    I don't raise anymore, but enjoy the knowledge from this video. I raised Birds back in the 70s, 514s, Vince Gallegos, many others breeders, NBRC, and competition Parlors, Southern California. It's great to learn that many Roller enthusiasts continue to improve the bread. Thank so much for putting out the videos so others can learn how to bread better birds, spinners. Back in the 70s we didn't have the internet and we weren't able to network world wide. Now we are so lucky to have Professional Roller Enthusiasts that are making these informative videos.
    Rollers are true to my heart and they are amazing little animals. Like Mr. APODACA says, please fight evolution and keep these birds rolling for many generations to enjoy. If enthusiasts stop breading then the Roller Breeds with time may become extinct and the natural pull of evolution will washout the DNA traits with regular street birds.
    Thank you! Great Videos, I will continue to watch! 👍🕊🐦

    nice topic Sam. The issue is that over time these birds all become very much related in a smaller gene pool and the breeders can come from anywhere. It's your knowledge of these birds that allows you to select the birds that you need in the stock loft in "type" and also expression of the birds as well. It's not complicated but most just don't pay attention to these small characteristics.

    Very Good I think to get that out there about Types, my friends and I growing up in the Bay Area always knew of types my older Brother who started out me in 1960 taught us about them, and I also agree with a strong muscle male.Speed also will be achieved with age and training which is very difficult in these time unlike it was for us back flying in the 60ts,70ts, and ,80ts It's a predator world now where I live Thank you Both and Smitty I love that music

  • @QBDad18
    @QBDad18 Před 5 lety +3

    My experience is the larger hens are needed for the best deep spinners. I think these days many will line breed a 2 or more lines of birds and then they mix them back to the other lines for the flyers. This induces the hybrid vigor but also does not guarantee birds that can reproduce. "Click" pairs is the #1 key for forming it's own family.

      in order to Claim to have a family in my Opinion you have to be able to inbred it without creating lock up Roll downs

    • @ksoonsoon
      @ksoonsoon Před 4 lety

      Damian Mimic Randall ASCAP I have a kind of a bizarre response to your post. I totally get the spirit of what you’re saying, and that is probably true if you’re saying you want to classify what you have created as a good family of performing birds. However, someone could still say they have created their own family of birds even if they don’t fly worth a crap. They Are actually several families of birds out there that are not great flyers, but there still a family. Personally, I have my own biological family. I will call them the family because were all from the same bloodline, but we have a fair amount of dysfunction. Still a family.

  • @sanc47

    In England we call these pigeons tumblers. I did not see any spinners in the air. our spinning pigeons will not damage feathers when they spin fast.

  • @QBDad18
    @QBDad18 Před 5 lety +1

    to me and I might have mentioned this to you Smitty but the muscle come from the hen side. Small hens lay small eggs and produce smaller birds, hens dominate in TYPE in a breeding pair. Type is size and looks... I think producing breeders that may not be flown, but created ONLY for a stock bird it's more of a genetic make up and not as much for TYPE. Granted if you breed 4 to 6 off of this pair you might want to select the type of bird that best fits what you are are after.

  • @ninob9425
    @ninob9425 Před 2 lety

    I think this man has "stock sense" he says he needs birds that produce birds that produce good spinners, yes ? But he must "Test" those birds to understand what he has ! With all due respect to this gentleman, he is using Genetics to be his driving force without really understanding why it works. He is a solid breeder in my opinion, and has a loft of family crosses that make up his loft as per his statement's.

  • @QBDad18
    @QBDad18 Před 5 lety +1

    The tail is a misconception there... I think it's because his feed is minimal.. he either feeds all wheat or only wheat and milo to the kit birds. There is not enough amino acids in there to keep the feathers in good condition. I can tell you that look at the 10th flight it's worn. This means it's tight enough to rub the other flight feather when it's spinning, those flight feathers for the "A" style they can hit and will rub and wear the end tips like that.

    I've learned over the years that you have to breed for kitting as well as the roll. I see a lot of people nowadays that have good birds but the kits are sloppy and all over the place. You can't score points if your birds aren't kitting well.

    I can understand a little about what Richard is saying but his terminology is totally different from what I think. what makes not sense is this is this statement; "he says he never has to INBREED or LINEBREED , he always outcross" This make zero sense with a family of rollers that all come from a tight gene pool.... You wil never never develop a family with line breeding at the minimum... good birds are developed from KEY INDIVIDUAL birds
