It’s a valid question that keeps recurring. Mbeki said it was clear that ANC was loosing its way & its internal quality control mechanism failing when people like Ace Magashule were elected as Chair of provinces and he was determined that such characters should not be elevated to Premiers of Provinces. The same charge has been made against Ramaphosa by RET forces that he used money to get into position… they claim he was not elected by the people but selected by the owners of capital blah blah. They feign amnesia that Ramaphosa has a history of defeating Zuma right from 1991.
Again Mbeki says it’s better to have fewer but well informed and committed members in ANC - a small tent. Quality leaders can emerge from such, not the popularity contests of recent years. Post 1994 and with increasing unemployment a lot of people joined politics and in ANC in particular to feather their nests.

What is there to comment? That is not a particularly new position held by Mbeki. What Mbeki has not done is start a new party or campaign for it. When COPE broke off he distanced himself from it and did not endorse it or traverse the country promoting it. Zuma is the face of this new MK party… you can’t be member of two political parties more so if that other party is not part of the alliance.

Thank you very much Xoli and Mr Makwetla in this video, as Xoli was asking intelligent questions, while Mr Makwetla's answers were so intriguing but so bloody interesting and intelligent enough for him not to put himself in danger. As i am not going to blame the guy who commented by saying "what is this man talking about". All or most of Mr Makwetla's answers were so intriguing, but meant everything he mentioned in his answers. After listening to all his answers, with the last question which Xoli had asked him saying, do you think JZ should not have been elected as president, where he didn't want to make his life difficult for himself to live, as he gave an intriguing answers yet again, where the simple and straight answer should have been YES.

I guess it depends on whether you believe in the rule of law or of the jungle and law of public opinion. That charge of protection will be true if the ANC MPs shot it down and absolved him of any wrong doing. At the time of the Section 89 Phala-Phala report, the Reserve Bank, the Public Protector, the SARS and Hawks we all running investigations over this issue… ANC in parliament deferred to the Judiciary to make the pronouncement on the independent panel. That is an issue of due process. Maybe the question is should there be due process or should it only be extended to those we hate? If Ramaphosa looses his challenge to set aside the report and ANC in National Assembly still vote not to impeach like they did in protecting Zuma then your accusation will be 💯valid.
As we have seen in previous years reports have been set aside in the past in the courts. So what happens if you move to impeach someone and the courts make a determination that the Section 89 Independent Panel report should be set aside? What is the redress then? It would have been a factional political witch hunt with long reaching consequences for the future and accountability. This is why due process is important. You have to see it through as slow and frustrating as it might be sometimes.

Many MK military personnel see Zuma as their commander, so why would you consider a non-military individual as your commander? if he was never in that role.
