Bellingham has to play as a box to box midfielder, getting involved in defensive duties - he's not a 10 or a left midfielder and he doesn't have the first touch and passing game to gel with the ball players. This would give us some actual width on the left.
Kane has to play as a 10 behind a striker - or not at all.
Mainoo and Foden are genuine ball players - we need those kind of guys in midfield - Rice is a tough watch at this level.

England certainly have the luck of the Irish in this tournament. That was never a penalty, yes, the defender's foot was high but not dangerous and the contact was made by Kane kicking the defender's foot. Looks like England are going to win the tournament by playing 45 mins of football in total, go figure.

What bitterness? Everyone agrees that England went back to their old defensive ways after the first half. And once again, it was not pretty to watch. Why are you fans so thin skinned and cannot accept honest criticism for what it is? On Tuesday they criticized the French performance particularly in the second half. And today they did the same for England. It’s not that complicated. I see no bias here. The bias is with the fans who think their team must not be criticized and are always comparing what is said about their team as opposed to other teams.

In all seriousness, this whole narrative about “deserving” to win or lose needs to categorically stop. Football is all about results, period. Particularly knockout tournaments. The social media highlight reel age has created this false narrative about players, coaches, and teams performing to unrealistic highlight reel standards that don’t match reality. Highlight reels are categorically not how actual matches and competitions are played and never have been.

I usually agree with the idea of "pleasing your fans" by playing beautiful football on the club level. I think if you are watching your team for an entire season, tens of games, it helps a lot if what you are watching is actually entertaining. On the national level however, I don't buy it for a second. If your national team is playing at most seven or eight important games every two years in a knockout tournament (Euors and world cups), all that matters is going deep in the competition and giving yourself a chance of actually winning it.

Wow. The panel absolutely ignored the penalty. The English announcers were pretty much raging at the penalty, but said they would take it. I do get why the penalty would be given, but I see a scenario where the penalty could also be revoked.
I think the penalty was very suspect. The rules need to be more consistent going forward. It is debatable, but what are defenders expected to do now? Not challenge? Cut off their hands? Why not just remove defenders entirely. This tournament has had some odd calls. Cucurella's handball, Anderson's handball, disallowed goals here and there, this situation.
Obviously the supporters of England won't be complaining. I wasn't complaining about Anderson's handball, but we got to be fair and call a spade a spade. The rules need a proper evaluation.
