    I really enjoyed this. I especially liked the good and bad player conversation. To me the only thing that makes a player “BAD” is if they play Yu-Gi-Oh! in a fearful or defeatist mindset. This could happen for a multitude of reasons, which clouds our understanding. To remedy this a positive attitude goes a long way. When the mind is open we can learn & improve. This is easily cured with confidence. Which in YGO is a deep understanding of your deck, the meta, and the environment in which you play. Which takes time so be patient with yourself regardless of skill level.

    Casual players won't invest (literally and figuratively) as much into the game. So they obviously will be held back on some level for that. But if you give everyone the same exact deck (or the same limited card pool), there are casual players that will beat some competitive players. We see it plenty of times on CZcams. There are good casual players and bad competitive players. The power of the individual cards and decks are a huge part of who will win in a card game. But skill, knowledge, adaptability, these things matter too. And casual players can have a lot of that.

    • @Citizen_Nappa23
      @Citizen_Nappa23 Před měsícem +2

      Agree 100% can't really say one is bad at game when all decks aren't created equal, some match poorly against others or are power crept entirely. Doesn't make them bad players. Give a casual player same deck and some will educate so called "best in the game".

      A great sentiment. I agree 100% it's like when people ask which is more important in Yu-Gi-Oh luck or skill, a skilled player never disregards a lucky draw and a lucky player always tries to build their skills. Neither is better than the other truly.

    I'm a OG player of Yu-Gi-Oh! Been playing since 2002-2003 since the game came out and I watched how much the game changed for the worst I think. I still play casual, trade, sell, collect etc., but I don't play in tournaments anymore like I did in 2010, 2015, The game state became who can negate board first and that doesn't take much skill and negates the fun of Yu-Gi-Oh! Compared to in the past. Also hand traps replaced traps cards which is nuts. When I came in second place in regionals 2010-2011 I was playing Disaster Dragon 🐉 which most people were not expecting and most of my matches were Glad Beast back then and I only lost to Six Sams because I drew bad. Also the only hand traps were effect veiler and maybe battle fader and Gorz, Honest. I love combo pile decks now which I play on master duel a lot. But if I were to get back in the tournament scene I would most likely be playing Anti Meta because of how much the game has changed now. - Tek Wilson
    My decks have always been 43,45,60 depending on if I'm playing
    lightsworns with 60.

    A big thing for it that I'm taking from Jessie, is people need to learn how to "adapt and over come" things in the duels when things get thrown at you and it goes the same with life and problems that we may not see coming at the time but when it's there you have to find a way to adapt and over come through understanding what you have to do and what you can do. This is honestly a great talk that in my opinion can be used toward a lot of things and not just yugioh.

    I actually agree with almost everything you guys have say the key factor I have learned to adapt to the game without going over the budget, is how you can adjust to any format and know what types of decks are out there. I play heroes at the competitive level, and always switching strategies and non engine cards depending on what cards I am playing against to make sure, my deck always do well. For example, this format, I am focusing my strategies with adding more board breaking cards since negates are not that strong. If i see a certain deck comes up more at the locals I try to prepare my side deck against those decks. Its all about how you prepare for it.

    I agree with these guys, really need to know what it is you want. Thing about meta decks isn't that they are "better" but they generally are more consistent which makes them better choices. I play DM and every DM player will tell you, the less DM cards you use, the better the deck. I use branded bystial DM which is very consistent but not as much as pure snake eyes. Then there are cards that give you advantages like evenly matched, super poly, imperm, droplet, lightning storm, dark ruler no more, I could go in but what makes you better, is learning how to adapt to new strategies. Ignore other decks will in my opinion make you a worse player. If you like a deck say like heros, then play snake eyes, learn the mechanics, the plays and learn the weaknesses. Then use that knowledge to improve your hero deck. Read cards, learn the strategy and win duels.

    I know I can improve GREATLY if I actually add hand traps to my decks because that's one of the things I lack as I want to give my opponent to play but doing so makes them make a too powerful board so I loose. I should try and use some hand traps to interact with my opponent plays. Another is because I don't run the best of the best deck. The only time I ran the best of the best deck was during tears which made me reach a higher level in master duel, Diamond 1 but probably higher if I could since I had to do something in real life for family reasons. I now however, want to try the very competitive side of Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck building does play a big part but also experience and knowledge of facing the stronger players. As well as yes knowing and learning your mistakes. No excuses as you then won't learn but stay the same. You also need to know how to use your cards than just playing them.

    A lot of people aren't experienced enough at deck building to adapt the cards they want to play to the current format. It doesn't help matters when so many people have conflicting build philosophies that result in bricking on multiple copies of HOPT cards if you try to follow them all at once, even if you're only interested in ones pertaining to your deck of choice. And then so many people just think they can skip the learning process by just copying or near copying decks that win or top an event, only to find themselves clobbered by decks they don't understand, including a mirror they should AT LEAST be expected to see coming. This is the main reason why you see so many top players at "undefeated" in Swiss or X-1 to X-2 at worst, when on average W-L results should be MUCH closer to X - (X/2) if everyone was playing optimally and opening similarly viable hands against each other. Pros learn not just THEIR decks, but everyone else's they expect to see, and that makes all the difference.
    But even if it WERE possible to know what cards you SHOULD be playing for a given format and HOW to play them, there's a reason 90% of comments here are about pricing. The average person has to cut corners to try to make something viable, leading to some REALLY annoying anti-meta picks to become popular despite not always or even USUALLY being the optimal choices just because they're more budget friendly.

One thing i dont like about Meta only mindset players, every win is a learning experience every loss you learn more as well. why i dont like player mindset of winning at all costs because your playing the game for wrong reason, the goal is to learn,grow,adapt. Other than money factor with meta people actually misplay alot and don't know everything about their decks. Alot of people are bad at siding especially when your opponent is also siding as well deck buliding.
    Most Branded players know only 50% of branded power.
    If u new just play Kashtiera Stun. Your side includes 3 thrusts and three Soul Drain. Or play Kashtiera Swordsoul.
    Psychology and reading your opponent behavior and movement is very important. This aspect even pro players miss. Look at your opponent and read their body language especially changes. Play mind games.

    Objectively. 1 card combos win games. More cards in your deck to dedicate to disruption, more cards for board breakers. Less requirement for grave setup that in the TCG is hard punished by D shifter + time rules, since setup on average takes longer. Skill might be subjective in this but I'd just argue, Variety + different starters = more fun & a healthier game. Everything starting with Mo ye or the aim to reach branded fusion or SE ash just ruins the interesting aspects of ygo, 10+ years ago we didn't like auto pilot decks, now we do suddenly?

  • @raizen4597
    @raizen4597 Před měsícem +1

    Casual players play for having fun, only because someone is playing for having fun, doesnt mean is bad at the game (it could be but not all of them).
    If you try to compete and dont have a mindset open in the first place, in that case can we talking about bad players from their prospective. Did i played well? Did i made a mistake? Could improve there? This is the mindset to be competitive, not for a casual player (in any game not only yugioh).
    For compete in any kinda game not only yugioh, you need also money and free time.
    Some yugioh cards are very expensive to buy. Even master duel could be very expensive if you try to compete at the max possibility to qualify on the event.
    People have different ways to spend their time into the game.
    Someone for compete, someone for contents, most of them for fun and some for collecting cards.
    I hate this topic.
    Just do and spend your time in whatever you like, simple is that.

I find pleasure in formulating a deck with what I have to make it competitive (to the best of my ability).

    Yeah I've done a lot of testing with Branded for a very long time and it's a huge misconception that it needs to be floodgate deck because you can play 1 Dramaturge and the deck is naturally loaded with some of the best negates in the game plus Mirrorjade. If Branded Fusion gets Ashed you can make Dusk Dragon. Which leads Queratis and eventually Mirrorjade. Dusk also let's you send Titaniklad for Dogmatika Ecclesia or Quem(very rarely the right play and Ecclesia is usually better). Branded also can forcefully resolve a Branded Fusion by playing on yours and your opponents turn increasing the amount of non-engine by decreasing the packages you have in deck Patchwork engine can be played but isn't necessary. I wouldn't even play Bystials outside of Lubellion, Saronir, and Druiswurm. Thats probably just me though. It makes Branded worse against the mirror match. But I don't play Bystials or the Patchwork engine in my deck because part of the goal of my deck is to play through Ash Blossom with Fusion Deployment, Branded Opening, Cartesia, Quem, and Fusion Duplication.

    1) haven't played yugioh since 2009 (last deck i bought was either junk warrior or stardust dragon.)

    A bad player is someone who doesn’t know the game at all.
