A Yoga Sequence to Build Strength for Arm Balances

  • There is a common misconception that arm balancing and inversions rely solely on upper body strength, when in reality, these postures mostly rely upon linking breath, gaze, and the bandhas, or locks, which give the body lift and direction. In this short sequence with Jai Sugrim, you'll experience some basic principles of finding lift in the postures through eka hasta bhujasana, a one legged arm balance, and build slowly up to crow pose. If it doesn't feel easy right away, don't worry! These postures are about consistent practice, and dedication.

    He explained very well. Just that if he needs to touch the student so much to emphasize his teachings then he probably should get a male student

      He can touch her all he wants if there is consent. Plus, body contact is common in teaching yoga, get a grip.

      How much hands-on has been a constant controversy in yoga and watching this made ME uncomfortable. There is an imbalance of power in a teacher/student relationship or with an older, more experienced person/younger, less experienced person. To give full consent that power should be balanced. He needs to cool it, or as Silent Bliss said, get a male student.

      His assists helped provide strength, guidance, and support for his student. He was not at all creepy. He shared some really great info. The only complaint I would have is if my teachers did not assist me enough. Those who do not know, judge.

    Good one, well explained and good flexibility. But it’s creeping me how much he is touching the student. I am a regular yoga practitioner and student for 6 years and have not seen the need for the teacher to do this. Plus this student seems to know her stuff. So why is he touching ??? 🤮

    • @YogiliciousP
      @YogiliciousP Před 4 lety +25

      @@warrobotsazuredragon4791 NOT “kinda,” he IS excessively touchy. He does NOT need to so frequently touch her body everywhere. It looks slimy & predatory. It’s completely UNNECESSARY. ALL of what he wants to “emphasize” could be done using skilled vocal directions/instructions. IF he needs to further emphasize and lacks the words, he could direct the student’s/audiences’ gaze with pointing (on her/his own body) w/out the touch; if it’s a position your here direction he could still guide without physical touch. Even if those two have a preestablished romanic/sexual relationship he should NOT touch as such to demo as this wolfy touch shouldn’t occur btwn everyday student-teacher.

    • @YogiliciousP
      @YogiliciousP Před 4 lety +7

      Aside from this particular man’s creeper touch, yoga teachers shouldn’t touch in general. Physical touch adds a force the student’s body will push back on (basic irrefutable physics, Newton's third law!), which engages muscles that shouldn’t participate-smtgh important for any muscularly active pose that requires alignment.

    • @YogiliciousP
      @YogiliciousP Před 4 lety +2

      Inappropriately touching, as this man seems to be doing, makes it more difficult for other yoga instructors who use non creepy touch to touch in the small cases where touch can be valid and useful. Potential injury aside, crap like this man’s actions can make it more difficult for yoga teachers to teach, particularly for the male teachers.

    • @rentagein6195
      @rentagein6195 Před 4 lety +7

      As a regular Yoga student, I did not find anything inappropriate about his touching. He is simply touching the spots that need attention in various poses. Yoga teachers do not carry gender sensitivity baggage, as Yoga goes much deeper than the external differences between men and women.

    Gross,, nobody really wants their yoga teachers hands all over them all the time like this-- you should re think your teaching style,, physical adjustments are fine but this endless touchy feels crap is disgusting frankly,.

    • @tammysam9862
      @tammysam9862 Před 3 lety +2

      as a yoga teacher, I have no issues with his adjustments. You can tell that they know each other well. He probably does not do this with new students as obviously not everyone likes being touched including men however he is teaching a one on one. An experienced teacher can correct and fix your posture by feeling that movement however in a group glass a teacher does not have time to correctly align everyone and every single move however thats part of his job. Usually they will ask you if you have any issues with alignment touching but you can tell they are both used to each other.

      lol it is a very short clip on how to strengthen your practice it isn't meant to be your whole yoga session. You obviously googled strengthening so when I watch something I don't want to be watching a million other stretches in between as it is a waste of my time. I rather him be straight to the point as this is only added to my yoga session. just stop the clip to get into the pose if needed until you are familiar with it. I didn't come here to watch her do cat/cow for 5 minutes until I finally get to see what I am looking for as I find that super annoying.
      The girl is obviously already warmed up and he is showing you how to get into strengthening arm balances. exactly as what you searched.
