  • Hey everyone! Ages ago, I talked about my favorite episodes of the classic Twilight Zone. Now it's time for the 1980s revival to get the same treatment! But IMPORTANT NOTE: this is a series that lived for TWIST ENDINGS. While I tried my best to keep this countdown spoiler free, nonetheless, if you haven’t seen much of the Twilight Zone, and you don’t want to be spoiled in any way, proceed watching this at your own risk.

Glad to find your channel! I recently finished watching the 80s series after recently watching the 60s series for the first time. Overall, I don't think this series is all that good or similar to Twilight Zone, but there are a good number of episodes I like. My top 10 counting up to my number 1 are:
    10) Grace Note
    9) The Cold Equations
    8) The Storyteller
    7) Wordplay
    6) Examination Day
    5) Little Boy Lost
    4) Her Pilgrim Soul
    3) Shadow Play
    2) A Message from Charity
    1) The Call

Nice list! And yeah, while nothing will probably ever compare to the OG series, this one isn't half bad. If you enjoy Rod Serling's work and narration, "Night Gallery" is another good show to check out.

    Excellent choices.
I think my two favorite episodes from the 80’s revival are Dead Run and The Devil’s Alphabet.
Dead Run follows a truck driver who is blackballed from the job after several accidents. Desperate for help, he takes a job from his father’s friend. The job? Carrying souls to Hell. The episode talks about rigidity, damnation, morality and redemption. It’s tragic and horrifying…but also hopeful and a reminder that second chances are available to those who deserve them.
The Devil’s Alphabet (based on a story by a contemporary of MR James, aka the father of the modern day ghost story) is about the members of a college fraternity who decide to meet every year even after death. When one of their members commits suicide, the survivors learn to their horror that their oaths are binding. This is more a classic ghost story with a dash of cautionary tale and is both scary and heartbreaking at the same time.

"Dead Run" is also fun to watch because two "Star Trek: Next Generation" actors show up in it---John DeLancie and Brent Spiner.

I have not seen the whole show but from what I have seen my favorites are Time And Theresa Golowitz, The Hellgrammite Method, Extra Inning, The Mind of Simon Foster, The Card ( I love the cruelty of the ending ), What Are Friends For, 20/20 Vision, The Shadow Man, The Road Less Traveled, and the best being the 2-part A Message From Charity. Honourable mentions go out to The Junction ( it could have been longer ), Something In The Walls ( a good horror story ), The Chameleon, Grace Note, and The Toys Of Caliban ( it seemed like a remake of It's A Good Life). From Texas 4.58 PM Central Time 11/9/22.

Just finished this over 100 episodes from this show and watched the reboot of the outer limits but the original twilight zone will always be superior. I’m also a fan of the night vision and they took an episode from this 1985 twilight zone but made it much better. Night vision is criminally underrated.

I haven't seen many episodes from the 1985 series. Nightcrawlers is one of them, but now I think I'm going to have to seek out Paladin of the Lost Hour! I didn't know the backstory of Many, Many Monkeys either, that one I definitely need to give a watch.
And yeah, Dealer's Choice is too good to overlook.

Yeah, this series is deserving of a bit more recognition. I could only count just a few truly bad ones; the rest range from "well that was weird", to okay, to great, with this list being the gems IMO. Most, if not all, the episodes are here on CZcams for free!

@@ToonGal12 so since then i gave a few a watch during spare times. Originally the two where "I of newton" and "dealers choice". Got to love some young morgan freeman right, and I of newton comes off fresh on a rewatch sooner than other episodes in my eyes. But i watched a few and i Do agree i was overlooking "a little piece of quiet" because when i was young i had that stern stubbornness to think "It's not original it's stealing ideas" rather than now i think "it was a formative piece of work and the writers took inspiration" that and i feel for that mom a lot more now.

I grew up with this show, and recently bought the DVD set, It's amazing how many episodes I forgot about! I agree with most of your choices, but would add "Shadow Man", which gave me nightmares when I was 5! One interesting aspect of the show is how many Star Trek actors appear on the show before being cast in Trek. Andrew Robinson, Robert Duncan McNeill, Terry Farell, Ethan Philips, John DeLancie, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, and a bunch more I forgot to mention. Was there some connection between this show and Star Trek? I don't know!

‘A Little Peace and Quiet’ HORRIFIED me the first time i saw it! No, i wasn’t there when it premiered, i wasn’t even born until November ‘91, and it wasn’t until maybe 2011 when i saw it as a rerun early one morning (tbh, i had no clue the show was rebooted in the 80s until that fateful morning lol). 90% of the episode is actually kinda comical and fun…until it suddenly ISN’T. 😳 This one is TOTALY a product of the cold war era, and no matter when you watch it it brings you right back there. This one actually gave me nightmares.

I know, and the tragedy is that it's not the lady's fault. It's similar to the ending of the classic series episode, "Time Enough at Last". Both characters are likeable and/or sympathetic and they both meet a dark end, which goes to show that life isn't fair.
