    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před rokem +3

      Hi Leslie! Sorry, not all places close in October. I was just referring to a day gone by long ago before Santa Teresa was what it is now when it was just a small town and things would close in as locals would enjoy the time off. But Quepos won’t close, no worries! And honestly I can’t predict the weather whatsoever however my point in making the video was just to say that rainy season really isn’t that bad. It’s warm! It does rain more often but my point was that it’s not like monsoons usually it’s just a shower here and there. it’s perfectly nice to go out and do stuff still in fact it’s a lot easier to go on a hike if it’s a little cloudy and might just sprinkle than it is when it’s super hot. In my opinion anyway! Hope you guys have a great trip not to worry!

      @@mr.hester5671 we went 10/9 to 10/13. It was beautiful every morning and afternoon. Occasional sprinkles in the afternoon. By the late night it was torrential downpours, but at that point we were in and it was relaxing to hear at bedtime. My suggestion is to do the bulk of your activities in the mornings and afternoon. Compared to our first trip to Guanacaste, I definitely enjoyed Quepos more...but it was wetter overall. The trip from the airport was a little longer than expected, because there's no direct way to Quepos from San Jose Airport (3 hour drive). We also didn't exchange for colones, it isn't necessary. I hope you have an amazing time!

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před rokem +3

      I think the main thing to remember is that it is not torrential rains all day, every day unless there is a MAJOR weather event. The other key thing is that the rainy season is a lot more "pleasant" to do certain outdoor activities because it's not so hot! Toss a very light-weight rain pancho into your day bag and go do everything you want. The rain when it does come is warm and if it really comes down pop into the nearest "soda" (restaurant), bar or bus stop and it's a fun chance to quickly meet people! Then the rain will stop and you'll be on your way again. Hope that helps 🤗

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hi Kevin, I have to preface this with the fact that the yearly weather patterns that used to be pretty "regular" are changing quite a lot! But in the 15 years I've lived in Costa RIca, May in the Guanacaste and Nicoya Peninsula area is sunny and hot with only a first few showers, like 3 total, of the approaching rainy season, usually coming as a quick, heavy downpour in the afternoon or middle of the night. It's a lovely event that usually meets with cheers and celebration and people running into the streets and comes as a huge relief from the heat and humidity. Then, it goes back to being sunny and hot for another few weeks. Southern Costa Rica (Jaco and southward) are always more humid and "wet" but follow similar seasons. The caribbean is different, almost the opposite. Hope that helps!

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před rokem +1

      Hi Big_Pick! Well…. Hum… haha that will depend significantly on the weather systems above (ie USA and Mexico) and also in the Caribbean at that time. My best guess would be to say that yes you will get some scattered showers and it will be mostly lovely, however, it wouldn’t be fair to not say that sometimes in October it can rain for a full week if there are any hurricanes present within several hundred miles. But hopefully I stressed enough in the video that rain or shine Costa Rica is worth a trip and the weather is warm whether you are wet or dry and to be really optimistic; the animals actually prefer cloudy over super sunny. :)

      Of course, it does depend if you would like a beach vacation or a more active vacation? Jaco is fun although a little too city like for most people for what they are looking for for a beach vacation. If you’re looking for nightlife and pretty beach it works fine and it is close to San Jose.
      We did a video on using San Jose as a base and also one on Arenal and La Fortuna area if you have a chance to check those out. I’m also happy to answer any location specific questions if you have any.

      La Fortuna: Volcano, hiking, zip-lines and adventure parks, hot springs, waterfalls, "tico" culture. Spring like climate.
      Puerto Viejo: Beaches, laid back, slow pace, surfing, "rasta" caribbean culture. Warm and humid.

Check out Flamingo, Conchal, or Las Catalinas for luxury and Playa Grande, Brasilito, and Potrero for a change of scene for example)

      @SaltTravelCo  Před rokem

      Hi, happy to help hopefully. Do you fly into SJO or LIR?
      If you fly into SJO in the center of the country you could go into the mountains and see Arenal and Monteverde. And/or go south through Manuel Antonio, Dominical, Osa and Pavones. You could also go on the ferry over from Puntarenas to the Nicoya Peninsula and take a really great road trip around Tambor, Tango Mar, Montezuma and Santa Teresa.
      OR head to the east and drive to Puerto Viejo on the caribbean side.
      If you fly into LIR there is plenty to see and do in Guanacaste. Arenal and Monteverde make great additions if you want to see more than just the beaches.
      There is so much to see and do! I'm happy to elaborate if needed. You can go totally rustic and see lots of nature or totally luxury, pampering and relaxation. Costa Rica has it all.
      Cheers

      Hi Rebecca! I’m so sorry I didn’t see your question as it’s a great one! The infrastructure is great, however, it just takes a lot more time to go by bus as you don’t have as flexible of a schedule to work with. Renting a car is the easiest and best way as long as you’re comfortable driving in new places. The roads are pretty good really and a 4 x 4 is not necessary just take it slowly over the big bumps ☺️

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před 2 lety

      Well it’s definitely rainiest in October but Uvita rains a bit all year. Each area is very much microclimates. Another thing to remember is it could be raining 5 km from where you are and not where you are and vice versa. But they are tropical showers usually and pass pretty quickly. I think you’ll be fine and you’ll be able to get out. I do like to stress that it’s usually a bit of rain for part of the day but even that is warm and tropical so it’s not something that would necessarily keep you inside.

      Hi! Yes to the safety as far as anyone can say on a road. The one thing is the amount of time in the car. It might be something you wanna do to hire a shuttle and leave early in the morning and come back the same day but it would be a little bit too much time in the car for me personally (6+ hours) and there’s so much to see if you could dedicate at least three days to the Arenel area that would be best. Guanacaste is AMAZING for beaches. You could also check out the Volcanos of Rincón de La Vieja and Tenorio (Rio Celeste) which are closer. Hope that helps!!!

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před 2 lety

      Hi Andrea! So you are traveling soon?
      The best weather website that I know of is called PredictWind.
      I have never seen May in the 15 years that I have lived here so rainy! But we are on the Pacific side on the very lowest part of the Nicoya Peninsula. Last year we lived on the other side about an hour away and had pretty much zero rain. So Costa Rica is full of microclimates.
      My best advice is incorporate a couple different zones and you will see some different weather in each place. You can drive for 15 minutes and the weather will change based on your elevation.
      I’ve only ever been to the Caribbean side a handful of times but I know that in general the rainy season follows the opposite pattern of the Pacific side so in theory that would make it more sunny and less rainy May through November.
      Like I say in the video the rain is warm and usually pretty sporadic although this year things are very different than I’m used to.
      I would recommend doing a combination of Guanacaste and including Arenal volcano area; ie La Fortuna. Guanacaste is relatively dry compared to the south of Costa Rica and I really don’t think anyone should miss Arenal. :)

      June shouldn’t have too much rain, usually these showers are few and occur during the night hours leaving everything clean, watered and green without affecting outings and adventures. :)
      I’d be more than happy to help you come up with the best places to visit. Of course, knowing a little more about your objectives (relaxation, adrenaline, plush, rustic, etc) could help me customize the suggestions. It’s also important to know if you fly into SJO or LIR? However, a generally amazing itinerary in my opinion includes a visit to Arenal Volcano area, there you’ll find every kind of adventure and activity. Then I’d include a few days at a beach. Personally either Tamarindo/playa Grande área or Caribbean side are my favorites though require some long hours driving.
      Happy to elaborate more if you’d like! No matter what I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time! Cheers

    This video is a total oversimplification of the rainy season. "It rains a little bit in July and August?" I was in San Jose in August and it literally rained for three days straight. Now that is not normal. The other thing is with the different microclimates it really depends where you are in Costa Rica, but overall prepare for a lot of rain-just look at a precipitation map of how much rain most of the country receives.
    I love rainy season too, but lets not downplay it.

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi Barco, yes, I totally agree. My intention was actually just to explain that the "rainy season", although technically stretches from May to November, does not mean monsoon season every one of those days. That's all. And to your point, that the microclimates make a huge difference, for example, Arenal area, where we spent a sunny week in October. I try to answer as many specific questions related to the topic as possible, always trying to remind people that it is weather and is unpredictable. I apologize if I did not stress ENOUGH this is a generalization based on my experience. I guess I thought that was kind of common sense when trying to describe entire months of the weather. Hi Pamela! Oh what a fun trip idea! And happy 60th!
      With all necessary acknowledgments that I’m in no way weather expert I would say that most likely you will just have scattered showers during September. Last year, it barely rained at all in September. The only exception would be if there was a major storm that formed over the Caribbean or Pacific is directly affecting us which is when you might get several days of rain in a row.
      It’s been a very strange year for rain and started raining heavily in May. We are in the Arenal area right now and it rains reliably every afternoon sometimes for an hour sometimes for the rest of the day. Guanacaste (ie. Tamarindo) is considerably drier.
      I certainly can’t guarantee you won’t have rainy days but I am very confident to say you all will have a blast and there will be some sun most likely :)

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před rokem

      Good morning Justine, thanks so much! November is a little tricky because in 13+ years of my experience living in Costa Rica, there was like a switch that would turn off at the end of October and November would just be summer days again. The last two years have been completely different! November has been a lot more rainy than I ever remember being. That being said, I do have to stress, you will still get sunshine! And it’s warm! Grab a very light rain poncho, throw it in your bag, and you can go out and do all the activities just the same for the most part. Tamarindo is a much drier climate than Manuel Antonio however, end of November and December Guanacaste gets a very cold wind called the Papagayo. (Cold as in 70’s 😂)
      If you want to go to Manuel Antonio, because you want to go to the park and see the wildlife, then it’s in a different leagues than Tamarindo. However, if you want relaxation, great restaurants, beautiful beaches, Tamarindo, in my opinion wins because of the walk ability and layout of the town. Manuel Antonio is a long steep cliffs, and everything is spread out up and down steep roads. Tamarindo beach area is flat and if you pick a spot within five or so blocks of the beach, you’ll be walking everywhere with ease.
      I sure hope that helps some! Weather is unpredictable, but what I can say for sure is that you guys will have a blast!

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi Chris, in general over many of the past 15 years, in my experience, October can be very rainy. The rainiest month usually. The last 2-3 years were more strange and it rained less but for longer, stretching as far as January, which before was almost unheard of. It is so complicated haha
      My intention with the video was really just to say that rainy season as it is called does not mean monsoons. The seasons change gradually, raining a bit more in August than May, for example. There are sunny days in September and October and rainy days in March too. And most importantly, Costa Rica is loaded with micro climates and the weather can be dramatically different a few minutes down the road.
      Hope that helps! Cheers! Wishing you happy travels!

    • @SaltTravelCo
      @SaltTravelCo  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Kaylee, that’s a great question. Personally, I really like it a little greener and a little less hot! November, December, May, June, and July being “shoulder seasons” of the rainiest months. December is very popular and thus crowded, March tends to be stiflingly hot, and September and October CAN be pretty rainy.
      All that said things are changing quite dramatically. For example it’s been raining a lot ever since beginning of April which doesn’t usually happen. Last September we got record low rainfall.
      I love the little tropical showers. The rains are light, usually come in and out quickly and it stays warm so you can still do activities.
      Very complicated subject matter but I hope that helps answer the question somewhat. Happy to elaborate if there’s any doubt. Cheers and happy travels!
