- Replacing the air compressor on the NHC250 small cam 855 cubic inch engine. Replacement Compressor is #3018543X. Replaced the coolant hoses as well. Along with the air charging line.
TM is 9-2320-272-24-2 Starts on page 898 (4-31). Compressor replacement number is a 3018543X. Can be found on ebay as well. Truckpro had mine. Always replace the plastic spider gear on the injection pump side Cummins # 3046200. I do a lot more crap than I probably need to.
There is NO timing on the compressor or injection pump. The military TM calls for timing but as long as the accessory drive gear did not get removed then everything else is fine.
Great video, except for the fact that the county I'm in has about 2 to 3 of each brand of tool truck and nobody carries that Matco wrench you showed us
For anyone needing to do this job, harbor freight makes an icon brand S Wrench. Between the S wrench and a napa moon wrench you can get the bolt off. Or, what I did is cut the 9/16 end off the S wrench right around the "9", turned the end around and welded it back together as an extended moon wrench and it works great. You don't need to weld it back together, if you just cut the end of and smooth out the edges you'll be fine. I just welded it back together so that maybe if I ever need the 9/16 end I'll still have it
Great video sir, Thank You. Just wish I would have watched it before I attempted the removal of mine!
The truck I’m doing the compressor is between the frame rail. Yours is way more open
Why is timing the compressor gears require timing and the fuel pump does not?
hogcat you actually do not have to time the compressor. Unless the accessory drive gear is removed as well. The military TM says to time the compressor a certain way but it can go anyway it wants and not hurt it.
Is the one bolt that’s hard to get to an 11/16 or 5/8
5/8
Great info! I would like to promote you on our channel so that more people can check out your work, if that is ok with you.
NelsonStudios go for it
Both of you have help me tremendously, thank you both.
Hi how do i delete the air compressor from my engine. Is the fuel pump drive different from the air compressor drive? I'm using the engines for a boat so don't want the compressor there. Thanks
You need a spline to lovejoy adapter. They are found on generator engines The accessory drive has a splines on it. It is connected to the air compressor with a spline to spline coupler. You simply remove this and add a spline to lovejoy connector. The PT pump uses a lovejoy type connector
@@wessimpson2794 thanks so much for your help. . I'll try to find some online. But if you know of anywhere that has them. Could you let me know. Again thanks for your knowledge 👍
@@YZFR1mart I might have one on a junk generator engine I have. I'll look later on this week.

That is the catalog. Scroll down till you find part # 3000175
-20. That is the lovejoy you need and the splined coupler is there too.
@@wessimpson2794 if you have 1 or 2 that'd be great 👍 are you in the UK? And thanks for the link for the part number. I'm new to these engines and wasn't sure of the drive matching up etc. I'm just hoping the flange which the air compressor currently is bolted to is the same bolt centres as the fuel pump. Or if i need a different auxiliary pump housing.
How did you thread the rear bolt in I cant fit my hand back there
One finger over the top and one underneath and barely turn it
New to diesel engine. What's the air compressor purpose and why does it have to be mounted before the fuel pump?
For air Brakes and old airwipers .Cummins 855 runs off the timing gear acc drive and it turns the compressor and fuel pump .
I need pump to buy
