My favorite was anything with the yellow caps. The Pirates wore mustard colored pillbox caps in 1976 and switched to a brighter yellow with the uniform changes in 1977. But the black caps were epic as well.
As an Expos fan I don't love the outcome of this game but I do love being able to watch it on CZcams, and the picture quality is fantastic considering it's from 1979. These were the two best uniforms in the game for my money. Nothing beats the red, white & blue of the Expos or their iconic logo in my opinion but as a kid collecting baseball cards back then the Pirates and their black & yellow unis were my next favourite colour scheme and just as cool to me. You had to respect the legends on that team like Parker, Stargell, Madlock, Tekulve, etc., and so many other great contributors like Bibby, Moreno, Easler and Foli (the ex-Expo). Great to see my favourite Expo from childhood Larry Parrish hit a two-run homer in this game. What amazing talent we had back then with a line-up including Dawson, Carter, Valentine, Cromartie, Parrish, Perez, Scott and Speier, and bench contributors like Cash and White. Cool to see Staub back for his second stint with the Expos as well and the ovation he received. When you consider how close the 95-win Expos came to winning the NL East that year, this game really mattered in a big way to both teams. Unfortunately for Expos fans we were always the bridesmaids and never the bride. Thanks for uploading and for keeping those hilarious old commercials intact.
I enjoy your archive of these games. Tremendous to see the crowd support that the Expos achieved, and the passion that Pirates fans were able to demonstrate. It has been a challenging multiple decades for Pirates fans, unfortunately.
Matt A, My all time favorite team, I watched that entire series at my friend's house who's dad and family were huge Orioles fans, When the Pirates went down 3-1 they were convinced that it was over and said Baltimore is going to win the series, I said Pittsburgh is coming back and taking it all and they did just that, I remember Pop's big homer that pretty much sealed it Tekulve nailing it down out of the bullpen and I can still see Omar Moreno squeezing the last out, I was 15 years old in 1979, I remember it like it was yesterday.
I'm a Red Sox fan, but even I got caught up in the post game wrap up. We Are Family by Sister Sledge playing in the background, as the Pirates TV network celebrated the team taking over first place in the National League East. Awesome.
@@timmccartney2136 That's too bad about the NFL games. I thought maybe another youtuber may have turned you in. BUT for a Pittsburgher the Bucs and Pitt were very good during this time plus the Pens and Maulers games are welcome as well.
@@timmccartney2136 The NFL? Interesting. I thought maybe it was the NHL. So even if you can't upload it, do you have Steelers-Bucs? Lot of people looking for that one. Regardless, good to see you back.
@@timmccartney2136 That absolutely stinks about the NFL games. I mean, you were uploading games from 35-40+ years ago. It's ridiculous how the NFL is so touchy about that when these were really old games. At this point, why give people grief over uploading them especially when the other leagues don't seem to mind if old content winds up on CZcams.
Milo Hamilton was a hall of fame announcer and very competent. But he replaced the fired Bob Prince, who was beloved in Pittsburgh just like Harry Caray was in Chicago. Milo did a great job, but the fans never embraced him. You never be the guy who replaces the guy. While Milo was great on the air, he was kind of prickly off the air, which might have hurt his chances to catch on in Pittsburgh.
I think what was better about MLB then, because it wasn't those uniforms and that turf, is the fact that roster salary totals weren't as lopsided toward large markets as they are now.
58:57 So many commercials for banks and loans. I guess that this is the result of interest rates being so high at that time. The banks had to go begging for borrowers.
You've obviously never been to a game at Olympic Stadium...especially when they had crowds of 55,000 for game 3 and 4 of the 1981 NLCS...it was LOUD!!!
Beautiful uniforms from both teams.
Those 1979 Pirates uniforms were the best!

I wish you still had the Expos in Montreal. And I completely agree with you about both teams' uniforms.
I love Youppi standing between the umpires for the National Anthems!
Thanks so much for this! My brother and I took a bus from Boston to watch our Pirates for the doubleheader Friday and this game. Great times

What a great Pirate team in 79! They did it all and won it all.

Tim McCartney, thank you sir, for this priceless upload!
Mike Douglas Show, man this was so long ago….79 was a good year
Thanks Tim for bringing back fond memories of The Family!
This is the game from July 28, 1979, just FYI.
The '79 Pirates season was missing one major detail -- Bob Prince in the broadcast booth. #MissUGunner

Baseball in the 1970s; Colorful Characters and Colorful Uniforms. #GoldenAge
The best.
1:42:43 Moreno was safe. It was a pleasure watching Omar run the bases. Very few have done it better than he did that year.
Def safe!
Good to see you return. Great to see more Bucs. Hoping you also have the 76 Steelers and Bucs. Would love to see them against the Expansion team.
I cant upload NFL games anymore. The NFL took my last page down and warned me about copyright infringement.

He only lasted four years in Chicago as the cub's announcer, Harry Cary did not like him
The first two (2) seconds... I thought they were playing the chorus/bridge of Al Ham's "Move Closer to your World."
Classic baseball when there were actual pennant races.
at least Mrs. Atkins gets the ten tasty cakes, kind of a cruel contest

Milo Hamilton was a great player by play man.
45:47 I miss the OLD Giant Eagle logo.
Shatz was in the weeds every inning he was out there.
79 Pirates best team in baseball, they had the young Expos number or Montreal could have taker the East .
1:00:14 Lanny Frattare & Nelson Briles.
2:49:07 Milo Hamilton & Nelson Briles.
The bench is ready to explode..They'll be out there to greet him..Pirates win and nothing
What's that number to the Mobile Eye Hotline again? I got TV2-22?? but forgot the last digits!
1:32 Milo Hamilton & Nelson Briles
It's OK Pirate fans, you'll have we are family forever.
What date was this game? Thanks for uploading.
9:25 So the Pirates were 55-43 at the beginning of this game. That would place this game in late July.
21:20 This was a Saturday. That would make this July 28th (probably) or July 21st.
25:23 Confirmation . . . . July 28th.
@@sixtythreekraft2608 It was Saturday night. The Pirates had swept a doubleheader the day before.

Olympic Stadium very quiet as usual and always looked strange with the track by the dugouts

Quiet? Was one of the loudest at that time.
It also had horrible astroturf, but I still miss those Expos.
The Pirates can thank Thurman Munson for crashing his plane. The whole team was in mourning for that season and Steinbrenner held back his anger.
The Yankees wouldn't have been harder than the Orioles.
Horrible take, you are not fun at parties.
Wrong.... and Idiotic to boost
