This lovely woman is what reminds me of how America became great.
I can imagine her ancestors being very proud of her. Very clear instructions and tips.
She has a great understanding of what it takes for a successful fire.
How do you turn it off?
She is actually an awesome teacher! She should be so proud. 👍👍👍😁😊

Real women - you ROCK!!! Don’t stop.
an old scout master taught us to wipe the outside of your pots with a thin layer of dish soap before placing them on a fire to easily wipe the black off when finished.
Good tip but if your rocket stove is properly designed and put together there will be no smoke or soot since the main principle of the rocket stove is complete gasification.
Bill Burd ***{ thank you .. }***
An old scout master taught me to wipe too...
@@RedfishInc lol
The Girl Scouts used powdered laundry detergent mixed with water to form a thin paste and apply to the out side of the cast iron. When you put it in the wash water the scorched soap would just melt away.
I love how you are cooking high off the ground to save you back! Great idea on your improved rocket stove and pressure cooker, I learned some good stuff here!👍🏼
Did you have any idea in 2016, how important your video would become in 2020? Thank you so much for taking the time to help us all. Really, this could make the most important difference to many people. You did good.
Excellent, absolutely excellent video. Special Thanks for saying "Masonry Blade on a Skilsaw" ( circular saw). A joy to use with the right wind. That said, I've made your design including the two riser blocks ( so a total of 7 instead of 5 ). Oct. 2022 I put out a total under $30 including the under $5 blade and an 8th block in case I messed up cutting the first block. Didn't mess up. EZ, I cut the 8th one anyway for a backup fire chamber and just because I was really enjoyed cutting that concrete so easily. Bonus Points to you for the often left out can air intake. You are AWESOME! ( and I know this is 6 years later, but still great!) Thanks You!
Regular cinder blocks crack when repeatedly heated to extreme temperatures. I suggest building a more permanent stove lined with fire brick.
Indeed, a woman who is not worried about getting her hands a bit dirty deserves extra credit.
she deserved a real man
Well done,,,,,,,,,,,
Now if we can only find a man that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty.
if you can find a lady that gets her hands dirty you better keep her. she's a lady that will help you get thru many things and not afraid to work. she deserves extra credit, yes.
If she's not married some aren't doing their jobs. She should be someone's wife. She's lovely.
In India we use Pressure Cookers, it saves lots of energy & nutrients, just keep the steam exhaust clean.

Pressure cookers are Awesome. Most people are afraid of them!
Genius to use a pressure cooker with the rocket stove. The p.c. requires much less heat & time to cook the same food in a stock pot. I love your design. I especially like the height! Keeps the kitchen cool in the Summer too. Thanks so much for the cool video!

Pretty sure anybody can start a raging fire using an acetylene torch and any nearby fuel source. LOL.
This is akin to starting a fire using a flame thrower.
Great! Also, your explanation was SO thorough. This came up on my menu after five years, and I’m glad it did!
Great vid hon. Clear descriptions of what you're doing and why. Demonstration was just long enough that I didn't lose interest and not so short that u left a bunch of unanswered questions to plague me. Good job!
I agree with you except you should never use cinder blocks for this type of project!
Those are cement blocks, not cinder blocks! True cinder blocks are very dark gray, and not as strong in compressive strength as cement blocks.
Fantastic! I love the addition of the can beneath the sticks. :)
Well done! Just an fyi for you. Cinder blocks are known for cracking in higher heat. They cos a bit more but, you can get red or fire bricks shaped like standard building bricks and build the same thing by staggering the way you stack them. Then you won't need to worry about them breaking and you will get years of use out of them. I also recommend cast iron pots. Never the less, well done. Shows what you can do with a little effort.
So far, as I look at rocket stove videos, this is the best one. Nice she has all the dried sticks available.

I’m a late comer to this video. Just happened to run by it by chance. Looks like what I was going to say had been said already by several men and women. But I will say it again: what an awesome woman!! Not afraid to get her hands dirty, and is quite skilled in all the things that really matter it seems! Doesn’t need make/up and papering and probably is an excellent companion to some lucky guy. The world needs a lot more of gals like this!!!
Using that cut up can as an air funnel is one of those small everyday strokes of genius that just brings a smile to my face. Brilliant!
I have watched many tutorials about rocket stoves, and many people waste a lot of time getting it started. Your technique is the most common sense approach that I've seen! Something you might try is dryer lint, which is mostly cotton, and can be kept in a zip lock bag. A cheap effective startup fuel is 91 to 94 percent isopropyl alcohol. Try spray painting your cinder blocks with high temperature Krylon paint to prevent cracking from high temperatures and prevent water absorption of rain. You can put a layer of tin foil on your pots to keep the soot off, or put your pot inside an aluminum pan, and this can be reused. Great video, looking forward to more!
Instead of a stove grill on the top, you can use any (metal) spacer; we used coat hanger wires on our version, and the tiny gap turned out to be enough to keep the chimney draft going, but made better use of the heat since not as much would bypass the pot. Another BSA related improvement: "skirt" the pot with tinfoil that drapes the outside of the pot, extending below the top of the block; leave a gap in the foil for gasses to escape. This really increases the heat transfer by heating the sides of the pot as well as the bottom. It took a lot less fuel. I like the tin can combustion air "duct"!! Another thought: use a wok ring (doesn't everyone have one of these?!!) instead of buying a grill.
Oh, yes! I use my wok ring all the time on my gas range it is made from cast iron from the 1970's, it keeps my wok steady and secure.😁
You are a very industrious lady ! Masonry blade on a skilsaw, and cooking outside ! Thank you for the video! Very well done
if a man can find a lady like this one, he'd better keep her.

This is the most simple rocket stove I've seen. It's also made from materials I'm likely to have on hand. I've seen some comments that the cinder blocks are likely to crack and shatter but if i have to make this stove it will be because the power has been out for some time. I could use it until the power comes back or until i am able to hunt down better bricks. THANK YOU so much for this simple yet obviously very effective stove plan!
I have watched your video several times, and enjoy it EVERY time. Thank you.

Very informative! My wife and I how always been self-reliant and this is a post that I’m going to save until I get a rocket stove up and running. Thank you very much.
Great job, consider building a concrete block bench right next to the top of the rocket stove so you can easily slide the pot onto it rather than moving it like you did.
Now I know what I will build with my leftover concrete blocks. I may try to configure an oven so I can bake. I live in a semi primitive cabin. Thank you for sharing.

Scott Hansen she will be one of the first to survive if there was a natural disaster, or the grid went permanently down.
@Bow Legged When boys are raised in group care (daycare, school), it is expedient to make them act like girls; sit quietly, act cooperatively, avoid physical exercise, etc. These boys are extremely frustrated because girls then gravitate toward male behavior; action oriented risk taking, dominating, etc.
Those men are extreme. They are the ones who REFUSED to be girls. Unfortunately, such refusal tends to be so dramatic, in order to break out of the maternal orbit, that they become law-breakers. They don't WANT anymore education since it is geared toward feminine standards.
In fact, the longer men are in formal schooling, the less male they become. Can't change a tire, fix things around the house, defend the homestead and so on.
Feminists are getting exactly what they asked for... soy boys. And NOW they realize their mistake.
Great video! Love outdoor cooking, this is the first I've heard of the rocket stove. I sooo need one of these to add to my outdoor cooking. Thanks for posting!
Look into building a portable rocket stove from 3 cans and some gravel. Easy, small, and will serve you well when you need it most... There are many vids on YT that show you how.

This is awesome i love it! will be building one this summer. Thank You!
That is WAY cheaper than using fire bricks. Awesome tips for an outdoor rocket cook stove thanks for sharing!
My grandmothers would have lived this! Great demo.
at 6:52, note the cracks in line on 2 blocks. Your blocks are failing, they hold too much moisture left outside. They may collapse suddenly with a pot of hot liquid on them. Be careful.
perhaps inserting additional coffee cans to insulate the chimney would help prevent a sudden failure?
The block turned up on end is longer which creates a stress point for the ones stacked part way on top of it......then the blocks get hot......and POP ! ! ! ! ! !
exactly, this is why that one cracked; Because the one on it's end is higher than the two sat on top of one another, creating a void beneath the top brick. I noticed that too. It's nothing to do with them holding moisture or that they're failing. They were designed to build houses.. @@gustav24-7-52
@@PrimeTime345 that's a really good idea

I think we must have seen the same plans. I am still in the middle of mine with slightly different alterations. Thanks for putting this design to the test. I would love to see an update after your long-term useage but it looks like you haven't done any videos in quite a while. Good luck in your endevers.
Very clearly explained. Its helpful to understand the process, that helps problem solving and adapting when you dont have exactly the same materials.
The can is a great solution for airflow, but i read online that the longer the chimney, the more cleanly it burns in exchange for more heat dispersion before reaching the cooking surface
Great setup. If you smear the bottom of the pressure kettle with liquid soap, it'll be way easier to wash the soot off afterwards. And if you put the kettle into a haybox right after the pressure valve whistles for the first time, you can put the fire out and save a lot of wood and go to do something else safely. Come back after a few hours and your meal will be ready waiting for you, cooking for free in the meantime. Ever since I found this out it's the only way I use my pressure kettle. Only I'm saving electricity, not wood :-)
I feel like it's 1775 and I'm watching a pioneer lady show us how to intelligently design a stove from basic materials. This is how they did it!
Earlier than that! Please!

I love how fast and easy to construct this is! You can take it down and move it when necessary and reuse the materials but sturdy enough to stand on a windy day. If the bricks crack you can buy another one or just wire it together. I don't think it's going to explode if you are using older cinder blocks and are just burning twigs. I set up a stand with cinder blocks for 3 weber BBQs that no longer have legs because they fell off from the heat. I will be restacking one end into a rocket stove like this to burn the piles of twigs and be able to set pots on it! Have wrought iron burners from old gas stoves to set on top. Reusing materials around the ranch or home is the way to go! thanks for this great design.
Old smoker restored, wood cut and split. 1915 enameled cook stove in place outside. Cabin ready hand pump and well box all tapped in. Pressure not best but free spring water on my property. Grandma taught me alot she was born in 1897. Smart old gal.
I see many comments warning against the use of concrete against high-heat applications. I won't add to them even though they are all true. My suggestion to you would be to use fire brick. They aren't very expensive and would remove any worries of explosions. Concrete explodes like a bomb when subjected to high heat, and a prolonged fire could do it.
Firebrick is $31 for 6 bricks. That's expensive.
@@nunyabiznis817 Then use regular bricks, which are way safer than concrete, although fire brick are recommended, but usually rocket stoves are not used long enough for the heat to do to regular brick what it does to concrete blocks.

This video helped me rethink some things.. all those sticks right next to the tower.. oh my.. I think I'm gona have a fire extinguisher in my area when mine becomes built. I think I will also have my sticks away enough not to be a explosive landmine in case I had to get out.. still am going to start my homestead with this stove but now I have a heads up of some variables to consider.. bricks are first.. fire extinguisher, sticks away in a metal feeding troft I have, and a long lighter and grill plate.. ok here I go!
