  • Black Lives Matter Protests UK - Police descend on the crowd in Riot gear 6th June 2020
Once again yesterday was a mostly peaceful protest of tens of thousands of people against racism. We had an incredible day protesting for #BlackLivesMatter!
Towards the end of the day, protests were disrupted by some trouble outside Downing Street and the police used this to come in heavy-handed and demoralise protesters. Of course, this is what you will see in the news and on social media.
Well, I was there on the ground and saw the whole thing transpire. It was a 99.9% peaceful crowd but I saw what I believe to be the first bottle being thrown by a smirking teenager who then ran the other way while the crowd lambasted him for throwing things. This was just after police attempted to arrest somebody.
Shortly after the tensions had heightened but protesters remained peaceful chanting hands up don't shoot at downing street. Unfortunately, a couple of people threw flares and bottles as tensions continued to rise and police marched in minutes later on horseback like they'd been waiting for this. As people threw things others attempted to install calm including myself with chants of "don't give them an excuse".
The initial clash was pretty scary, with screams heard as police marched their line of horses straight through the crowd in an attempt to disperse them. They then kettled the innocent protesters who were cold and wet from the storm, many of them not much older than 18, until nearly 1am. Being stood to one side by the Downing Street barriers the police line did not extend to push people including myself into the crowd, so I was able to leave around 7pm.
Here's a video of the events which I think is a better perspective than the clips you will see on the news • Police on horseback de...

I know right. Its not aggressive or brutality its them on horseback moving through a crowd and as you see people move. I also love how this guy says “we haven’t done nothing only two people” and then you see a lone horse running away
