    Thank you Professor Davis! Please continue making these instructual videos! Just an avid chem enthusiast here, but with very basic chem knowledge you make it easier to understand. Wish I had taken a differnt path 20 years ago...

      my pleasure! I love making these videos and reaching all people with an interest in chemistry! You may want to check out my courses with The Great Courses as well.

      Hah. I have been meaning to buy that set of dvds for a while and had no idea that you were the professor teaching them. Cool. Will buy them asap. Again all the best. Thanks

      @@aa1.5 Great to hear! In the Great Courses/Wondrium productions I'm a little bit lighter weight, a little bit less wrinkled and A LOT less hairy, but a swear it is me in the videos X-D Working with the teaching company was one of the greatest experinces of my young career. I really hope you enjoy what we were able to produce together. Best wishes - RD

    Why are "iso" compounds so named?

    • @ChemSurvival
      @ChemSurvival  Před 10 měsíci +2

      "iso" means "same as". so "isobutane" for example literally means "same as butane". Of course, iso compounds really aren't exactly the same as their normal alkane counterparts! In naming hydrocarbons, chemists typically ise 'iso' to refer to hydrocarbons that have a methyl branch at the penultimate carbon. So "isohexane" is the same as 2-methylpentane, "isoheptane" is the same as 2-methylhexane, "isooctane" is the same as 2-methylheptane, and so on.... more on this on the next video in the series!!!
