The "how" is easy: RECORD. SETTING. INJURIES. Literally setting records for games missed due to injury (over 550, vs 85 games missed total for OKC), number of different lineups in used (at over 50), and number of players who have played minutes (33).
The Grizzlies have become "pretenders" this season because they had record setting injuries and fielded a G League team for most of the year.
