Adding a frame of eggs to a queenless colony

I suspected that one of my colonies was queenless, no queen, no eggs, no brood, so I added a test frame of eggs. The video shows the state of play 7 days later. Thanks so much for viewing.

I do it all the time, right up to the middle of July, I just try to get eggs from my best hives

Better to leave two rather than just one queen cell. If one is a dud or gets damaged it will set you back in getting a virgin queen mated and laying eggs. The first to emerge will take care of her competition.

Waiting 7 days to see if there's any eggs is NOT long enough ... you need to wait at least a minimum of 3-5 weeks ..... don't forget that your swarm could of arrives with a virgin queen .....

If its got a queen they'll just raise brood. Its no biggie.

I always heard that if a hive is queenless for 3 weeks you could end up with laying workers which can only lay drones.

I agree. It doesn’t hurt to add a frame of eggs. If they need a queen, they will make one, if not. They are good to go with a boost of younguns.
