  • When we visited Yosemite National Park, we wanted to take our family on a hike they would not soon forget. We planned to take a one way journey from the awe inspiring Glacier Point down to the Yosemite Valley, traversing both the epic Panorama Trail as well as the spectacular Mist Trail. But since the shuttle system was not running, we had to jump through some serious hoops to make this happen.

    After parking at Curry Village, we would take a 30 minute bus ride to El Portal, followed by a one hour privately chartered van ride - just to get us to Glacier Point so we could take our planned epic hike back down to Curry Village.
    As the journey ended, we took note that a water fill up station is not available until 9 miles or 4 ½ hours into the hike. Under moderate conditions, plan to take at least 72 oz of water per person. That’s 16 oz per hour - and more than the 40 oz we had. The hike, however, was everything we hoped for: from insanely picturesque views to hugging legendary waterfalls, this is how to experience Yosemite. But make no mistake: this mostly downhill trek has a strenuous uphill portion and tricky, wet downhill steps. But the rewards are truly epic!

    Awesome thanks for your video. 30 years ago, I took a 3 week class in the Sierra's with out biology teacher at Vanguard University. He said this is a good hike and go for it. I was 23 years old and said, Ok. He did not tell us how long the hike was. Lol. Never knew what it was called but found it now. Beautiful!

    Wow. What an amazing hike you managed to do. Have visited 15 of the national parks. Rocky Mt will always be my first love because of 40 return visits. However I can say without a doubt that I think Yosemite is the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. When you come thru the tunnel you are awestruck by the beauty ahead. You have managed to see so many of the special features from above. Kudos to all of you for doing all this at an age when you can enjoy the hiking opportunities. I am 71 so a bit limited in my capabilities. Enjoyed it thru your eyes. Thanks so much.

      Rocky Mountain definitely impressed us. We will be returning - and hopefully getting to Sky Pond without snow to our waist. ;-) Colorado has so much to offer - in 2020 we visited Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Sapphire Point, and the Royal Gorge (bridge, train, and rafting). But Yosemite is indeed filled with so many views that take your breath away. It was just great to have the opportunity to hike among them. Thanks so much for your comment.

      That’s exactly what we thought. People throw around the term “epic”, but for us it truly was an epic experience. Thanks for the comment. We appreciate your feedback.

    Great video! Nice hike! I've hiked all these trails many, many times, but I never get tired of them. Can't wait to see the waterfalls this summer - they're going to be epic!

      There are few hikes we use the term “epic”, but this one is deserving of it. We hope you get a chance to give it a try! Thanks for commenting.

    sawyer squeeze water filter is what i use. the regilar one not the mini. the mini plugs fast. lol... that misty trail going up is rough. going down is totally brutal. steep and exposed. should have went down the john muir to happy isles. you see both falls as well and its an easy shaded trail. i was finishing up a 52 mile week hike when i went down. wrecked my quads for a few days. 😅😅

      52 miles, huh? Quite the accomplishment. I'm impressed. Thanks for the tip. I do indeed think a squeeze filter is the way to go - and we have already purchased one. Misty trail is tough - but still worth it! Rest your quads and get ready for your next adventure. Keep up the good work!

      We took the hike on June 1st of this year. It was a Tuesday, so a little lighter on the crowds . The road to Glacier Point had opened only weeks prior. The waterfalls were practically in full force. And it had not reached peak summer heat (but it was warm enough!). It was a great time to go. Thanks for your question.

      Cris&Cale thanks. Yes, does look like the waterfalls were in full force. We hiked the mist trail late July of this year and there was not nearly as much water, so was curious.

    What private van shuttle did you use? Their phone number? Yosemite still has no date for shuttle service in 2022.

    • @criscale3667
      @criscale3667  Před 2 lety

      The shuttle we chartered was from IncAdventures (415) 642-7378 at info@incadventures.com or www.incadventures.com. Not cheap, but they delivered exactly what they promised.

    If you hike much at all, buy a filter for your water needs.
