Sorry to moan but I pay around £3.50-£4.00 on eBay U.K. free shipping for 50 anti static frosted sleeves and don’t like anyone promoting expensive sleeve like over £15 for only like 25 when the ones I get are perfect and cost me under £10 to replace all my inner sleeves around 200-300

Like many of you , I'm in the ( slow ) process of re-sleeving my entire collection , inner and outer ! Here's a point that needs mentioning : clean your records properly before re-sleeving, no point spending good money on sleeves , only to stick dirty records in ! Invest in a vinyl cleaning machine....it's worth it , the results are worth every cent !
    Happy collecting 👍

If you have a substantial collection of vinyl rotting away (like i did), these are totally worth checking out. They gave me a pretty decent discount on a very large order. Thanks Frank for having Mike on your channel and thank-you Mike for the shout-out.
    Mike:
I know you know how I feel.
Your outer sleeves are the #1 sleeves that I don't mind saying are the best. Forget the rest. Other company's had years to create a better outer sleeve but never invested any time. They got comfortable. You stepped up to the plate and delivered a better option for every level of record collector.
Every video I do now, I try to always mention your sleeves as my sleeves of choice in my video descriptions.
I been using your sleeves for almost a year now and my entire collection are using them. They still look like the day I sleeved them.
I can not see any outer sleeve ever coming on the market that will be better. You sealed this one up my friend. 😉

I like those dual pocket. That is how I store mine vinyl as well. I put the jacket in then anything that might be inside...such as original vinyl sleeves or catalogs, posters what have you..then I place the vinyl in a static free sleeve then put that on the backside. As far as double albums, I do basically the same but I put whatever content there is onside in the middle of the gate fold and the vinyl in two separate sleeves and again put them in the back, usually side one out.

Thanks for this video. As for PVC, you are right. However, it seems the PVC that is produced under the so called “Reach” regulations, do not transmit hazardous gasses. Another interesting experience I had, is the records that were stored for decades and had their jackets in PVC sleeves, only showed evidence of migrating chemicals if they had been in the jacket with a lined paper sleeve. No matter what the material the liner was made of, those records were not damaged at al. How different the records were that came out that were stored with just a paper sleeve without any kind of liner. The gasses from the old PVC sleeves did attack the record, these gasses even managed to pass through the jacket. And to make it even more complicated, all the above doesn’t mean your records are always damaged over time if stored in PVC outer sleeves. It has to do with storage conditions, temperature, humidity levels, ventilation and so on. I have stored several junk records without any protection directly in new PVC, so PVC that is manufactured under the Reach specifications. Time will tell........First impressions are promising. No evidence of sny damage at all, whereby the PVC did not loose any of its original flexibility and clarity. So no discolourations (that brownish color) or cracking at the seams. The records have been in storage for at least two years. However, if you do have records in storage that are in the old formulation PVC sleeves, check your records immediately and discard the old sleeves. Better yet, have them recycled. Recycled PVC in its purest form can be treated with new additives that do no harm, both health wise and for the protection of your records. Greetings from Hekelingen, Holland. Willem.

All of my 12” records are cleaned then put into Nagaoka Discfile 102 Anti Static 12" Vinyl Inner Record Sleeves then put back inside the sleeve that comes with the record. I also use Big Fudge High-Density Polyethylene outer sleeves, which are completely clear and will fit doubles and some triples. Records well protected and easy to slide in and out with static build up or scratching. Covers look great and easy to slide in and out of shelve storage without damage.

  • @livinaftermidnight9651

Hey Frank, I change out those inner sleeves as soon as I possibly can. I've saved them in the album jacket to keep the record "original" but they make no more contact with the record itself. I have a couple packs of MOFI sleeves to go through then I purchased a test pack from a company called Kirmuss Audio. Got them half price at a customer appreciation night at the store I do my audio shopping at. Once those are gone I'll have to check out the inner sleeves from Vinylstoragesolutions. When I first started collecting vinyl again a few years ago I found some acid-free paper sleeves on Amazon that got great reviews. I don’t know how good those are compared to these plastic ones but I’m done with new vinyl and have all the old ones I need. Perhaps I’ll upgrade to these plastic ones one day. I could afford the cheapest ones I guess. But I’ll probably just stay with what I have. Even my oldest records which are 34 years have held up well in their original sleeves. But again, I’m not an audiophile, just a rocker :)

I think it is all perspective.... I have records I bought brand new from the 70's in paper sleeves , no problems other than the paper sleeves are yellowing ... I bet if you put a paper sleeve manufacturer on... he will tell you the horrors of plastic sleeves ....

Here in the UK, HMV only sell clear PVC lp sleeves with a flap. Whilst they are nice and clear they do not sell sleeves for gatefold/double lps. They sell them for 75p each.

Oh wow. You have the Lucifer's Friend first album. I heard it on YT and Spotify not long ago. Love it. John Lawson sounds like Ronnie Dio on the first track. As regards to some of the white very cheap inner sleeves. They also have a tendancy to rip and come apart. More money for the labels though. The only PAT Testing I knew of was the testing of electronical equipment used in the workplace due to safety.

It would be nice to move back to keeping the LP inside the sleeve till it is inside the playback unit in that you slide sleeve and all into the playback unit till a click is heard then you withdraw the sleeve then it starts playing till the end of that side then to play the other side you slide the sleeve back in till it clicks then withdraw it then flip it then slide it back in till a click is heard then you slide the sleeve out and that side starts playing when it stops playing then you slide the sleeve back in till a click is heard then you withdraw the sleeve, you would not need the whole of the CED machine just a player that will play LPs that are enclosed in the sleeve akin to a CED cleeve, #12voltvide I know you had to repair many of these units but they were light years ahead of anything that came before.

The worst paper sleeves are in import pressings. White thick stiff paper inner sleeves I change immediately. I will rip those away from the record rather than slide the record out and replace them because of you rip them off and take the record out then you avoid potential scuffs/scratches.

Great video, Frank! I should definitely shift more of my records away from their original paper sleeves. What I have done with many records is clean them and put them into new plastic inner sleeves, but I've often slid the plastic sleeves into the paper sleeves thinking that the paper sleeves added some reinforcement or support for the records to prevent warping. However, in reality, the paper sleeves probably make no difference in that regard. Thoughts?
Another option is I put records in new plastic sleeves, but keep the original inner sleeve sitting side by side with the new plastic sleeve, particularly as you mentioned, if the inner sleeves had artwork, liner notes, etc. I've often wondered if collectors care about the original plain paper sleeve remaining with the album or whether that even matters (not that I do any selling yet, but it was something I had considered)?
Any thoughts or advice, Frank or Mike, regarding keeping the paper sleeves for any purpose other than campfire kindling? Will that paper dust impact the record if it's not directly coming into contact with the record itself when it is inserted in a plastic sleeve? Thanks.

Thanks. This may well solve one of my problems with single pocket sleeves. Completely agree on white paper inners, I just toss them. I am a bit conflicted about other inner sleeves, like black paper, or paper with plastic lining. Do you consider that "original" therefore should be retained as part of the original record? I am also very concerned about the effect of the pulp covers with lots of acid in them onto liner notes, booklets, posters etc. I put everything into separate inner sleeves (Mofi so far), but eventually the amount of additional sleeve material makes it hard to put everything Into the original album cover. Love the dual slot system for that. May well switch my entire collection to dual slots. Only about 400 records, but still a pain in the butt.

I didn't mind the sleeves without the window too much, but the ones with windows like the ones in the box you showed were always a problem, tearing when you tried to get the record back in. I have some LP's from the 1950's- a few from London that had a kind of half-glossy thin paper, and some from USA that were actually wax paper. What about those? And how about the plastic inner sleeves in some like Decca subsidiaries and even Tico? (only a couple of those survived.)

I still don't understand the benefit of dual pocket for non-gatefolds. Can't you just slide the record behind the jacket and achieve the same effect ?

    • @adampeace279
      @adampeace279 Před 4 lety +1

gowanis absolutely. However, with the duel pocket, once you seal the bottom with the tape, the record is then “completely sealed” in the sleeve as opposed to one open end on standard outer sleeves, giving you the ultimate in jacket protection. These sleeves would be more ideal to use on your “more valuable” records.
