  • When is it coming? What will it be like? Can it beat the Sworks SL8?!

    your BB creaking could be the sleeve creaking. Use a thick NLGI2 grease between the sleeves and interfacing points within the BB.

    Dread to think how much it'll cost. They upped the price for the current frameset to €64-6700 depending on finish. Also, have you not asked them to replace the frame? If BB is creaking and lunching bearings it probably means the hole is too small or ovalized and pinching the aluminium threaded insert, which then squeezes your BB, which squeezes the bearings. Threaded BBs solve nothing if you still can't make a correctly sized round hole ... and they tend to fall out of carbon frames after a few years once the epoxy fails or corrosion takes place.

      All good points. The prices have become a bit silly now, especially if the quality is not perfect. I will soon be at the point where I ask Factor to warranty the frame if I cannot get rid of the noise.

      exactly. PF BB are way better in every aspect than threadded bb

    I Will be very interested to see a new Ostro I have always liked it myself but there was no inkling of a replacement on the horizon so I just went from and SL7 to the new SL8.
    Is the SL8 between hmmm well
    marginally better, lighter and a little more comfort able.
    I was not sure about the head tube but when I picked up the bike once built I actually like it.

    Would you consider buying an Ostro today? Love this bike but I don't know if I should wait for possibly newer frame

      Tough question to answer - depends on how impatient you are to start riding an Ostro. You could of course sell your Mark 1 when the 2 arrives, but you would lose quite a chunk of cash.

    I’m definitely looking out for this. I test rode the current Ostro and enjoyed it, very comfy, but It wasn’t as fast as other aero bikes for the same wattage. Hopefully they make some strong aero improvements to the mk2.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I think it's extremely difficult to detect a difference of 5-10 watts in aero frames (which is a BIG difference), especially if you don't have perfectly stable conditions, like an indoor track. I think the Ostro is very aero, but I cannot quantify it......

      @SimonGoesSideways Před 9 měsíci

      @@CyclespeedTours Totally agree about the feeling. This test was done on the outdoor track at the Stratford Velodrome. Of the four bikes I rode, the Factor was the slowest (Strava lap comparison) I’m sure there will be a raft of improvements for the Mk2 which I am looking forward to.

    Why should somebody go for an ostro in the first place? The one I ever rode felt like a wet pool noodle. I mean, I am a 1.95m +90 kg sprinter, but compared to my TCR, it really lacked stiffness. You report a whole lot of quality issues... Why support this brand? Why not go for something with a better quality record like Look or Time?

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před 9 měsíci +2

      The Ostro is good enough for pro teams, so I don't think it has any stiffness issues. But yes, they do need to sharpen up their quality control.

    • @MS-bw7yt
      @MS-bw7yt Před 9 měsíci +4

      @@CyclespeedToursgood point! But pro teams, at least at world tour level, rarely ride stock frames. Same mould, but different layup. Froomies frame has little to do with the thing which is publicly sold. I think on CZcams also Cam Nicholls reported stiffness issues with an ostro. Maybe it is also related to quality control, who knows. But at the end of the day, being extra light has to come at a cost.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před 9 měsíci

      @@MS-bw7yt Maybe, but the SL7 is the same weight, and the SL8 is lighter still, and no one seems to mention their stiffness as an issue. Keeping the frames stiff and crack free at these weights is certainly a challenge, but they seem to manage!

    • @MS-bw7yt
      @MS-bw7yt Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@CyclespeedTours if you look into the test results of the German " Tour Magazin " you can see that the Tarmac is not one of the stiffest bikes out there and with the newer iterations it is not getting stiffer. Is it still enough? Maybe? As a heavy sprinter, I couldn't care less about weight and would certainly prioritise stiffness and manufacturing quality over 100-200 g of carbon here and there. The ostro I rode definitely felt not stiff enough. Very flexy in a sprint and a lot of disc brake rub riding out of the saddle
