My German Shepherd would not even want to go outside to the back yard. I’d be working in my garden 30’ away and would be getting stung for no reason. I had to work the garden in my bee suit.

    I’ve rescued 2 colonies last week. I feed mine a lot of sugar syrup when I catch a new swarm to build them up. They need it to build comb for the Queen to lay eggs and build up strong before winter hits. They do better in a big cluster. The second year I don’t feed them sugar. I’m in hot, dry Texas and once summer hits there’s very little food available for them.

    The problem is that people need to take a weekend class from a master beekeeper before getting bees. I am a second year beekeeper. I took a weekend class and then did a one year mentorship...Bees die over winter usually because they were not treated for varroa mites prior to going into winter. Colonies shrink during winter so if your mite count is high and the colony is small they will not be able to control the mites..They also need to be feed sugar water or pollen so they don't starve over winter. You don't have to feed sugar water if you leave frames of stored honey in the box. The biggest problem is that people think they put a box in their yard, and that's it done... That's not the case... So now you catch a swarm ... Does anyone here know what to do next? When do you add a second box, when do you make a split, when do you feed them, what does the brood pattern look like, do you see eggs, do you have hive beetles or mites....ect ect. Take a weekend class, people, before getting bees..

Spray the box twice a day inside with the mix, starting in March. No feeders needed.. Never have I had to buy bees, but I do give them away, when they swarm out.

    I think it is wonderful that you, along with Dr. Leo, are teaching natural beekeeping methods that have stood the test of time. I am certain, like myself, many people did not have this knowledge, as it has been replaced over time. Catching swarms of local bees is the correct path. Why buy bees when you can go out and catch some already acclimated to our own area. It makes perfect sense. Please keep the beekeeping videos with Dr. Leo coming! Thank you so very much!

    Where I live I never saw honeybees but I tried swarm traps anyway... no luck. I think because I'm so far from a town and I'm surrounded for miles and miles by a fir forest (for lumber production). I finally bought bees last year and they're doing good in the insulated layens hive. Thank you Dr Leo!

    • @Alkarasu
      @Alkarasu Před 27 dny +2

      Well, if you never saw any bees or swarms it might mean that you're in luck and may actually exploit it for your benefit (and even some nice profit if it goes well). Due to your isolation, you'll be the only source of drones in the area, which means you can choose who your new queens mate with, and that would enable you to do some good selective breeding. Isolated places are naturally valued among beekeepers for that purpose.

    Swarm relocation tip:
    I have done this to every swarm i catch and it works. Take down the trap at night with a screen taped over it. Put the trap right next to the hive they will be transferred to. Put branches with leaves on them right in front of the trap totally covering the trap entrance, then remove the screen from the entrance. This will force the bees to realize they have been moved and they will reorient themselves to that specific location. This method allows you to move a trap any distance close by. It always works for me except for maybe a dozen stragglers at the old location. I learned it on CZcams as well while i was researching this problem of relocation.

      Yep, the real scam is making people believe you can catch “wild” bees. If your lucky, you might catch your neighbors swarm. But you probably won’t. Doug is clearly clueless about beekeeping.

    I’ve never had issues feeding sugar water as far as like it they go beyond that & need sugar water often in the Grand Canyon high desert.

    I got my hive.
    I got my collected colony.
    I stay away unless I am trying to get stung (trying out the therapeutic benefits)
    My next goal is to split my hive.

    I sure hope he brings some of his bee swarm catchers and hives to the conference to sell in a few weeks! Can't wait to meet him, his knowledge is so much better than the stuff I have found here in my local comunity!

    Same thing, I would lose my bees every winter. I belonged to a local Bee Association ... our came out of Georgia to Central Kentucky. I learned a lot with you working with Dr. Leo. What a great a tutorial. Dr. Leo has everything in your kit which is so convenient. All the best.

    For the last 2 years, this year will be the third, I have been trying to catch bees. I know there are bees in the area, and I know there are other hives in the area as well, but I have had no success. I have followed all the tips and tricks, bought the kit from Dr. Leo, but still nothing. I have 6 traps up in a 60 mile radius, unfortunately I am to the point I am considering buying bees from a local treatment free keeper.
