Philadelphia's most dangerous street.
Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

It does not matter how bad the Homeless and/or the drug addiction problem is, there is no excuse for that much garbage to be just laying around everywhere. Shame on you Philadelphia or even more so the elected officials that do nothing about it.
many past videos show the crews come through and clean up, and even pressure wash the piss off everything. It all comes back in a matter of a few days. These addicts are animals.

Really? Most of their parents didn't step up.
Of course not. You're right.
To constantly refer to this problem, as *'Homelessness,'* implies that putting a roof over the heads of these people will solve the problem. Call it what it is: an invasion of dangerous street rats, drug addicts, and the mentally ill. Some need to go to jail. Some need to go to rehab. Some need to be cared for in institutions. Unless you see it for what it is, you'll never fix it.
It's still would be just patching holes. The problem is the result of the breakdown of family, traditions, relationships and values. You cannot purposefully weaken these useful institutions for decades and then be surprised when the consequences come.
A lot of them are a direct result of the Reagan administration defunding the mental institutions.
Some need to stop existing as they are too far gone...
Fair point. There is a Pattern, Maui fires and Palestine derailment. usa government is still prioritizing other countries, instead of its own people. go figure! Trying to be a world sheriff instead of looking after your people, its insane

Looking at this from Australia it's unbelievable. We have homelessness here too, and of course, drug issues - but this is absolutely next level. Even in the more dodgy areas of Sydney you wouldn't see so many people living in filth in the same area. Increasing rents and a lack of options have left quite a few homeless and you do see them around city streets, but this video was truly shocking. I've been to the US many times and have never considered that it could be this bad in some areas. What was most disturbing was the obvious impact that drugs have on these people - the giveaway odd movements that addicts have is unmistakeable, and there are so many of them!
Is this atypical? Are there areas like this across the US that I've just managed to avoid? The worst that I've seen was in NYC, catching a taxi from our office to the airport we went through an area with broken windows and a few cars on the street. Even then it looked better than how Kensington Ave. appears in this.
It's atypical, but a growing problem in certain large cities.
Love watching these vids! Keep it up
I live in the San Fernando Valley (a city north of the greater Los Angeles area, in California), and the East Valley seems to get more scuzzy all the time. Especially with the skyrocketing rents and the opioid crisis, and even worse since the pandemic. But it is nothing like Kensington. The only area I've seen in person that even came close is parts of NYC in the 80's during their crack epidemic. This video shows an area that looks like scenes from a horror movie about a post-apocalyptic plague of zombies and chaos. Tranq and fentanyl tainting the street dope supply makes the addiction cycle even more terrifying.
what about the Kings Cross area?
@@igortretsnom not even close in your worst nightmares. I’ve never seen anything remotely like this and used to frequent the cross.
I live in Europe, and I have already traveled to a lot of big cities here. I have never seen a single person so smashed on drugs. Or are they people who go out of their homes to get high in public in broad daylight?
Yeah ....sometimes one wonders where and how these people live . The biggest part is homeless though , and live in tent cities.
A big part is also some better off people who go out of their skulls and wander through such scenes out of sheer curiosity.
There are places here in Finland which look similar to what's in the video. Not as large scale though.

Happy people don't need drugs.
Teach kids to be happy, and drug use will drop.
It's that simple.
The statement is a bit of an oversimplification, but it does get to the heart of the matter. Drugs are often used as a way to cope with negative emotions, such as sadness, anger, and loneliness. If people can learn to be happy and content with their lives, they will be less likely to turn to drugs.
Of course, there are other factors that contribute to drug use, such as peer pressure, mental health problems, and trauma. But teaching kids how to be happy and content is a good place to start. It can help them develop the resilience they need to resist the temptation of drugs.

fantastic

they are so so happy
This is sad to watch. This is what doctors and pharmaceutical companies do to people and families!
No, those people need to stop playing the victim card and take responsibility for their actions. Isn't that what they used to say to advocates when they said we need more treatment programs to help crack addicts?😂
@Blaze-qe7yg u obviously have not been traumatized in your life.
Trauma happened first.

This is what happens when you leave health care to the free market. It's great for video games and luxuries, but this is too important not to nationalize and regulate

How horrible are you to care more about your reputation than about these people's lives?
The parents of these people failed miserably. These people should all be scooped up and detained and separated into different groups to send home or rehab or jail and mental institutions. Living on the street is unacceptable behavior in modern America. If you want to go camping go to a National forest where it is allowed and pick up your trash.
Please correct me if I’m wrong. You are saying law enforcement is not arresting people using this drug, weed will get someone put in jail?
this is what democracy looks like!

Still better than being sent to camp under a dictatorship

Remember kids never start smoking. Not every smoker is a drug addict, but as you see, every drug addict is a smoker.

Housing costs mean nothing for these people. These are not people with jobs, apartments, or part of a society in any way. These are roaming drug zombies leaching from every possible victim they can find, while ruining everything in their path.
These are people who have been failed and need help
@@VaniBunnii They have not been "failed" They have chosen drugs over family, friends, employment and everything else. They did this for years to end up here. I could not end up homeless if I tried. No more sob stories and excuses.
@@TheSoloAsylum they have been failed actually. Look into stories of homeless drug addicts. Soft White Underbelly here in youtube does alot of interviews with people like them. And if they were able to get the proper help they needed for their mental and physical they probably would have never used drugs. But the American health and mental health care is too expensive for people of lower than average class causing these people to try to subdue their sorrows and TRUAMA with drugs. I personally started smoking weed at young age just to stop feeling the pain i was going through but once i was able to go get ACTUAL HELP and get a diagnosis my life did a 180. Although i still got prescribed medical mj im still glad i was privileged enought to get the diagnosis and counseling i need. If i or any child like me was just given up on i can assure u they will kill them selves or look for something better to try to self medicate. I dont approve of opioids. There terrible and ruin lives. But some people simply have a genetic predisposition to it or had to use opioids for some medical problem and got hooked and turned to this trash they call a drug. People like u are lucky probably. U probably feel no need to self medicate or are able to handle the beatings life gives u. Others they need that help. They need that hand to hold so things can get better. They need that counselor that will give them a game plan and a doctor that can help them. But the health system is trash and then these poor souls get hurt and lost and get looked down on bc they’re suffering and were unable to help it

Addiction is not easy habit to break. Often times addiction starts with prescription opioids.
How can humans live like this? Is this what they dreamt their life would be?
Omg !! So so sad 😢 💔
what a sad situation

Whats the validity of thes poverty porn videos ? ? Do they help the homeless in ANY way ? I doubt it
I go back and forth on that. Yeah, it's mainly poverty porn. I agree with that. But one benefit is it helps people track the homeless in case they might be trying to find their loved one on the streets of Kensington.
Alhamdulillah I was born in Indonesia & wil never find situation like this, we strong of religion & have good spirit to life 😊😊😊
These people are all sons and daughters, aunties and uncles, brothers and sisters and some are even fathers and mothers. They are human beings with emotions, feelings and lives lost to this oblivion. All of them would swap this for a normal, mundane life if they could.

*life ain't easy, like song says " I beg your pardon never promised you rose garden " by Lynn Anderson, i understand for addicts its no longer about getting high but not getting sick from taking those poisons but there's only two options left for them, go through probably painful recovery process or eventually died from those drugs*
*I was missed diagnose for insomnia put on 4 different benzodiazepines for almost 3 years once i decide those drug were producing more problems then solving, i went through sixteen months painful cold trukey withdrawal by myself, it comes to point where you have make decision to ever do what's necessary or eventually die from taking those poisons*

Es lamentable que exista tanta gente que envenena su cuerpo, el gobierno debería de apoyar a esa gente y darle rehabilitación, debería de llevarse a toda esa gente a albergues o centros especializados.
