About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies. - Zábava

Please tell the doctor that his work is the most informative on the whole internet, and that this video is a keeper.
My husband and I have been in beekeeping for seven years. We currently have 14 hives and are number one for creamed honey and Amber honey 2020 in the whole state of NJ. We attend monthly meetings with our local beekeeping association and can't believe that we are still learning. I thank you all for posting this. It's a bee beautiful day!
We own busybees floral and decor LLC in Blackfoot idaho. We love bees and we sell honey and Bee decorations too.
I love that you are from NJ so am I! I live in an apartment so I live vicariously through videos like this one lol. Please send the name of your company I love some local honey!💜🐝
Beeautiful day
My 4 year old son says he wants to be a beekeeper when he grows up and heads been saying this for over a year. We live on 140 acres in southeast Texas and are opening a winery/ meadery. I have reached out to our local bee community but... well, they are very proprietary and don't take to us "city slickers" too kindly (my husband has lived here for 22 years and I for 6 but we did move from houston). Essentially, I need recommendations on ethical beekeeping, the how to and not to. Recommendations?
@@Juniperlaneestatesales go back to the city. Your stupid ideas are why the locals don't like you.
This is the kind of guy I would want as a neighbor and a friend. I just found you because as a service disabled vet, I have decided to pursue apiary sciences (a couple hives on my ten acres) Yup,... it really is a BEE -yootiful day !!!
You know i get so depressed about the world and some of the idiots I encounter. Then I find a movie like this and the see the genuine love and respect not only for each other but for the Bees and nature. It fills me with optimism. I gonna get my own colony this year?? Greetings from Wales.
So did you get your bees?? Hope you did 😊 i just invested in a handmedown colony. I have no idea what I am doing but the price was right. If gas keeps going up I'll at least have honey, milk, eggs and blackberries lol

I really didn’t intend to watch this all the way through but I can’t stop watching! Need to find this guy again.
Bro I sat outside of Pizza Hut watching this video. I had the same ideal about just watching a little of it...Wrong! that Russian guy is a walking encyclopedia on bee keeping. I pray I can be just like him!
. He’s the most famous bee keeper in the world! I’m a new beekeeper and my next hive will be a dr Leo horizontal hive. I’ve spent covid reading his books. I’m I’m PA. USA. i am following your bee videos with great interest...i am 63 planning my escape from the city, and looking for small ways to supplement my income as i hit my 90s. i don't see myself herding cattle, so am looking for smaller stock...voila, bees! i am fascinated in letting the bees do their thing naturally without extensive meddling by me...
My current plan is fruit and small birds...(elderberry, blue and blackberry, apples, ground cherries, and persimmon) small plantings.
i am already growing veg in my backyard aquaponics...
thank you for your sharing.
I believe in my heart......THIS! is the most informative video I'VE EVER WATCHED!

Look, how to add a New quuen
Bee hive anatomy, physiology and socialization is fascinating. You can find a place to keep bees almost anywhere! But you need a good basic local bee club course. This is something I would never have tried without a a class and mentor.
I have been keeping bees for over 40 years and it is pretty much nonsense. The "top bar hive' has been around a very long time, nothing new there. Bees overwinter in Langston hives all over the country with no problem, if the beekeeper does not screw things up for the bees. Leaving too many honey supers on is a mistake. It creates more area the bees have to keep warm. In the very cold areas two deep hive bodies are enough. Its all kind of cute that the guy puts on his costume and does the "off grid" stuff as he drives around in his minivan, but he is not someone you want to listen to about bees. (see for example Barnyardbees here on CZcams)
@@deborahdonnelly8423 where in PA are you? I’m just north of the MD line, looking for a beekeeping course. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don’t have bees yet but hope to in the spring.
I agree
I was raised as a child with the fact that honey is Medicine. We need "Honey Disciples" like yourselves to continue
It is a beeutiful day here in central Florida. I was going to fill three hive bodies with packages of bees but now I want the horizontal hive. I am 82 years old, and a beekeeper for 7 years. I had bees in N. Georgia but moved here. I LOVE BEES!!! The honey is just the "frosting on the cake". I teach Scouts about beekeeping and am trying to get BSA to reinstate the beekeeping merit badge!
It’s a BEE Beautiful day for beekeeping
I’m passing my first kidney stone at 21 and bee videos are the only thing keeping me distracted from the pain thank you
I had them. Lime juice stopped them. I also put a little lemon juice in a glass of water every few days.
I drink lemon juice, no sugar with a little salt. Just two lemons per day and your stones will pass within 24 hours.
Eat more red meat, veg while cutting out sugar, fast food and refined carbs.
Best to you ❤
first? you planning on having more? lol
It's a bee-utiful day!
Thanks for sharing knowledge on beekeeping.
Have wanted to get into bee keeping for years. This year I am finally going to start. I have read multiple books and watched tons of video. I am 100% behind the horizontal hive. Can't wait to see how I do. I work off shore in the Gulf of Mexico every 2 weeks. When I go home this time, I will be building and installing swarm hives while I build my first Layen's hive. I really appreciate all the info you and several other on line bee keepers share with us. I have learned so much from ya'll's videos. It is a joy to watch your videos.
Have a bee-utiful day.
I'm amazed at how intelligent bees are. Wow.
What a fantastic and extensive look into beekeeping in your area. It is great that Dr. Leo went over the pests and diseases, that swarm catching technique is really great. I hope to see more of your videos on beekeeping soon. -Kieran

It is a Beautiful bee day today, folks.
Just picked up 2 hives last week, our first bees . Scrambling for advice thanks for the education.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought, "Is Stacy ill?" when I saw Dr. Leo. Ha Ha.
On second glance I realized, that's a man with long hair, duh.
Turned out, it's a Beeutiful day.
I've heard of the horizontal beekeeping concept from a local beekeeper acquaintance; never seen it in action until today.
Thank you all so much for the knowledge. I have multiple bulging disks in my back and neck. (Do not let your children play football.) This definitely fits in with light lifting farming. Spinal fusion and swollen vertebrae make many things a challenge. I'm 48, but my Dr. says I have the arthritic back of an 80 year old. Prayers and happy thoughts my way are greatly appreciated.
Love you guys.
😂😂
I hope your back gets better. Keep on keeping on.
Superb and excellent content. I now respect bees a little more. Thank you for the knowledge!!!!
its a bbeeutifuul dayyyyy!!!!!
Bee utiful video, looking forward to getting started with horizontal hives :)
I remember an old neighbor farmer would ask my father to come over bale up some small hay bales from his hay field. As he would feed some and use some as insulation for the bottom of his house for wind break. And would also wrap and stack some around his bee hives for the winter cold too as wind barrier and insulation. We did the same with our farm and dog house. Then as spring comes would slowly move and feed off the hay to his horses and cattle. My father's farm was in the SE corner of Nebraska and the North and West winds can make for some cold winters and high snow drifts too.
I never comment but this is video is AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing. See you at Lehman's. It's a beeutiful day!
Despite the winds, this content is AMAZING!! Thank you soo much for sharing!!! God bless you!! Doug and Stacy!!! Its a BEE YOU TEE FUL DAY!!!!😘
It's a beautiful day!!! ❤️
it's a beautiful Day. Thank you for bringing him on.
Our pleasure!
It's a bee-utiful day!!! Thanks for bringing that knowledge to this new
beekeeper!!Blessings!
I really wanted bees. I grew up with them because my dad had his own hives but because its so cold here in WI I decided not too. Also did not like the fact that you buy bees and they send it to you. I love that the bees can come to you if you provide the hive. Now, because of this video, I am going to have my own bees. Very happy!!!
Just add more insulation to the hive and allow more honey to stay in the hive for the winter months. There are quite a few beekeepers in the colder states on CZcams to find. Might I also recommend to look at the top bar hive, a more natural way for bees to do their thing, a bit less productive in terms of honey production, but beekeeping is a hobby anyways.

This is exactly what I needed to know to get started. I am so grateful to be able to meet Dr. Leo and learn from his experience. Thank you Doug & Stacy \O/
Thank You Dr.Leo 4.UR.B💟. Contribution 2 the 🌎.
One of the things we have done with our langstoms is to make hardboard insulation boxes that fit around the box and over the top. We get temps down around -10F in the Winter. What is hard on our bees is that twice per year we get winds for two days up to 105mph in our little valley. We try to move our hives into the barn for a couple weeks during the wind time but if we can’t they are anchored to concrete foundations in the ground and the hives are in a gully around a marshy spring. So far so good as long as we keep them from swarming. I am very interested in the horizontal hives! As I get older and walking is more difficult I do not want to have to give up my bees! It’s a bee-eautiful day!
It's a bee-utiful day! Time well spent. Thank you for the additional knowledge! Continued blessings for you and yours.
What a BEEUTIFUL video and all the knowledge given. Have a great blessed weekend!
It's a beautiful beekeeping day!
I never really liked honey until I seen Stacy's fermented honey garlic video and bought raw local honey ,
It's a Bee🐝utiful day!
I'm excited to build a hive for our local bees!!
I got a wild swarm last year. I live in rural farming area. Not many trees. So I believe that is why they took an empty hive I had. I did not have to buy any bees so I was happy. The swarm was huge. It is my first hive and it looks to be doing very well.
As I am new to bee keeping these videos have been very helpful to me.

Thanks for this video. Really enjoyed it!
Doug you really need to become best friends with Dr. Leo. He is amazing.
So much information thank you gentlemen
God bless you and yours and God bless the USA
He is so knowledgeable. It will be awesome if a swarm ends up coming to your box in the tree stand. The info about the sides of the boxes being too thin and not keeping them warm enough is really good to know.
I had read an article that said a main reason why bees are dying in America is because farmers import hives from states away. I had no idea how simple it is to catch a local hive. And so much better for the environment. I'm also looking forward to see if they catch a hive.
Thank you, Doug. I really want bees but I want to be knowledgeable in raising them first. Great video!
Fantastic information. He knows his bees!!!

Wow! So much information! I live in a condo in New York City and will never have bees here (except for the bumbles in spring), but was fascinated by this video.
Bee hives on the roof, never say never!!
@@festorfamine Not allowed. It's not an apartment condo - it's townhouses, so our roofs are slanted. The board won't even let us hang bird feeders in our yards. Last year I had to pull up all of my ivy or be fined because they said rats could hide in it.
@@kathleensturgis8525 Sounds like you have a power mad board of directors. When I bought my house, I made sure it was not in a HOA area. Probably one of the best decisions I ever made.

It's a bee-utiful day! One of the best beekeeping videos I have seen. So much information. I learned a lot. Thank you.
This video has been a BeeeeeeLESSING for us all
Have a grand and joyous day Trina
There's a reason my grandpa moved his hives to his backyard every winter ... Even if you don't have boxes with thicker planks or other insulation at least get them out of the wind. Just putting them close to a wall (preferably one that shelters the hive from northern winds) does so much.
I used to purchase Italian bees. And I had a lot of colony collapse as well. An Old Gentleman Crosstown told me about just catching wild Texas honey bees. And that they were more aggressive could fight off tasks and more resistant to disease. You got rid of all my bees and started collecting wild bees. And have not had any colony collapse since. It's been three years.
This is a wonderful video, full of knowledge and this video is going to all my family and friends.
Thank you for this wonderful present.
