  • Glass Central Station is honored to present this content from the 2019 Glass Craft & Bead Expo. Andrew Pollack is known for his nature inspired work in both hollow & solid forms and his studio in New Orleans is becoming a hot-spot for glass education. During his class "Introduction to Sculpting Borosilicate Glass" he shared the creation of an octopus. In addition to killer sculpture, techniques covered include the stick & snap method of working with eye murrine, making proper welds & seals and decorative methods utilizing rod & frit color.

    My son and I were both in that class, sitting right next to him in Las Vegas in 2019. Andrew is incredible! Very talented and a very good instructor. If you get a chance I highly suggest taking one of his courses.

    I used to have a little pink octopus made like that . Over the decades he slowly became a monopus though

      Heh! Someone could have repaired him for ya, added some new legs. Would be kind of cool to have one made that way.

    As he hates his glass rod he dips it in a glass to his right that appears to have a powder in it can anyone tell me what this is?

    • @SELENADEMIKAT2221
      @SELENADEMIKAT2221 Před 2 lety

      He’s dipping in frit. Basically powered glass but particles can vary in size and it tends to leave a speckle look vs using solid colored glass.

    could i use this to make my own lab equipment

    • @TorchTalk
      @TorchTalk  Před 3 lety

      Yes, most lab equipment is made on the torch with the same type of glass used in this demo, borosilicate.

    Definitely doesn't look like the same piece as the thumbnail. Did this one not survive the kiln, or what?

  • @kiyabcs

    The torch is soooo fucking bad for your eyes get a filter for your lense

    • @TorchTalk
      @TorchTalk  Před 5 lety

      That footage does have a filter, an Aura which works great. You'd not be able to see anything through the orange flare without it.
