    Philadelphia's most dangerous street.
Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

To constantly refer to this problem, as *'Homelessness,'* implies that putting a roof over the heads of these people will solve the problem. Call it what it is: an invasion of dangerous street rats, drug addicts, and the mentally ill. Some need to go to jail. Some need to go to rehab. Some need to be cared for in institutions. Looking at this from Australia it's unbelievable. We have homelessness here too, and of course, drug issues - but this is absolutely next level. Even in the more dodgy areas of Sydney you wouldn't see so many people living in filth in the same area. Increasing rents and a lack of options have left quite a few homeless and you do see them around city streets, but this video was truly shocking. I've been to the US many times and have never considered that it could be this bad in some areas. What was most disturbing was the obvious impact that drugs have on these people - the giveaway odd movements that addicts have is unmistakeable, and there are so many of them!
Is this atypical? Are there areas like this across the US that I've just managed to avoid? The worst that I've seen was in NYC, catching a taxi from our office to the airport we went through an area with broken windows and a few cars on the street. Even then it looked better than how Kensington Ave. appears in this.

I live in the San Fernando Valley (a city north of the greater Los Angeles area, in California), and the East Valley seems to get more scuzzy all the time. Especially with the skyrocketing rents and the opioid crisis, and even worse since the pandemic. But it is nothing like Kensington. The only area I've seen in person that even came close is parts of NYC in the 80's during their crack epidemic. This video shows an area that looks like scenes from a horror movie about a post-apocalyptic plague of zombies and chaos. Tranq and fentanyl tainting the street dope supply makes the addiction cycle even more terrifying.

    Happy people don't need drugs.
Teach kids to be happy, and drug use will drop.
    It's that simple.
The statement is a bit of an oversimplification, but it does get to the heart of the matter. Drugs are often used as a way to cope with negative emotions, such as sadness, anger, and loneliness. If people can learn to be happy and content with their lives, they will be less likely to turn to drugs.
Of course, there are other factors that contribute to drug use, such as peer pressure, mental health problems, and trauma. But teaching kids how to be happy and content is a good place to start. It can help them develop the resilience they need to resist the temptation of drugs.

    See the city lights?
    See how brightly they shine?
    This city was once special,
Before the gangs, drugs and the crime.
See the children on the corner?
They are tougher than they seem.
They'll jump you like a pack of wolves,
They are not sweet, but cruel and mean.
See the old man on his front porch?
He is a lot like me.
He remembers back to happier times,
And the way things used to be.
    See the lady hanging laundry?
Her son was killed two weeks ago.
He wasn't even in a gang,
    But the bullets didn't know.
Yes, this city once was beautiful,
But now her looks are gone.
It smells and feels quite different,
It just looks and feels so wrong.
    This city once held promise,

The parents of these people failed miserably. These people should all be scooped up and detained and separated into different groups to send home or rehab or jail and mental institutions. @VaniBunnii Před 10 měsíci

@@TheSoloAsylum they have been failed actually. Look into stories of homeless drug addicts. Soft White Underbelly here in youtube does alot of interviews with people like them. And if they were able to get the proper help they needed for their mental and physical they probably would have never used drugs. But the American health and mental health care is too expensive for people of lower than average class causing these people to try to subdue their sorrows and TRUAMA with drugs. I personally started smoking weed at young age just to stop feeling the pain i was going through but once i was able to go get ACTUAL HELP and get a diagnosis my life did a 180. Although i still got prescribed medical mj im still glad i was privileged enought to get the diagnosis and counseling i need. If i or any child like me was just given up on i can assure u they will kill them selves or look for something better to try to self medicate. I dont approve of opioids. There terrible and ruin lives. But some people simply have a genetic predisposition to it or had to use opioids for some medical problem and got hooked and turned to this trash they call a drug. People like u are lucky probably. U probably feel no need to self medicate or are able to handle the beatings life gives u. Others they need that help. They need that hand to hold so things can get better. They need that counselor that will give them a game plan and a doctor that can help them. But the health system is trash and then these poor souls get hurt and lost and get looked down on bc they’re suffering and were unable to help it

*I was missed diagnose for insomnia put on 4 different benzodiazepines for almost 3 years once i decide those drug were producing more problems then solving, i went through sixteen months painful cold trukey withdrawal by myself, it comes to point where you have make decision to ever do what's necessary or eventually die from taking those poisons*
