Neo's (Keanu Reeves) initiation into the world of the enlightened begins as the crew starts the process of disconnecting him from the Matrix.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
What if virtual reality wasn't just for fun, but was being used to imprison you? That's the dilemma that faces mild-mannered computer jockey Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) in The Matrix. It's the year 1999, and Anderson (hacker alias: Neo) works in a cubicle, manning a computer and doing a little hacking on the side. It's through this latter activity that Thomas makes the acquaintance of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who has some interesting news for Mr. Anderson -- none of what's going on around him is real. The year is actually closer to 2199, and it seems Thomas, like most people, is a victim of The Matrix, a massive artificial intelligence system that has tapped into people's minds and created the illusion of a real world, while using their brains and bodies for energy, tossing them away like spent batteries when they're through. Morpheus, however, is convinced Neo is "The One" who can crack open The Matrix and bring his people to both physical and psychological freedom. The Matrix is the second feature film from the sibling writer/director team of Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski, who made an impressive debut with the stylish erotic crime thriller Bound.

Many years later, I now understand the mirror substance gradually covering Neo. It's in fact the gelatinous substance he was immersed in, in the pod, a substance he never felt because he was deeply asleep. The more he started to get awake, to more the substance "revealed" itself to his real senses. It's masterful writing right there.

OtherworldlyEntity87 Neo is me, the movie, everything makes sense, my whole life I've felt this mirror presence, that the world around me isn't right, reflecting everything exactly the opposite, a lot of times there is this feeling of being disconnected from the real and instead plugged into some kind of computer network. Also the chakras are those connections that keep me plugged in, most likely these have the connections on my back, exactly how the movie describes.
You can do it really easily on most DAWs!
Take your sample and run it through a bitcrusher, lower the resolution and sample rate and bingo!

I finally understand this scene. The red pill blocks his input output signal, effectively killing his virtual self. But before he dies they locate his real body and use the earpiece (phone) to jack him out into his real body in the real world. Hence the dial up sound.This is why the machine grabs him analyses him and sees that he has no imput output signal. So he must be dead right? This is why they flush him trough the drain. Thoughts?
and the athlete guy in the animatrix who self awake because of over fatigue? he has an output signal and when docbot analyzes him he still has it and it electrocutes him back into the matrix
If he had no input/output signal, then Neo would just have been unconscious during the whole process and not been freaking out. What I think the red pill was designed to do though, was to act as a "tracer" inside the matrix. Something to differentiate Neo from the rest of the people in the matrix, so that they could identify what "pod" he is stored in. Once they know what pod he is stored in, they then know where to look once he is ejected from the system. They probably did have to "glitch" the pod though, in order to make the system think that Neo was dying/dead. As a dying host would be like a dead battery, which they would then just discard. So i think you're right about the part that, the system considered him dead or "malfunctioning", why they had to flush him

I remember the first time I saw the Matrix (I was already an adult)... This scene scared the crap out of me, because that sound that Neo makes as the mirror goes down his throat used to show up in my nightmares as a kid, when they fell apart. That exact noise...

I saw this in theaters when I was 6 and I’m still in shock lol.

Uh God, the Matrix has some of the tightest sound effects I've heard next to the StarWars 1, Dark Knight and any Edger Wright film.

The whole scene is a metaphor for childbirthing, from the viewpoint of the baby. You're OK, then your body starts not working right, and then you start feeling cold and suffocated, until you give in your first breath. Pretty poetic for someone who lived his entire life in an artificial womb.

"Turns out to be one of the multitudes of dream realities we are all participating in" No. In the movie that reality outside the Matrix is the "Actual reality". I can understand that the reality we're in could very well be a simulation, since it is "subjective". But to be simple, the most real of realities would be the one outside the Matrix in this movie. Considering people have a weird feeling in the Matrix, but not outside the matrix about its authenticity.
