    Have you ever tried Super Glue Gel to fill in a chip or scratch before applying the color?

    • @BicycleRestorationMan
      @BicycleRestorationMan  Před 2 lety

      No, never thought to do that. Have you tried that? Seems that you would have to sand the glue level like the paint.

    • @rechuckg
      @rechuckg Před 2 lety +2

      @@BicycleRestorationMan It levels well but you will need to sand it. The cool thing is that you can get it to cure in about 15 seconds if you mist it with a bit of acetone. I use to teach the method for minor damage auto repair.

      @@rechuckg Doesn’t the acetone take off the surrounding paint?

    • @rechuckg
      @rechuckg Před 2 lety

      @@BicycleRestorationMan It would normally only soften lacquer. I can't imagine any bike made in the last 50+ years that would have lacquer on it. Acetone is also a very fast evaporating solvent and wouldnt sit long enough to dissolve the paint.

    Would this technique works on carbon frame bikes? I have a small dent on my frame from my bike rack.

    • @BicycleRestorationMan
      @BicycleRestorationMan  Před 2 lety +2

      No, not at all! Dents in carbon frames even small ones are reason for concern. The dent or crack could be more severe inside the tubing. There maybe more companies out there but, Calfee use to be the go-to place to have carbon frames repaired. I would be very careful riding your bike until it’s checked out.

    Can I know what kind of paint did you use on top of the powder coat? Lacquer, enamel or urethane?

    • @BicycleRestorationMan
      @BicycleRestorationMan  Před 2 lety +2

      I used the same paint the bike was painted with, I believe it was a lacquer. The bike was not powder coated.

      @@BicycleRestorationMan last question, you don’t have to use top/clear coat?

    • @BicycleRestorationMan
      @BicycleRestorationMan  Před 2 lety +1

      I used a two part clear lacquer.

    • @BicycleRestorationMan
      @BicycleRestorationMan  Před 2 lety +2

      Oh, sorry, on the touch up I did not use any clear coat. Just on the original paint job.

      @@BicycleRestorationMan thanks for clarifying. You think using lacquer touch up paint on top of powder coat is ok? Im thinking that powder coats tend to be less glossy than lacquer paints.
