Do you have any tips for people looking to start penpalling?
Yes!! I think it's always good to start with someone you know, like an internet friend or a childhood friend you want to get in touch with again. But if you want to meet someone new, that's ok too!! I recommend starting with penpals from the same country. Shipping fees are cheaper and it also takes less time for your letters to reach each other. It's a good way to test out whether you think this would be a good hobby for you or not^^. When choosing people to be penpals, don't be afraid to be a little selective! So much of the snail mail process is the connection you have with the other person, so it is important to chose someone you think you'd vibe with. And lastly, please don't be convinced that penpalling is all about stationery, it's not!! The most important (and the only thing you need, really,) is the letter. Stationery is definitely something you can collect over time if you'd like to, but there's no 'threshold' of the amount of stationery you need in order to start penpalling. When I first started, I just had lined paper and a pen! These are just some things I can say based off of my own experience.

Imagine If you took YEARS OF PRATISE to get good at calligraphy, drawing, etc, and someone like Minty basically say "It's just a talent".

I'm surprised most Asian schools don't allow this. In our school, it's actually encouraged and you get extra points for creativity:')
(For reference the teachers check your notebooks for notes, they'll grade them and add the score to your final grade. So you can't really skip it since it's actually a requirement. We also have an English subj. and our teacher makes us bring two notebooks, an English notebook and an English Journal and some students get REALLY creative with their English journals.)

I'm from the Philippines and came from a public school. Our teachers usually tell us to decorate our big notebooks and portfolios in our own ways to enhance our skills and creativity when it comes to designing/decorating it. That's why I was fascinated when I watched this video. It's beautiful! You gave me an idea on how can I design my big notebook in science rn♡♡♡

I find that being creative/artistic with my notes helps me focus better especially when I am revising back to my notes, it's just refreshing to see that everything is neat and aestheticly pleasing to the eye
You have enough time to be artistic with your notes? The teachers open some stuff and force us to write it down as fast as we can here, I'm still surprised that my handwriting doesn't look like a doctor's yet 💀😭

- the adhesive i used is called 'glue tape' and i bought it from a local dollar store (you can easily find it online!)

Where I’m from the school provides the books and we have to use these bright yellow, blue, green and red books. We can’t even decorate them inside let alone the outside. Oh and we have to wear a uniform (ngl it’s kinda nice tho) and if we don’t want to there’s always the 3 days I’d the year called a ‘non-school uniform day’ where you have to donate to charity if you want to wear your own clothes, otherwise you just have to wear the uniform. I appreciate not having to buy my own books considering where I’m from the financial situation varies sooo much but perhaps they could do a thing where each year they take a survey of who needs books. It would save the school money and allow those who would like to, to purchase their own books.
Same at my school! By any chance, are you from England? I am but i'm going to try bringing in my own (decorated) books to school and tell the teachers i started them in lockdown when i couldn't get the school books. I hope i don't get in trouble tho-

Over here in the Netherlands there is an organization called “leergeld” or learnmoney which “helps” our families in tougher situations with school funds, I get a card with a certain amount of money on it each year to buy my school supplies. For the next school year I’ll be receiving one that’s €60 which while less than previous years (my cousin got one that was €100 when I was in my first year of secondary school, she gave what she had left over to me since we hadn’t signed up to get one that year and without it I might not have had enough notebooks for the year) is definitely more than I need for a single school year, it’s why I’ve been stocking up on stationary and notebooks for college since this will most likely be the last year I’m receiving one (I just turned 17 and it’s up till the child is 18) they can also help with stuff like a laptop or school trips, we had a trip to the Ardennes in the 3rd year of secondary school and they funded it for me since it was like €300 for an entire week and if you didn’t go you had to do make up exercises like spinning classes despite our group not going maintain biking because it was way to hot to even move so we swam in the same river we had canoeing in the day before instead (almost our entire year was there which was 8 classes of ~30 people so they split us up in groups based on in which cabin we slept, we got to choose with who we roomed before we left since our designated busses were also based on that)
Anyways let me get back on track, they should implement something like that! My mom sometimes also gets money to buy my sisters (9 and 2) clothes now, I buy my own since I got a job at 15 altho I still got some clothing money up till like half a year ago when I started a second job which earns me more than my first which I also recently quit because it’s in the early mornings and I’m not a morning person... we have no uniforms either which is a relief because I’m a major hoodie person and I HATE being forced to wear skirts (I’m also trans so plays a role in it) sadly my school is kinda transphobic so they refuse to call me by my chosen name (Luka) and continue to dead name me... cant have everything I guess

guys, if yall are worried about getting those stickers/decors torn or snatched- I can suggest you a pro tip:
use a transparent (book) wrapper to cover those notebooks you've decorated (I prefer the textured ones over flimsy, light ones (reason- the flimsy one gets torn easily))
