient faction of demons represented, for example, by Asmodeus and Beelzebub.
Sirzechs belongs to the new faction of current demons represented by him and the other three current demon kings.
Fact: Sirzechs is 10 times more powerful than the original Lucifer.
