Attempting to Replace Struts on My Honda. I'm NOT a Mechanic.

- My 2004 Honda Civic failed inspection! Whomp whomp. It needs new struts and tires. I don't work on cars, but I'm going to give it my best effort to replace the struts myself.

Every persons foray into being a DIY driveway mechanic starts off exactly the way this went, I give you total respect to following thru🎉
agree, this is awsome, more women should be like her...
..men arent born with mechanical skills either 👍👍
There's a mechanic where I live, she knew ZERO about cars but her Van was leaking transmission fluid, badly! Every shop she went to quoted her $350 to $480 to replace the gasket, fluid, and screen. She couldn't afford that. So she watched several CZcams videos and did it herself. She started fixing other things on her van after that. She eventually went to trade school, became an Aviation Mechanic, invented, and then patented several hydraulic hoses. This was on one of the local news channels here last year. What made her story even more amazing is that she was on welfare, living in public housing, and found something that she loved to do.
I saw that story, and I believe, she even had a kid after. Great story
@@quilmesdave Yep, she became an aviation mechanic and went on to invent several aviation and high pressure hydraulic hoses.
Her story isn't exactly rags to riches, it's rags to where she never has to worry about money again in her life.
That is so awesome good on her a woman of true substance and grit and she's got a passion for it her calling so to speak brilliant
@@davidrhodes7655 I can't remember the name of it but she's part of a documentary.
Turned out that she just needed a little motivation to put all that idling brain power RPM to work.
CZcams could very well be one of the most valuable resources on the internet when it comes to learning how to do something. The sharing of experience and knowledge makes it possible for anyone to learn whatever challenge they have chosen accept.
Loved it. Not edited stuff, fails and successes, joy and frustration - that's how it works. Great job Jen, keep pushing. PS. I'm so freaking jealous of Chris's garage and all the tool he's got.
Yup Chris is 100% right. I always leave the Jack as a secondary backup. You got this job girl!! 👍
Even put the tire under. 👍 Anything to keep it from falling on ya.
I'm not gonna lie Jen... that was painful to watch. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 After forty years wrenching, best video I've seen in a while! My back hurts from just watching!🤣🤣🤣 You did it!! Mostly yourself... be proud. Nicely executed. Chris, you've got a real keeper there!!
Yes , great job and Chis is very lucky to have you especially for being able to do all that work on your own.
The zippidy do Dah thing, was too funny. How'd I know she was talking about an impact of some sort
I kept a big chunk of carpeting for ground work like your doing .. or a few sheets of cardboard..
Great work Jen, like how you didn’t edit out the failure/frustration bits…we’ve all been there and learned. You’ll do much better in the future and these skills are valuable/transferable. Best of luck. 👍🇺🇦👍🇺🇦
Calm down
I admire your enthusiasm, great job Jen.
We all have difficulty in learning new things at first but it always gets easier the more time you spend using tools and it gives you lots of personal satisfaction, knowing that "you did it".
Well done Jen, top job...
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video, as a mechanic I couldn't help but laugh all the way through the first strut you did, but you took what you learned and improved it on the 2nd. Nothing more satisfying than after the test drive and everything is good and standing back knowing you did it. Love the "I'm not giving up" attitude, every mechanic needs it.
Well Jen, for a novice you did a brilliant job
Like Chris said, it's not a crime to ask for help
You should be proud of what you did 👌
Thanks, Phil. I certainly see working on cars differently now. Not easy work.
@@jennifersugint you are not wrong Jen, just don't use planks of wood to try to get leverage on a breaker bar like that 🤣🤣🤣
Great video. I was blessed with a patient father who taught me about many of the challenges you faced… many years ago and way before YT. Like your other videos, you should be incredibly proud of your self-taught successes. And to echo Phil’s point (not that it needs it), never be too proud to ask for help.
@@itsmephil2255 Why not use a plank? Chris did the same in another vid - and so have most of us! Ya do what works.
You aren't a Dummy to ask for information, or help, you are only a Dummy if you don't take advantage of asking for information or use the help, 😂 if you get a peice of pipe(cheater bar) and put over the end of the wrench it will help with leverage, great job, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Awesome, Jen. Every teenage girl should be required to watch your videos, so that they can be motivated by your work ethic and determination to stick with a job until it’s complete. In truth, you are an inspiration to both men and women for your willingness to embark on projects that the majority of the population would never attempt. Great job!
Hi great job I don't many men that would of did that job you are awesome
Wow, thank you, Ben!
@@joeq8157 True dat!
Absolutely agree.
Fune note. When I was very young, My dad pulled over on a very busy I-75 and had me change the right rear tire. After checking, I told him it wasnt flat. He said he didnt ask if it was flat or not and to change it. When I mentioned he could have done this 'lesson' somewhere safer, he said flat tires don't care where you are, so I learned. NOW, when my little sister came around, he purchased triple AAA for her so she would ne safe....lol So I find it just cool Je does this and inspires others as well.
that's some nice genuine person energy. someone being humble but enthusiastic to attempt something they have never done and appreciating the journey. well done!
I LOVE when someone realizes they can do anything they set their mind to. If you want to be happy push yourself beyond the limitations others put on you or you put on yourself. Great Job.
Fear is good. It makes you respect the dangers and question yourself if you are doing things properly. Great to see Chris is there to help you out and guide you along your adventure
He’s a good teacher. Glad he was there to check on things so I didn’t get hurt. Thanks for watching
Kudos to you for even trying this project, and kudos to Chris for leaving to do it.

Wow, you are toooo beautiful!!
whomever see you should believe that God is surely true
and whenever I see you I'm always in a dream
and when we wake up, we all will realize that this whole life was nothing but a dream and that only God is whats true and real.
I don't know how atheists can believe that a very sexy very attractive beauty queen like you came from monkeys hahaha
😄
There was a teacher who did not believe in the existence of God, he said to his students, do you see God?
the students answered no we don't see God, so the teacher said if you don't see God it means there is no God.
then a smart student stood up and said to the other students hey guys can you see the teachers brain?
then the student answered no we don't see the teachers brain, the student then said the teacher is crazy he has no brain
:0)
God started everything, and God also repeats things, and it is clear.
God is one, one God for all of us,
The universe didnt always exist science said it was not always existing, so it was created, they say it was through the big bang, and we say even that was created and initiated by God, whatever got a beginning meaning whatever was proven to not have always existed but then existed must have a creator, but whatever was not proven to have not existed before and had no beginning point has no creator, God had no beginning so has no creator, but because the universe had a beginning point it means the universe was created it means there must be a God, also the universe shows unity and diversity, there are different things, different creatures and different materials, but they are all made of particles and atoms.
God started everything, and he repeat things, and it is clear.
This life is temporary, the other is forever, either in heaven or in hell fire!
Therefore, let us all try to be good and not bad humans in life, and be kind and follow the words of God and the good teachings of his great messenger to mankind, the prophet Mohammed and his supporter imam Ali and his good pious kind descendants whom are an extension of God's messenger and his light.
Shine and spread the light sunshine,.
😘
Quick tip. Next time you don't have enough leverage on a wrench or ratchet just slip a long metal pipe over the handle and you'll be golden. Just be careful because if the bolt is rusty or corroded this will make it much easier to snap off. Great job. Learning skills like this will always come in handy 🤙
Use that lube stuff too I forgot the name p. Works GREAT!!

Your persistence and determination was outstanding. Well done young lady.
Girl, I insist on working on my own truck too. It can be a slow and painful process, but feels so good when you've accomplished it! Wished I could have been there to tag team and offer moral support. You did an amazing job.
Thanks, Samantha! I agree it feels great to do it yourself. So awesome to hear you work on your own truck. Thanks for the comment!
Just fixed a problem on my Chevy impala myself and saved myself $250 AFTER paying for the parts and tools to fix it. My impala was throwing codes that there was something wrong with the throttle body and a shop wanted $500 to fix it. Well fuck that I said and I did it myself. I bought a new throttle body from Rockauto and threw it in myself in under an hour.
Glad to see a lady step outside of her comfort zone in an abnormal way. Very admirable of you to challenge yourself and save money at the same time. As a guy who's done mechanics since I was 14 you did a great job and you did it smartly by making sure someone knowledge-able was around to critic what you do and keep you safe. Prop's Jen!
Hell yeah! You got it done and you did the majority of the work on your own Jen. Hats off to you for doing so and for doing it under those conditions. On the ground in the dirt, it was in the middle of the night , very cold outside and mostly with basic hand tools! Great job Jen , thumbs UP to you! 👍💯
Appreciate it, Richard! It was certainly a challenge 😂
I've been teaching my 15-year-old daughter how to fix cars. She was shown air tools and impact wrenches right away... Yes, it's important to be safe and "keep your face away from the tool" lol. That wobbly bit could hurt you. Mechanics gloves to protect the phalanges, safety glasses, and sometimes a face shield are appropriate. Have fun and keep wrenching! 🔧🔧🔧
Impressive and inspiring! Not only did you choose to do something you've never done before, but your determination to finish even after some frustrating moments. Additionally, you kept at it into the morning hours...and throughout extremely cold temps.
Nice to have Chris and Gus around for support.
When she was trying to get that bolt through the bottom of the strut, that was always the point of the job where my dad would be like "Come here and stand on this while I put the bolt through" lol. That's not an easy thing to do by yourself! Amazing job Jennifer. My buddy who has never worked on cars before couldn't even get his wheels off. 🤣
Hahah I should have asked for help with that part. It would have been done a lot quicker
@@jennifersugintThe way you managed to get it done though was impressive and quite entertaining haha, it also shows people that you can manage to do it yourself if you have to! Good job!!
Oh yeah. That bottom bolt would be when I beg my partner to come stand on my pry bar.
I love you guys: your relationship; your channels; your dedication to trying new things. Don't call yourself a dummy. Everyone is ignorant of something because no one knows everything. You are both an inspiration.
Thank you, Michael. Always down to learn new things.
@@jennifersugint I hope we see a wedding one of these days. How come Chris doesn't respond to comments as you do? You have been an integral part of the whole operation and you are multi-talented and you sing beautifully.
I appreciate that! I really do love to sing ❤. And to answer your question, Chris really does his best to respond to as many comments, messages and emails as he can. I know he reads every comment and appreciates everyone who subscribes. He’s just usually neck deep in mud under a car for 12 hours of the day and the remaining hours he gives to me lol.
@@jennifersugint I figured he read them and I know how demanding making and editing content can be. I'm watching 1954 Savoy Carb Work video where you combined it with the Snowmobile video and with the big dogs and the Gusman is a character all to himself.
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride. This was a well done video. I hope it motivates you to keep learning more
Your innovation to make things work is to be admired. Also, I am glad you finally picked up the impact
Hi Jen, please make more videos. I love how you don't have the knowledge or training but your determination is awesome. Your videos are fun to watch because you learn as you go. They are entertaining. Keep up the amazing job you're doing. Never hesitate to ask for help. It makes things easier and it's always good to gain knowledge. Thank you again for not making boring humdrum videos.

Your Super fun to watch! I love you're independence and willingness to take on projects yourself and figure it out on your own. You always seem optimistic and smiling. Keep the videos coming.
We all had to go through what you did here in the beginning of this type of work... Great job and kudos for sticking to it.
I absolutely admire your persistence !
As a teen grease monkey we did everything ourselves, no experience,in all kinds of weather right on the street including changing engines. You brought back memories.
Did most repairs myself all these years but nearing 65 years old this disabled veteran doesn't do that much - bones man, my bones.
Your work today saved you at least $300 !
You really delivered ma'am.
Grandfather John Pennsylvania
Glad it brought back some memories for you!
Remember that most of us learned by either watching someone do it, or having someone watch us and guide us. Doing it cold like you did is probably the hardest. Most of what you did could have been done much easier with the right tools, and you had the right tools, but didn't know. When I was a kid, I held the flashlight for my dad, and then he would let me do small things. When I went to college, I lived close to my grandpa. I would take my girlfriend's car to his house and he would hand me tools and tell me how to do it, but I did all the work. What I am saying is that it is okay to ask for pointers from a mentor. You will learn faster and safer and will enjoy it more.
Love how you just want to keep going, patience of a saint too. Great job.
Prettiest mechanic I've ever seen. U have great pioneer spirit. The first time is all ways the hardest.
Ur strong legs helped a lot.
cute dog and cat. Good job! Eric in mo.
I so wanted to just jump in the screen and help. But I have to give you props for not giving up. I taught my daughter mechanics and now she can do whatever needs done. You go girl.
Exactly Correct✅ Do Not Allow Men to keep you from Growing as a person and any technical Prowess shall take you further and further towards the best end results which should be Saving ur Loot $ and Gaining Wisdom!! Love And Light To All My Brothers and Sisters watching YouBUBE
@@marsdenbalaska3 How or why would men keep her from it? People go through all sorts of mental gymnastics to make men the villain when all she had to do was choose to do it herself. My daughter can do much of her own repairs too and she didn't have to battle or out maneuver any man to learn. It has to do with learning to be self reliant which is a good lesson no matter your gender.
Your willingness to stick with it is beyond impressive, especially with Chris right inside and knowing how good of a mechanic he is. Not to mention you seem to maintain a great attitude even while having a hard time with various portions of the job.
I admire your fortitude and do-it-yourself attitude. I always use clear safety glasses and neoprene palmed gloves. It saves my eyes from the dirt and my hands from the wear and tear.
Respect.
I love your can do attitude, we’re all so proud of you.❤
You never fail to put a smile on my face Jen.
The funniest thing i have watched this month.
Thanks for the laugh.
So glad!
Your doing great Jen, don’t be so hard on yourself, especially if your a first timer doing the job at hand. Only thing that would help a lot next time is just knowing what tool to use for the job. All part of learning, keep ‘em coming!
Jen thank you for deciding to work on your own car. You are a inspiration.ive been a practicing machanic since the age of 13. So now its 27 years experience.
Jen, you sure have grit and determination for staying outside in the cold air and changing the struts. You have a wonderful happy personality and it shows in your smiles even though you were just about frozen. This video was fun because you inserted fun movie clips and sang a little bit. Blessings to you and Chris.
I for one am so glad chris talked you into doing videos, you are not only tenacious with your determination to get things done but most importantly you are an entertainer that keeps things interesting & keeps us glued to the screen
well done Jen!

Props to you on going for it yourself! I love the fact you're doing all these projects on your own, for yourself. I want my daughter to see these videos.
The best DIY I have seen to date :). I so admire your perseverance. Kudos to you!
You two are hilarious,I love watching all the stuff you tackle
Totally respect the determination! And love the humor, and humor in videos is a big plus for me, keep me looking forward to the next videos.
It took a while, but you got it done! Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment on a project. Good job Jen!
Jen, you are one courageous woman!!!! It's so great to see someone, who really doesn't need to tackle a job like that, muscle your way through it, and not quit! Congrats on a job well done. YT is great for finding videos on just about anything you need to do, but once you get into it, you find bolts, nuts, screws, that are so tight, and spaces that are almost impossible to get into! But, when you finish the job, no matter how difficult, or time consuming, it really makes you feel that sense of accomplishment!!!!!! Be Safe, and God Bless!
Awesome job Jennifer I love your determination to get the job done by yourself
As someone who has done all his own car maintenance since I was 17, I'd have to say that it's painful to watch you fumble through this Jen :) But, in the same sense, it's really cool to watch a woman doing car work for herself! Serious respect! If a zombie apocalypse ever happens, those are definitely some good skills for you to know :)
Luv to watch her strut
It was hard to watch her not using the impact gun
Zombie apocalypse? Given additional lessons from Archimedes, Jen will be ready for Mad Max;) My first encounter with an impact wrench was after unsuccessfully attempting to remove the fastener holding the flywheel of a 1979 Mazda RX7 with a breaker bar in the 80s, an approach that was never going to work.
Reality check bro, everyone has to start at some point. You started at 17 and were probably the same way. Looking for tools having to go buy tools. You got hurt and everything. Don't be a dick bro.
Jenn. You are awesome. I’m proud of you that you did that repair. You put me in a good mood Chris is such a lucky man
My favorite video. My God you wouldn't quit! All frackin night long! Inspirational
Girl Boss Get It! Love your determination and no give up attitude. very inspiring.
I'm showing this to my daughters who actually have to do much of their basic maintenance on their cars too. So glad Chris had you use all of the extra safety persuasions because you were testing all of them with some of those positions. Lol Great Job very funny!
it does help a lot to know what tools to use for what application that is involved... all-in-all I think you persevered and overcame any obstacle you had ..good job Jen
Thank you, Pickles.
Definitely got heaps of determination, well done. much love from the UK.
I try to teach and let my daughter do as much as possible with her car. We all started somewhere you have the right state of mind. Never feel bad about asking for help that was a dangerous job to start with. You did great when it is all said and done if it works it works. Keep going working on your own car is very rewarding my daughter is so proud when she does it.
One tip Jen, and I'm sure Chris would agree... Always tackle the hardest bolt or nut first... I've been a master mechanic for over 30 years and I still learn new stuff every day! Keep inspiring people, you're doing a great job!
Agree she should have taken the bottom bolt off first then the one in the trunk
Very well done Jen! There’s no more to say. Your perseverance and humor is just great.
Very sweet that you are so eager and willing to learn. If you don't have air or an electric impact wrench, learning to use leverage is a huge advantage. A pipe over the end of the wrench can make anyone superman. Good job.
You're a hero to complete such a project!
Jen, I love your determination. and can-do attitude. Every video I have watched of you which is all of them you have worked hard, thought everything through to the best of your ability and persevered. Like Chris has said though it isn't a failure to ask for help. For such a tiny woman you pack a pretty big punch. Another awesome video with lots of humor. Awesome job.
Jen your powers of perseverance and deduction are bloody awesome. Everyone is looking out for you . Thanks for the honesty and non homogeneous presentations showing everyone that anyone can do anything. I always tell apprentices there are no stupid questions only stupid answers. Fun and entertaining to watch. Also very relatable, having been in many of the same positions and struggles. You did good. Can't wait to see more.
I know this is an old video but I am so proud of you Jen, you absolutely did an awesome job.
at one point we have all been right there where you were and sticking with the job not giving up till its done is very commendable , i sat glued to the screen watching your struggle with a job you had never done before and became a subscriber i cant remember enjoying a video more, good job. looking forward to more of your channel
Even if it was a struggle, you've proven you're more capable than most people! Great job!
I love that you showed all the little side quests, frustrations with finding the right tools, and the struggle when something is stuck on too tight (along with all the....creative ways you tried getting it loose, lol)! This video was so relatable!
21:44 That moment made me actually tear up, like you said before its the little things. To actually be appreciated doing something that is normally thankless ESPECIALLY after knowing that you just experienced seeing how hard and draining this type of work can be. So now he knows that you actually mean it because you have seen how overwhelming it can be when you don't know what you are doing at first. I guarantee you that he didn't want to smile but he could not help it because you made him feel good with that one small comment. That was an awesome moment.
Great job, Jen. There's no shame in asking Chris for a little help to choose better tools that make things easier and some helpful tips also. God bless you and keep up the great work.
You did great Jen , you understood what you were supposed to do and not knowing where all the tools are does make the job longer and like Chris said it’s ok to ask for help to save time…great video!
Good thing you had someone there to help. Old timers have helped me a few times. Keep those wrenches turning.
I enjoy your videos, Jenn. And I really like it when you sing. You have a great voice!
By far this was the most enjoyable video I’ve seen all week. This beautiful lovely determined young woman is a joy. Gus cracks me up. Chris do what you can to keep her safe and happy! She’s a treasure! ❤

#4 The right tool for the job makes ALL the difference
Thanks for such a fun video!
Thank you for the great video. You did an awesome job. Its cool for people to see how hard our jobs can be on a normal basis as a mechanic.
Nice work! I think it's interesting to see what a novice vs a more experienced fixer will think/do/film when faced with different problems.
I love how you try and learn new things and don’t give up. Very cool. You’re becoming an inspiration for others. ❤
All those things get easier with a little experience.
The first bigger things did on my car by myself took way longer than I expected. Look in the book, watch on CZcams, being scared to damage something. A supposed two or three hour job turned into a whole weekend. At least you still had cars to go places.😅
I know the feeling when you took half your car apart, put it back together and hope it still works and doesn’t come apart in the middle of nowhere during the first few drives after a serious repair.
Having to lie on the ground and crawl under a car in the weirdest positions makes you cold and sore. No good way to get leverage and there’s s always dirt.
You're a hard determined worker. great job!
I like your attitude of determination
Jen, even before seeing the whole video, I was impressed by your decision to do the work yourself (with backup available, smart). Now you have more knowledge and confidence that comes with the process of doing your own work, and you're less likely to be deceived by an unscrupulous mechanic who thinks you're an easy target. Thanks for doing this, and thanks for encouraging others to do the same. I started repairing lawnmowers when I was in high school, and have done most of my own mechanic work for the past 50 years. BTW, I have five sons and one daughter, all adults now. Guess which one was most likely to help me work on his/her car. The boys apparently thought they already knew everything they needed/wanted to know, but their sister was wise enough to know better.
Great work Jen. Liked how you didn’t edit out the failures/frustration etc. We’ve all experienced what you went through and it’s a learning experience…you’ll get better and the skills you learn are transferable to all aspects of life. All the best. 👍🇺🇦👍🇺🇦
When she lays there and drops the wrench, pondering her existence...I felt that. I felt that deep inside, I could relate so much lmaooo
Chris is so lucky to have you. You are truly inspirational and pretty too! Loved the video. Editing was great.
OMG this was great! Gotta love your approach -- its killer that you didnt give up gettir done!
This is my first of your videos, and I must say I have Enormous Respect for a lady who can put her mind and body into a task like this, no matter the time or temp or muscle fatigue.
Who needs perfect hair or nails when you can be a Super Gal like Jen?? Abilities like this count for So Much More!!
Thank you, Rick!
Way to go! I am super proud of you! 😎 29:10 Previously when I didn’t have access to a impact gun or a breaker bar I would take the end of the jack handle & slide it over the ratchet. This increases your leverage & it will break free with ease. I see you got it worked out. My mechanic buddy gave me that tip.
Very proud to see amazing people that live on our planet figuring things out and not having everything done for them. Bravo!

Turning wrenches can be hard enough....but add to it that you are trying to film everything is super difficult. People just don't know how hard it is!! Great job Jen!!!
this repair video is proof positive that determination plus fun helps gets any job done!!!
This has got to be the most hard earned subscription! Great job 🎉
That was impressive. What a positive attitude and spirit. If I may, it’s all about leverage young lady. If you take a pipe and place it on the ratchet end of its handle, it gives you more torque to remove the bolt/nut. You did good!!!
It can be a very daunting task to work on your car by yourself but you did a fantastic job! It was a great watch! I just swapped out all 4 struts on my 98 Camry last summer, I bet that Honda suspension feels great now! You've earned a like and a sub from me! Keep up the great work!
Fair play for seeing it through. You show the very clearly the stages of grief when working on cars lol. I don't like doing any work with suspension or anything that has a big spring under tension, always risky. It's also crazy to me that early 2000's is deemed as old now 😅
