Watch it live in1973. Edgar is a musicians, musician. But seeing is believing. Also him singing "tobacco road" with his brother Johnny. An awesome blues singer. ☮️
Edger didn't play many instruments HE PLAYED ALL. He spliced it all together in his apartment. That is why it is called FRANKENSTEIN
Live version is longer and better. Frankenstein was a warm up piece and they expanded it to a song. The drummer and guitarist Rick Derringer have their own hits. Edgar played the sax on Tina Turner's simply the best song. His brother was also a great musician. Look at his version of Tobacco Road
Talk about a flip. I'm 62. A sailor. My first album was Tom Jones, Little Green Apples. Think my mom might have had something to do with that. My second "first" album was this one. My second was Deep Purple " Machine Head ". First concert was Led Zeppelin, House's of the Holy ,tour Tampa Stadium 1973. Nothing against Tom,but I was pretty much gone at that point. Not really my favorite Edgar Winter song, and I prefer his brother's bluesy sound, but together ? Ridiculously good. Rock and Roll Hoochy Coo (?) Is probably the more famous song with Rick Daranger, I believe , but Johnny's "Still alive and Well " is my favorite. Enjoy...😎
"Frankenstein" didn't really have a dance beat, although there may be some funk influence. Discos/dance clubs were around, but weren't "the thing", until a couple of years after Frankenstein was released. I don't remember anyone dancing to "Frankenstein".
I know it's been two years since you posted this video and I'm not sure if you'll even bother to read this, but you definitely need to check out Winter's band prior to this group. the band is called White Trash and their first album, Edgar Winter's White Trash is phenomenal. It's Texas blues/funk/R&B/jazz and I play it to this day. Check out: Give It Everything You've Got, Let's Get It On, I've Got News For You and the incredible Good Morning Music. Like Boz Scagg's Lowdown, they don't make music like this anymore.
Since Ryan loves the sax so much there are two popular and amazing instrumental tracks from the 1970's that you guys absolutely have to check out! The first one is 1974's "Pick Up The Pieces" by Average White Band! This track will knock Ryan's socks off!!! The second one is 1975's K-JEE by MFSB!! This track is a pure firecracker! It was also used in the movie "Saturday Night Fever"! Ryan will love this one as well! Sax rules!
Dudes you have to watch the live version to fully appreciate how bad ass Edgar is!
Im 60 years old when this came out in 73 it blew everybodys mind.
Do you want to hear song with a good saxophone work listen to a song by Supertramp called my kind of lady. Saxophone will blow you away.
This was huge in the 70's, very unique at that time. It was played on FM alot!
not sure if it was played in dance clubs, but it was played at a lot of house parties!
Live performance video is a must watch!!! Incredible!!! ❤️🔥
You need to watch the live version. So you can see all the instruments that Edgar Winters plays. INSANE watching him.
I'll add my vote to all those saying, "Watch the live performance". It's epic!
Fun fact, the synthesizer used is the Arp 2600 which was the same machine that created the sounds of R2-D2 for Star Wars.
You must watch the live video to really appreciate this!!!
watch the live version of them playing Frankenstein
I never went to any "dance parties," but in the 70s, this song was played at all the keg parties and house parties I went to.
And this is the band that also featured the amazingly talented Dan Hartman (played bass guitar on this track) who went on to have several hits of his own including the classic "I Can Dream About You"
