I really miss that coaster. That was the best coaster at Worlds of Fun and probably one the best coasters of all time. The Orient Express is deeply missed.
memories... I've probably ridden this thing over 100 times in my life.
I ran the Orient Express that first year in 1980. This model is so awesome. I can't believe the detail. You even have the house right with the track that went down to the service bay. Amazing!
I worked on it in 1985 and 1995. Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the model and video!
I wondered how you did such a great job with the detail. It really took me back. The curves in the walkway, the water, the windows in the house. It brings back a lot of good memories. I can see myself standing there waiting to put my foot out and unlock all the cars as the train flew in the house - I was an idiot! And I remember sitting in that window running 3 trains on the track at once. It was probably the best summer of my life.
I've done all the coasters from 1980 - they're all on here if you want to go further down memory lane.
Sweet - I filled in on the Screamroller on occasion.
Love LOVE LOVE the music (especially the first part) I watch this video 4 or 5 times a day for the music. I would love to have a collection of similar music or even better yet, the actual music they used in the orient section of Worlds of Fun. I miss the Orient so much and miss our theme park :(
Very nice model of a blast from the past. This was quite an iconic roller coaster that I remember riding on back when I was 9 at the time. Do miss it however. The best part was when they introduced a cool inversion called the kamikaze curve.
I am a coaster modeler and big fan of Arrow - nice job! I like that your models resemble the simple concept models parks usually display.
Beautiful model of an amazing coaster.
Thank you very much!
I wish this ride was still running. I miss it alot :(
Do you know why they took it down because I don't this was my first big coaster
Too rough, and for Spinning Dragons (the ride of disappointment)
+CaptainDozer PVP I was actually only 1 when they took this down, but honestly WOF made mistakes like that with the Zambezi Zinger too. Boomerang isn't nearly as great as the Zinger. And Spinning Dragons is a letdown compared to this.
elijah the Zinger is now in Columbia and has been renamed “Montana Rusa”, there are videos on CZcams
NubbyToast No, Arrow coasters like that became maintenance nightmares, especially in the years immediately following the companies bankruptcy, believe it or not the Orient Express could still be there, neither spinning dragons nor the patriot take its space, defunctland did an amazing video on it (that I requested)
I grew up riding that coaster every summer. Seeing this vid of an operating model of it is cool as hell!!!
Awesome model! Nice flow! That ORIENT EXPRESS logo is so killer, I love that kitchy 80's ride branding. Again, nice work!
Thanks!
I adored this coaster! Thanks so much for the replica homage!
Amazing work, your models just keep getting better and better!
Thanks! If you visit our website, there is a How to Build a Model page that lists everything. Basically HO train trucks, styrene plastic, wood dowels, hot glue and aluminum wire and tubing. I do use K'nex motors and micro chain to haul the train up the lifts.
Incredible work! I've never been to Worlds of Fun, but I love coasters...and this is some amazing stuff.
Amazing work and it's functional! I admit, I did the chicken exit myself first time. Ended up riding it more times than I could count. One year, late 80's/early 90's we got stuck where the brakes apply over the sidewalk before the ride ends. Were were locked in for maybe 30 minutes and it started raining, even though there was a suspended walking platform next to us they wouldn't let us out. Awesome ride...remember the gum tree?
Oh yes, I remember the gum tree. I worked on the ride in 1985 and 10 years later in 1995. And all of my models are working models. I see you saw the Zinger model. There's the Screamroller (4 versions of it!), Schussboomer and Silly Serpent on the channel as well.
That is so awesome!!!!
@WroldsOfFun45 2 songs - First is "Shian", 2nd is "Hang up the Lantern". Look at my video for the Maker Faire to compare the Orient Express to the other 4 coasters present in 1980. The Express was located in a bowl valley with lots of trees, but it was large, comparatively and basically it took up as much space as the Timber Wolf, and was a bit longer than the Patriot. It was located between the entrance road and the Patriot, station was the "Lore of the Vampire" haunt.
Looks great.Theming is your best yet aswell
Very cool and I love the editing too. Take car now.
Thank you very much!
Well done!
Glad you like it! I can't wait for the others either, and yes, you have good eyes, that indeed is the Schussboomer in the background. I'll be finishing it up next.
I'm glad you like it. If you live in the Kansas City area, it's on display at Union Station, next to the entrance of Science City, along with the other 4 models, the exhibit is free and open regular Science City hours!
I rode on this back in 1984... One of the better Arrows Corkscrew type coasters I was ever on...Too bad they don't have it anymore...
Thats Ridiculously Amazing Bruh
Good Job!!!
The intro sounds like the ALF theme song!!!! Amazing coaster too!
That's so cool!
i worked there back in the 1999 and 2000 seasons; well in the 1999 season, if anyone remembers when this ride derailed, it mustve happened right as i was leaving work that night cause i seen it on the news right when i go home
Those turns at 1:51 would kill my neck back in the day.:) very neat to see this again
wow thts so cool WAY better then knex coasters what do you guys build them out of?
@aerohog The Orient Express was the best steel coaster ever, now or past, and the Prowler is the best wooden coaster ever, now or past. : )
@MonsterBuddy10 Thanks for the comment. Yes, it was removed. And no, the Timber Wolf is where the "Screamroller" was over in the Americana section of the park.
@MonsterBuddy10 yes it got torn down. nothing is on the space that the orient express was on. the station house is a haunted house during the halloween thing at the park.
@magicalzombie720 Glad you like them.
@aerohog The Prowler is very smooth so far. The manufacturer is known for it's smooth rides thus far (mostly!).
Also, can you tell us how you make the ride slow down right before it gets back in the station?
Awesome model..oh, and please please tell us the soundtrack you used.
that looks great, hey that got torn down and now its the timber wolf right
This model seems like it does better at conserving speed than Falcon. The elements of this one look more closely proportioned while Falcon's drop looks much taller compared to the next few elements.
It's all a learning curve. :) This was made after Falcon.
Nice choice of words
@NuckyNils ?? Are you referring to the music? They do play very similar music in the Orient section of Worlds of Fun. (If that's what you're referring to.)
@CoolioJoe100 No. It is pulled up to the top by the chain and then it's all gravity, seriously. Gravity 1 - CoolioJoe100 - 0 - yep, I'm just teasing you : )
where d you get the hieght and stuff for the models
@Brittany8337 It's not by anything any more, they removed it in 2003. It's former station is now Lore of the Vampire and the Spinning Dragons sits in front of where it used to be.
It slows down due to gravity, and the model was brand new. As time went on it sped up so much I had to use magnets as brakes at the end to keep it from slamming into the chain lift too fast!
p.s if you take requests, id love to see a model of one of the schwarzkopf triple looping coasters
Do you actually cut the curves and turns out of the styrene sheet, or do you cut straight strips and just curve them how you like hence giving you the banked turns?
A little of both: I always cut any turns or curves. In the case of banked curves, I make the curve slightly larger than necessary and as I bend it to fit the curve, it naturally forms the bank of the curve.
just a thought, Have you ever ridden Nemesis at alton towers? You should make that you're next project XD But i dont know if you can do inverted coasters with these kits?
you should make the rollercoaster "the falcon" from holland, I've been in that rollercoaster, its is FUN! :D
@crossbones64 I'm sure they'll use it again someday...I do miss the Express though.
@aerohog Best roller coaster that used to be at Worlds of Fun, I agree. Out of the current coasters, Prowler gets my vote. : )
I would like a copy of the second song on this video, where can I get it from and what is the name of it in Chinese?
whats that purple one in the backround
My favorite part of your model ist the tunnel at the beginning
how did you make ithe ride?
LOVED IT I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE OTHERS! Is that the Schussboomer i see in the backround at 2:10?
@zac613 I get what you're saying....even better, just put two people on the forward facing seats leaving the station and no one on the other side, you'll spin like mad.
Does this have the Chicken Exit in the station house?
It did when it was open, but now the chicken exit is at Timber Wolf
Potato7642 haha, my first thought when the entrance was shown was “where is the Chicken Exit?”
i dont know why worlds of fun got rid of this magnificent coaster if the lot it used to stand it STILL hasnt been used!
The kid inside of me loves this!!!
I'm sorry, but I know nothing about model roller coasters. Is this powered electrically or not, because I'm pretty sure that gravity couldn't do that on its own. It looks amazing BTW!
The Quasar - the video for it is posted too.
this was my moms favorite roller coaster it would be really cool if worlds of fun brought back some retired rides
the Orient was sold and scrapped, you could be driving part of the Orient express right now!
I was riding the Beast before you were born, young man. : ) I know my coasters. The Beast would cost an arm and a leg to build thought.
@mattiemaas Hey there, thanks for subcribing. I have a website listed on my CZcams home page modelcoasters(dot)com. If you go there you can see how they are made! Cheers.
@RYansAdams79 Thanks!
I cant believe they took this one out. The prowler is close but this one is better. The patriot is equal with the prowler IMO event though it is a hanging coaster.
I've was probably riding Zingo before you were born, I miss it. (said with a non-mean snicker)
I decided to make a model of zambezi zinger on a rollercoaster game and my dad took pictures of it and showed it to one of his workers and he said he had memories of the coaster and he said tell him I said thank you and he told me that and I said tell him I said your welcome.
can i buy this thing from you its so great :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
@modelrollercoasters Okay, thanks for the reply so soon! :D
They're not kits, it is all scratch built. I've not attempted an inverted coaster yet. I have a few other styles in the pipe (all non-inverted) before I venture that way. We'll see, I don't ever say "never".
awesome
@NuckyNils gotcha!
I want to see vekoma or s&s recreate this
that may be unfortunate, but I rlly want to see ur result on that rollercoaster, I WANT TO SEE HOW FAST IT GOES ON A MINI SIZE!!!!!! >w
Kinda looks like Vortex
How do you get this track
It is made from scratch, if you visit the website, there are instructions under the "Build A Model" section.
It's already been done by someone else...I tend to not build many real life coasters, except for my special projects and it's usually of lost coasters. Not that I wouldn't build a model someone else has, or one that currently exists. I prefer to create my own like Dragon's Flight... : )
I did my own version of a roller coaster I called Falcon, it's on CZcams, but it is my own design and not of the one at Duinrell. : )
see the link on my CZcams homepage to my website for that info. Thanks.
Dude do Vortex next!
Maybe someday. I'd like to do it. Space is a bit of an issue with the home we moved into last year. It would take up a space slightly bigger than this model does.
the original rmc raptor
This Roller coaster was bad asss, they need to finally ditch the stupid timberwolf and bring back orient :)
you should do superman ride of steel, and batman the dark knight.
@WroldsOfFun45 i don't really like the spinning dragons. but the trick is to have a heavy person1 sit and a skinny person2 sit side to side. then on the other side of the car have another heavy person3 sit directly across from the skinny person2 and have another skinny person4 sit directly in front of the other heavy person1. hope u understand what i'm saying. [1 4]
[2 3]
This looks the same as the Vortex at King's Island
There are some similarities in their respective layouts, but this one was build 7 years before and has two less inversions (no corkscrews). Good eye.
you should make the beast, its a wooden coaster. it the worlds longest
Hey you ARE AWSOME
Worlds of Fun should have never taken this unique classic Arrow coaster down. It should still be standing and operating just like the Loch Ness Monster
What’s this music 1:15 1:38 1:43 2:05 2:17
It's called, "Hang Up the Lantern"
How much does this cost
This particular model was about $500.00. The parts for the 1:48 scale models - the wheel sets - are no longer produced. I have a few sets that I've saved and I reuse them. I only offer my XL models (1:24 scale)for sale to museums/science centers.
www.modelcoasters.com ah :( okay no problem keep up the good work i subbed 😀 :)
I hope RMC watches this video.
I had to do the chicken exit the first time I saw this. It freaked me out. I rode it the next year and it was a totally awesome roller coaster. This model is even more AWESOME. Sadly, this coaster is gone. Boo.
If it were the rmc raptor, the. Spot on
Well, I've been building Flat Track models for a few decades now (3 in fact!) My method is easy, inexpensive and quick, which is what I like. :)
@@modelrollercoasters What do you use and how do you get the custom trains?
If you watch it at .25 speed it's closer to the right speed to scale.
Good catch. You're right it does. Of course models don't scale speed.
Wow XD
too bad ya couldnt put a little tube camera on ya'r lil' cars!!
Why put China Taiwan New Year festive songs ==
for those not satisfed by Roller Coaster Tycoon
classical music...
ok xD
