Making a Regency Shift for the Bridgerton Ball + Using my Bullet Journal to Plan Sewing Projects

  • I'm going to the Bridgerton Ball next month and I thought it'd be fun to make myself an over the top Regency gown, but first I need a cute Regency shift! I used Mariah Pattie's "Formulas to Draft a Shift Pattern" video to come up with the pattern and referenced an extant shift from the Metropolitan Museum. I've also included a short overview of how I use my bullet journal when I'm planning for a project! It's not the most comprehensive so if you'd like to see a more in depth view into my bullet journal let me know.

    The bullet journal was fascinating. I do sketches of my ideas but never so much condensed visuals. It's an interesting method

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  Před 2 lety +8

      i do sketches for more of my fantasy heavy designs! but with things that already have a visual that exists its faster if i just print and glue 😅

    The bujo is so cute, it's really inspiring thank you for sharing. The shift turned out perfect it looks comfy and elegant. I have no idea how you find the spoons to do all that work on every single project I could never but you make me want to try. Also baby bat was so cooperative this video very cute 10/10 would pet

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  Před 2 lety +5

      aw thank you! it.. is a struggle actually 😅 i sew fairly quickly thankfully so i was able to get the base shift done in an afternoon, so the bulk of the work was actually the embroidery! i've also figured out that batching projects really helps me rather than focusing on one whole project at a time, so like i did like 6 fittings in one day and thats all i did for that day haha. she was very cooperative this video! she's been very cuddly lately (or as cuddly as a non cuddly cat will get lol)

  • @stevezytveld6585
    @stevezytveld6585 Před 2 lety +2

    I agree with your bullet journal practice. I've been keeping a series of sketchbooks while teaching myself how to sew over the past Covid time. Divided by project, written out instructions (in case the YT videos disappear), sketches of particularly weird steps, measurements, fabric choice. The only difference is the complete lack of washi tape and a page in the front reserved for a section index (because I was born in the analogue age everything reduces down to how books are formally organized).
    The shift is really lovely. Your smile says it all. The embroidery is perfect.

      hi sorry for the late response! how are you? I feel like I haven't seen your name around much lately! Ooh thats a good idea to plan for the disappearance of youtube, gotta admit I have not planned that far in advance 😅 i like the idea of an index, that sounds like a really nice way to organize! i also don't think far ahead enough for that, I usually just use a lot of tabs in different colors so I can figure out where everything is haha. Hope you're doing well!

      @@moth.faerie Hey you! Don't worry about your response time. We chat, all is good, yes.
      Yeah, I haven't been feeling the social butterfly lately in the virtual. Mostly been catching up on sleep and general rest. Which means I have a bit of a back catalogue to view... (laughing). Other than that we're doing good.
      Lord, I hope YT doesn't disappear... I was more thinking of individual videos I can't find again because of whatever... I take the notes from the how-to's because it helps me learn (I come from the Age of Analogue, my process seems to require lots of trees). Bonus points for taking notes is making me look like I know something when I'm starting one of the Godkids on making their first projects (memory of a sieve).
      Yeah... organization. I don't actually plan my sketchbooks or projects. I just leave a blank page in the front and write page numbers with the project title. Looks like organization, but it's kind of not. If I'm working on something that's more long-term I'll leave a few pages at the end of the 'section' to write progress notes or whatever.
      I've been working on the overly complicated tool rolls for the leather tools I've found on ebay. Because sewing has taught me that the old tools are, generally, better quality than todays stuff... aaand ebay hunting is fun (the tool rolls also mean there's a cap on how much 'stuff' I can bring home).
      The one for the carving tools has slots for each category of tool and space for the swivel knife & stylist. The outside is a 7x10" space with Sheridan-type of flowers & a sunflower painted with ink blue & yellow with a reflective orange background for Ukraine. All the individual pieces are done, just left with glue-up and sewing.

    OOO I love the idea of showing your shopping friends a visual to help you shop! Thats so smart! I'm going to do this the next time I go shopping for fabrics!!! So excited! I love Mariah! Is it just me or do other people feel like sports bras came from regency short stays?.....I'm a visual person to and I loved the bullet journal! I love the sound of your table when you mark on it, it's really satisfying. Would you ever consider making a video about embroidery? Or embroidery trials?
