  • I demonstrate how to cook a double meat double cheeseburger on the stove top using two, 4 oz hamburger patties that we formed in a separate video. Because these hamburger patties are thin, remember that the trick is the sear hot and fast, whether you're cooking them in a cast iron skillet on your stove top, flat top griddle, or on a grill outside.

      Jacob Burton Love your ch and this recipe! What model is that cast iron pan as I want to invest in one and I trust your expert judgement! Thx!! Can’t wait to cook this.

      Any solid cast iron pan will work. But Lodge is my go to. If you can find an old lodge at a thrift store or garage sale snap it up as quickly as possible. The older Lodges have a better finish, but the new lodges work great too.

    I'm also a fan of the mayo on the bottom bun! I was training a guy the other day who asked, "Does the mayo HAVE TO go on the bottom bun?" "YES!" I said, "nobody likes a ridiculously soggy bun!"
    I also saw you switch to a dry towel for moving that cast iron around, Chef! I've accidentally grabbed my cast iron a few too many times at home while it was screaming hot. ;)

    Isn’t the entire point of American cheese for it to be melted

      I've never personally been convinced that there is ANY point to American cheese, but that may be because my parents fed me shelf-stable boxes of Velveeta when I was a kid. Swiss on the other hand is a real cheese. :-)
      But that said, the cheese is on the top of the burger patty, and if you assemble it right after cooking, it is plenty hot enough to melt the cheese.

      Yeah I always just flip mine once, and after i let it cook a little bit on second side, throw the cheese on while it's still in the pan or on the grill

    Gotta use some secret sauce (homemade thousand island) if you want it to be a real "double double"

    Burger looks delicious, but not sure you can pull off that cooking style in a house without some kind of industrial smoke extractor unless you don't mind smoking the entire house :P

      Another option is using an induction burner to sear outside. Cast iron works great on induction, and the Burton Induction Burners (no affiliation) are around $100 and work great.

    why is it called a double double? Isn't it just a double hamburger?

    • @JacobBurton
      @JacobBurton  Před 6 lety +4

      Double meat double cheese. That's just what we call it on the west coast, mainly due to In-N-Outs influence.

      A double hamburger would be a"double meat" in In-N-Out terms.

    This is not a good example of how to cook a burger patty. If you feel that a dimple in the middle of the patty is necessary prior to cooking, then you do not know how to properly form a burger. With the way you did it, you might as well have smashed it so it would stay together. You really should remove this video to save yourself from further embarrassment.
