His wife Linda was the love of his life. His soulmate. When she died from breast cancer, it must have devastated him to the core. He wrote this song for her. Not everyone gets to experience a love like that in life, so they were both so lucky to have found each other.

Paul wrote that song for Linda at the time when the Beatles were in the process of breaking up. It was a stressful and sad time for. the song was all about how Linda helped get him through it, plus she was helping him sing his songs "Help me sing my songs, right me when I'm wrong...." AFTER the break up of the Beatles, Paul was devastated by it all and went into a deep depression. He said in interviews that he didn't want to get out of bed, or shave or do anything...here he is 29 years old and his group has broken up. HOW do you follow the Beatles, he thought. He didn't know what he was going to do. He started drinking and was just in a deep deep depression. He credits his wife Linda on pulling him out of that depression and getting him back on track. He started writing more songs and working on his second album "RAM"

When The Beatles broke up Paul was devastated and spiraled down into a dark place and his wife Linda helped him come back from that. He wrote this song for her telling her how much he loved and needed her.

Many years after her death from cancer, their daughter Stella who's a fashion designer had this song playing during one of her shows and Paul broke down sobbing. She was such a huge loss. Imagine having a love like that then losing them far too young. 💔

OMG! I swear on my grandfather that as a friend and I were listening to this song today I said, “I don’t understand why more people don’t appreciate that line - “Maybe I'm a lonely man who’s in the middle of something that he doesn't really understand.” My fave line of his solo career. He fell in love with Linda as The Beatles were breaking up. Confusing time for him. And… he played every instrument on the whole album. Genius

Yes! One of my favorite singers! Saw him live in concert at MSG/NYC some years ago! Always loved him in The Beatles too! Great voice and a great person! He is very talented, and loved Linda so much! Thank you! He has written so many beautiful songs, and some with John Lennon too! 'Yesterday' was an old favorite Paul song! His voice is definitely 'Top Tier'! Guess I like a lot of British singers! Hint! Hint!

Sir Paul was/is an Everyman. I put him on par with Billy Joel in that category. His lyrics can speak to anyone. I highly recommend the documentary series, "3-2-1 McCartney" H talks about writing with John & George. The interviewer is a former sound engineer (name escapes me, ATM). He does talk a bit about working with Linda. It is lovely.

Yes, Paul is playing all the instruments, drums included on the entire "McCartney" album which was his first solo album. He is a very good drummer and he did all the drumming on the "BAND ON THE RUN" album with Wings, in 1974, It was just Paul, his wife Linda, and Denny Laine. Their drummer and other guitarist quit the day before the band was to leave for Lagos, Nigeria to record the album.

Paul McCartney is a genius on a number of levels. People like to do a pissing contest between him and Lennon, but I think both were amazing in their own right, lyrically and musically. And remember, none of the Beatles were able to read music. They were never classically trained on anything. During the Beatles, their producer George Martin (for my money the true fifth Beatle) was able to help guide them into the music they were interested in, but they still had that instinctual knowledge when it came to songs. All four Beatles were magnificent, but I think McCartney was probably the most versatile one.

That line "a lonely man who's in the middle of something that he doesn't really understand" is about the time when the Beatles were starting to break up. It's all about the love of his life Linda, the mother of all his children, and how he feels about her and how she helped him get through that very dark time for him. She was his strength at the time. If she hadn't died from breast cancer in 1998 they would still be together today, Here is a LIVE performance of it from 1976 czcams.com/video/yxTdz3hw9Xo/video.html DID YOU LOOK AT ALL THE PHOTOS IN THE VIDEO? THAT"S PAUL AND HIS WIFE LINDA AND THEIR FIRST CHILD TOGETHER, MARY, along with Linda's daughter from her first marriage, HEATHER, the blonde little girl.
