    Tom,
    Another great video. And yes on the monetization part. For me it is nice to not feel like I have a responsibility to produce a video. I also just do it for fun. Thank you again. I look forward to more of your videos.

    Fantastic video update. I have had my PowerPro motor for 2 years now with no problems. the longest I have continuously run it was half hour jointing and rip operation. I have used it at 10k rpm for short routing operations and love the performance. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Tom, I really enjoyed your video. I appreciate your willingness to share your experience with your Shopsmith and do it in manor that anyone watching can take away useful information. Your presentation style is excellent for sharing this type of information. I look forward to each new video you share. Thank you!

      They don’t run the TV ads like they used to. But they still make machines and full compliment of service parts supporting machines back to the 1950’s.

    I have a PowerPro head stock as well and my main concern is whether the membrane buttons will last "long enough". I'll get back to you in about 30 years.
    Another thing I always get reminded of is when I see CZcams videos about making a drill press add on table. Pretty well all the functions come with the SS in drill press mode, including rack and pinion table movement. It also has what I think is a superior depth stop adjustment system.

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Před rokem +1

      I too wonder about the buttons, but it's just a re-labeled Nova DVR XP control panel. So hopefully they hold up over time based on Nova's engineering.
      True about the drill press table and depth stop. Also true all the way back to the Greenies. The machines that came before the Mark 7 were pretty darn good too and any one who owns one should fell pretty luck!

      I am always amazed when I see a CZcams video and every single tool from the table saw to the screw driver is DeWalt or Rigid. That's dedication!

    I enjoyed the video, just think your experience was not an isolated one. I purchased a Mark 7 through the Lowes program in 2021. When I received it, the legs had similar issues to your SS. Also tables were assembled off level, Tubes were less than shining new. While SS did send me new tubes. Other issues continued to crop up. I elected to return it even though I never used it, I was disappointed with many quality issues. You failed to mention that the 90 day return period offer can cost you up to $800 to return or even more depending on location, even though the SS is sent to you defective. While you did mention that you had costs to go pick up a new machine I think it should be pointed out that SS had no costs incurred to replace a defective machine. I would like to point out that SS does pick up the cost of returning a headstock to them that is not working properly and repairs it under warranty. As I had the experience of returning my Power Pro headstock bought in 2020 for repair and the shipping was paid by SS in both directions.

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for sharing you experience Anthony. I was on the brink of returning for a full refund. So I know how you feel. I was not going to fix all the issue one by one disassembling, shipping off, waiting, then re assembling. Not worth it. My hope it that they get their QA process in order.

    Tom, I used a logo panel from my new Mark V 520 as a photo background for my old 510, when I sold it on CraigsList! It worked fantastically… I sold it in two days. Even though there were three others for sale within 100 miles.
    If you did lathe turning…. You’d love that Reversible headstock. Sanding, interior bowl cutting and burnishing options abound with the ability to reverse direction.
    Glad I see you made it over the infant mortality hump… let’s hope there are none in youth or adult service.
    PS… the overheated motor. Could running in reverse affect that? Do the cooling fins circulate air equally well? Is the power draw the same in both directions? Just curious…

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Před rokem +1

      Honestly not sure if there is a cooling fan or not. One day I'll get more time for turning.

    Thanks for sharing. My father bought a lot of Shopsmiths in the 1970s. In fact, about two or three years ago he picked up a Mark V for free locally. I have limited shop space. How big of a jointer and planer and band saw attachment can you get for your new Mark VII? How good is the dust collection on the ShopSmith relative to other dedicated tools?
    By the way, thanks for pointing out your non-monetized approach. It helps to know this. Do you have any suggestions on video editing? I do a lot of woodworking, blog about it. I could probably film it (did film one video but never published). It's the video editing that has slowed me down. Don't know how and after spending a day in front of the computer at work, I want to do as little in front of a computer in my off time as possible.

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Před rokem

      Hi Joe Thanks for watching and commenting. The capacities for are Jointer - 4 inch, Planer 12 inch, and Bandsaw 11 inch. If you want to see how I make use of my space you might like my shop tour video. czcams.com/video/ZsrCnakd_lY/video.html
      I find dust collection to be decent. Sure there are some stand alone tools that are might be better but there are a great many that are mush worse.
      I use Adobe Premiere for editing. At one time I used a free software called ShotCut. Any editing software requires a learning curve. And I spend several hours preparing and uploading each video.
      You could record a CZcams Short, which are 60 second videos. If you have a well planned and rehearsed 60 second message, then technically you don't need to edit it. Just record and upload.

    The one from many YTers that makes me laugh is "Hi everyone, Vevor/other vendor sent me this mag drill/other thing for review. I'm not paid anything by Vevor/other vendor, etc etc". Umm, yes you are, they just sent you a free $400 mag drill/other thing so you ARE paid and therefore your review is not valid.

    Quick question: What is the tallest shaper cutter you can safely use on the spindle that fits the speed increaser? Shopsmiths' website doesn't tell me the working length of the spindle.

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Před rokem

      James, I believe the tallest cutter on the speed increased spindle and the standard shaper arbor is 1 3/8 inches. The nut has to be at least flush With the top of the the shaft according to documentation. I will verify this and post again.

I currently have a little shop set up in my basement and don't "need" anything else until I can get into a bigger space
