One of the first sitcoms I really watched as a child, and still watch the DVDs now. My family still say "that'll be nice, Mrs. Lipton"!

This show is very popular in Hungary. There were also some anniversary events in Hungary (czcams.com/video/lgY8JvSFjM8/video.html). This popularity has a reason. Besides the fact that "You Rang M'Lord" is great, it came at the best time around 1990. Berlin wall fell, and Middle European countries like Hungary could finally start contacting more with the West. Some TV series came in like Dallas, Knight Rider, and also You Rang M'Lord, so practically all the population was watching this, and quickly became a favorite (for me as well).

Hm, looked it up, and Jeffrey Holland is only 6 years younger than Paul McShane. Didn't look that way during Hi De Hi I thought. Hi De Hi, You Rang M'lord, and Oh! Doctor Beeching all had the same cast playing largely the same roles. I wonder how much it was because they all liked working together, and how much that that the two writers kept thinking of more and more ideas for the same cast and characters, after the BBC didn't want to make any more of each series? So they just did a bit of set-dressing and carried on much the same with the same jokes and same characters, invent a couple of new catchphrases, and on goes Hi De Hi for another couple of decades!
