I was just 9 years old when Ben Wilson got killed, and i could remember it like yesterday... you could have sworn the President got killed, it was a sad time in the City for at least 15 years you would hear his name ehco in the streets. Ben Wilson heart will forever beat in Chicago... never to be forgotten.
30 for 30 on ESPN brought me here. This 46 year old white dude soaked the pillow watching that documentary... Every Chicago HS should spend 90 minutes a year showing that special to let kids know to stay on track. Watching the documentary all I was thinking is Ben was KG and KD before KG and KD
" Fantastic player ! Extremely Smart on The Court !! Saw him a lot in the 80's in Chicago. Family member played with Him @ Simeon. #25. Forever. 80's Great Era in Chicago High School "
I was a freshman in H.S when the tragedy went down. I can remember it was solemn in the classrooms. The new school year had just begun i believe. After all these decades, still, what a senseless....pitiful thing to have happened.
Man the kid was good and his jumo shot was just beautiful could had one the greats and I just found about last after watchin espn 30/30 flim would have to see him and mj one on one. Rip bru
tbone24100 Gather's life was cut short. Ironically I don't think he actually ever planned on going to the NBA but he would get a career in accounting or something like that.
this truly is a moving story and so sad. it really touched me watching the espn 30 for 30 on his story. would have been amazing to see what he would have been able to achieve at the next levels. but to be fair and object he was only in high school. some people actig like he would have been the greatest ever based off of 3 years in high school. its just sad we didnt get a chance to see
I wish I could've seen how good he was. He was a great player but he was so humble and would've made a good father. One of my goals is to go to Simeon high school to see all of his stuff around it and go to his grave, ect. #History
Yep, size...handles and also was ahead of Jordan in that Nike camp of stars of best players across the country after that camp he was rated #1 player in the country...When MJ was at that camp as Junior as well, he was unknown , Ben wasn't unknown as Junior in that camp.

I went to Paul Robeson and Ben used to come watch our games he was the tallest person In building but he was very kool.
he will live forever .
Reminds me of Reggie Miller, with a few Jordan and Magic like qualities. RIP Benji.
MaximumPower01 I agree with you
I was thinking the same thing about Reggie

Benji passed before I was born, but that boy was a star. If only he lived...
" Knew him very well/ Chicago. & not just
Saying that. Brother was a Teammate of his!! Outstanding player of what was Coming !! "

the sky was certainly the limit looking at his skill set along with his size, grace, and body control.
Ever since hearing this story I will never forget Benji. God rest his beautiful soul.

The real 🐐
Him, Len Bias, also Reggie Lewis would have changed basketball forever.
Len Bias would've been the greatest small forward of all time.
Maybe also Hank Gathers....
tbone24100 Gather's life was cut short. Ironically I don't think he actually ever planned on going to the NBA but he would get a career in accounting or something like that.

Ok ben number one all day
Benji got a peer jump shot should have it on 2k......RIP
He put Simeon on his back
I wish I could've seen how good he was. He was a great player but he was so humble and would've made a good father. One of my goals is to go to Simeon high school to see all of his stuff around it and go to his grave, ect. #History
Dude could of made it to the NBA!!
Cameron Ortiz Of course he would've made it to the league and been an NBA legend.
Thanks for putting this up :)
If Benji was alive he will be like Magic Johnson, LeBron James and the black Larry Bird.
Jumpshot over Magic & LeBron.
He was so good of a player i didnt even know about him till my cuzin told me its sad he died at such a young age
Smart amd Skilled R.I.P
Didn't deserve it, poor fella! Couldn't even show the world what his greatness could have ended up being.
Stop senseless acts of violence!
He was chicagos key to promise
I truly believe he wouldve challeged Jordan for that goat spot. Then Kobe came. Those 3 would be goats.
It would have been great to see him develop and play on fighting illi with nick kendal kenny and Markus wow with Bardo at point
Well it works
died two years before another prodigy, len bias
ben wilson, len bias, prime healthy sabonis & prime petrovic in a decent team. their absence helped MJ become GOAT
Zion up next
Just imagine if him and Earl the Goat was in the NBA
G.O.A.T. Benji/Len Bias A.K.A. Frosty
R.i.p Ben wilson
Smart amd Skilled R.I.0

And to think Kobe could've played against him. He would've been in like his 9th or 10th year in kobes rookie season

Josh It's a possibility.
Josh He wasn't a star? I'm pretty sure he was a high school basketball star.
Yep, size...handles and also was ahead of Jordan in that Nike camp of stars of best players across the country after that camp he was rated #1 player in the country...When MJ was at that camp as Junior as well, he was unknown , Ben wasn't unknown as Junior in that camp.
Benji was very gifted and had Jordan like qualities, but MJ is the best.
well missed
I just watched the documentary and cried and thats just BS how he died if he didnt he'd probably be better than MJ
Half moon backboards
What if he became a bust I would be so sad
I don't think so. The 30 for 30 on ESPN demonstrated he had superior work ethic. He was destined to be a legend and would've never taken anything less
Mu uncles still rave about Benji...
r.i.p ur the best not mj
