    Just started a clean up on my grandfather’s Yost vice I’ve neglected for some thirty years now , that vice looks so much like the one you restored and is probably about as old

      I’ll have a Yost vise restoration in the future. They are great vises and a very historic American company!

    Great video, I rescued a 1922 Reed 104 from my dad's back yard. Your video helped a lot. Mine has a split cap on the handle and I couldn't figure out how to remove it, so I left it alone. The refinish came out great. Thanks for the video.

    Nice job on the repair! I recently bought a 105 and a 105R; the 105 is missing the right mounting lug, and the 105R has an iffy weld on the movable jaw. So, my plans are to get one really good vice 105R resto out of the two. The 105R was cheap and 105 was basically free.

      That’s sounds like a great plan! I keep broken vises for that very reason, if I find one that needs a part and I know I have a spare then I can probably get it cheap. Thanks for the kind words.

    Makes a great paper weight also and door stopper also and kids like spinning the spindle all kinds of useful things to do with hunk of metal all right !!!!

      That kind of use may be falling short of it's full potential, but if the kids like it.....go for it!

    Nice job on this vice. Reeds are often said to be the best vices out there. As a side note, aren’t you concerned about heating metal to a red heat right on your anvil face? I’d be concerned that could negatively affect the heat treat on the face.

    • @shopdoc
      @shopdoc  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks! Not worried because the anvil face barely even gets warm when heating something up on it….the mass of the anvil is just too much of a heat sink and never allows the anvil to get warm. I couldn’t get the face to 150F if I tried!

    Здравствуйте, подскажите можно спилить нижний выступ где они крепятся к столу?, а то они слишком выступают от стола, хочу разместить их поглубже

    where did you get that color paint i thought they stop making verda green hammered paint

    • @shopdoc
      @shopdoc  Před 2 lety

      I think I bought it at my local Walmart.I liked it so much I painted a Wilton vise this color after doing this Reed. I think I am keeping the Wilton, gave this Reed away.

      Yes it was definitely abused for a time. Thankfully they are so well made that it functions flawlessly!

    Not really what I'd call a restoration, more like a maintenance and repaint.
