The reason Neil has such a large drum kit is because he plays all of it.
❤
You know you got a big kit when your walking around playing them like the Xanedo set
The best drummer of all time. RIP Neil Peart.
So glad you did this. "Tom Sawyer" is still one of the greatest songs ever. I first heard it in 1981 and was completely fucking blown-away. This is truly THE quintessential Rush song.
Neal is constantly changing his timing in this song. Best drumming any song ever.
BEST BAND EVER, no question. 3 that sound like 5. Not a better drummer , bassist or guitarist to play the big sound they produce.Canada's pride. WE ARE RUSH ARMY!!
As an American, I must concede. Rush is the best band, period!
@@Another_User_Name_ I salute you for that kind of humility. I hereby make you an honorary trooper in the RUSH army. : )
I think you'll appreciate this newly released cut:

Imagine being in a band, recording that, and being disappointed with how it turned out. They are crazy talented.
Someone asked Eddy VanHalen what's it like being the best guitarist in the world. He said "ask Alex Lifeson ".
Is that true?
@@Another_User_Name_ he said it to a Rolling Stone reporter white walking by to do a sound check . He was a Rush fan
myth
I’ve heard that attributed to soooo many people.
Eddy isnt even top 10.
Rush is the reason all my musician friends in high school wanted to be drummers and bass players
What is Rush known for? (1) Musical integrity, after three records company asks for radio hits and they deliver a 20 minuted power/prog masterpiece in 2112. (2) Masterful skills and musicianship which is obvious. (3) Intelligent thoughtful and deep lyrics, no simplistic rock/pop songs here (4) Musical Change Ups: Rush changes with the decade, whatever they wanted to do (5) 40 years of quality work from three friends (RIP Neil)
The 3 of them, having the talent they have, is so rare and special.
Neil Peart RIP - the Professor. If Neil Peart isn't your favorite drummer, he is your favorite drummers favorite drummer.
Alex Lifeson..........so underrated!!!!!!!!!!! My top 3 all time!!!!!!!
Stop using words you don’t understand. There is NOTHING underrated about any member of Rush. Alex is considered by his peers and fans as one of the greatest ever.
@@Golfstar17 take it easy, I know he’s considered one of the greats, but isn’t appreciated enough!!!!!

You are correct, Moving Pictures was recorded at Le Studio in (I think) Quebec. I may be wrong.
Sadly, Le Studio is gone, having been abandoned. There is a video floating around here with Neil walking around the ruins
The site of this recording was in Morin Heights, Quebec, about 70 miles north of Montreal in the Laurentian Mountains in a place called “Le Studio” which burned down in the 80’s. I lived there before the fire.
Love this song. Love the band. Neil Peart was 🔥RIP. All superb musicians.
Moving Pictures was indeed recorded in Canada.."Le Studio" in Morin-Heights, Quebec....They have recorded many classic albums there
Unfortunately, Le Studio burned down a couple of years ago.
Yeah I believed arson was suspected...
Morin heights is in north of Montréal, which is north of new york state, very sad that "le studio" disappear
@@maximegervais2213 Le Studio était justement en travaux de rénovation quand il est parti en fumé ,quel perte .
@@kallyfest très triste, Rush a t-il enregistré d'autres albums dans ce studio, avec moving pictures?
Saw them live in Edmonton in 2003. As good live as they are in the studio.
RIP Neal Peart. One of the best.
I saw the Moving Pictures concert and is to this day one of the best concerts I ever saw. No back up musicians, just the 3 of them. Sounded as good as the studio version. Mind was blown.
Canadian bands back in the day were where it's at -- Americans loved Garth brooks and Cindy lauper and we loved our Chilliwack, rush and BTO
Brooks was in the 90s. Rush had mostly lost it by then. BTO didn't exist
Triumph had some great tunes as well. As a 28 year old prog rock/jam band fan music these days doesn't come close to what rush used to put out.
Loverboy kicked ass too, but England got it on everyone. Shall I list England's best?
Actually this song isn’t”lite work” for Neil. He has stated that Tom Sawyer is one of his most difficult to play😊
I've had the pleasure of seeing Rush live many times - about a dozen times - and it still wasn't nearly enough. Their live shows were unbelievable. 3-hour shows, no opening band, just straight, mind-blowing rocking out by the best rock band of all time.
We were so flippin lucky!!@@
I live 15 minutes from that place. I have a few pieces of broken glass from that giant glass separation between where they are and the mixing console, you can see it right behind Alex. I also have some pieces of parquetry flooring exactly from where Neil's drums are sitting in this video, and some cedar shingles from the exterior siding that you see at the very end of the video. So glad I have these artifacts of rock'n roll history.
This was the album they were making when we were playing in the park and heard music coming from the factories and we climbed on the dumpsters to watch in the window and saw them rocking out making the most impressive sounds we had ever heard . They saw us and came out and talked to us about hockey ( cause that's what we Canadians do 😂) we talked about the music they were making and their cars they had beautiful cars and when we were done Geddy and Alex gave us guitar picks and Neil gave us drumsticks they were so down to earth and humble. When I was older I saw them twice I had to meeting them and watching them record made me want to see them. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
*No Bigger Rush Fan Than Me On The Planet (I'm Sure Millions Feel The Same Way About Themselves) & This Was The Track That Hooked Its Canadian Teeth Into Me In 1981. I Was A Little Familiar With PW (1980), But Tom Sawyer/Moving Pictures Immediately Obsessed Me To Consume All 7 Studio Albums That Preceded This One. 43 Years & 33 Concerts Later, I Still Believe It's The Greatest Song & Album They've Created. In My Opinion, They Were At Their Apex; Musical Complexity (Pre MIDI) & Musical/Lyrical Talent - Especially The Sound Of Pratt's Cherry-Wine Tama Kit & Percussion Ensemble Which Began Changing On Their Next LP, Signals (1982). Maybe It's My Bias Because 1981 Is When I Became A RUSHian Citizen, But Tom Sawyer May Be The Greatest Hard Rock Tune Of All-Time. Thank-You For Putting This Together. ☆*
You guys said it they are the Elite, cream of the cream, top top band and deserving of the highest praise indeed
My favorite band and , in my book, the best rock band ever.
Have seen them 2 times here in Sweden. Best liveband i have ever watch for sure! This video was recorded in LE STUDIO in Canada
Hey guys. The recording studio is in Morin Heights, Quebec, which is only about a 40-minute drive from my place, north of Montreal. It was called "Le Studio", and it closed in 2003.
30 minutes drive away from where I live in the Laurentians BTW.
I LOVE listening to music with you guys.
I'm so glad yall recognized Alex! Did you notice how he mimicked the piano, then sent it into another stratosphere!
The studio was in Quebec - Le Studio was torn down in 2020
Xanadu - Exit Stage Left, you will never see a better live performance of an incredibly complicated song.
Pay particular attention to Alex on lead guitar at the 7:28 mark when he changes from the top to the bottom neck without missing a beat. Inf%$kingcredible percussion clinic as well.
La Villa Stagiatto, Limelight........so many great songs
You all prolly dont care at all but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account??

Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Robert Sincere Glad I could help xD
LeStudio was in the middle of the woods in Quebec. It was state of the art when this song was recorded. There were on site living quarters so bands could go there to record and use it as a retreat and rest up and recharge in between tours. April Wine also did some recording there.
It became out dated and there was a fire that burned part of the complex and it was abandoned and vandalized over the years.
The mixing board actually was sold before the fire and ended up being used in a recording studio in the Chicago area for many years.
There are actually some pretty interesting CZcams videos about LeStudio.
In Concert is Unbelievable.
Yep. Seen them 8 times!
This song was my intro to Rush. I was in grade 4 at the time. Monster track.
Eraserhead is probably the weirdest film ever made. It was David Lynch's cornerstone of outside creepiness. If you can't handle wierd, avoid..if you are ready for the David Lynch rabbit hole, essential. I think Alex was the eraserhead guy, I saw him wearing a button in a few stage pics, (somehow I'm not surprised) Lol...
In the Laurentiens mountains 100 miles north of Montreal, also where April Wine recorded many of their hits & albums. Rush is what they call Progressive Music band
WORKING MAN live in Cleveland. This will blow you away.
The video was recorded at Le Studio (later renamed Studio Morin Heights) at Studio Morin Heights, Québec
Hey guys, great videos! This album was recorded at Le Studio in Quebec. It has since been left to time, and over the years there's always a call to buy ti and get it going again. Just give it a Google!
Discovered you guys today, discovering my all time greatest piece of musical art, a good day, you guys are awesome!
The studio is in the province of Quebec, and it's simply called, Le Studio. It's north of Montreal, in a location called, Morin Heights. Many artists you may know have recorded there... Cat Stevens, Ritchie Havens, Chicago, The Police, the Bee Gees, Sting, Corey Hart, David Bowie, and many more!
This came out in 1980, maybe 79. still out standing.
Imagine being 9 years old when this song came out and trying to play this on a guitar. Fort Bragg N.C.
When you are ready, there are a couple of Special RUSH songs that are must haves. 2112, the whole 20+ minute opus.
That keyboard part leading into the solo, then Alex doubles it. Next Alex leaves to solo but Geddy fills right in on the bass with the same 7/8 pattern. Epically crafted song writing!
Nice reaction. Working Man was Rush's first hit song off their self titled album Rush. You can do the studio version as a reaction but if you really want to blow your minds, do "Working Man" live in Cleveland. Other radio hits to get started are Limelight, Freewill, Closer to the Heart and Spirit of the Radio should get you up and running with Rush.
Recorded at Le Studio in Canada. A lot of bands recorded there ie April Wine, Police, Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, Bowie and more. Went bankrupt 2008, destroyed by suspicious fire 2017.
you gotta remember in this era there were a lot of good bands and for rush to be on top of all that is just mind blowing.... in todays era if rush came out with this now they would get every award possible and people would lose there minds i think ther were just soo many great bands that rush kinda went under the radar but all musicians knew who rush were whispered in hushed and reverent tones when talked about
You reacted to April Wine “Roller”. They have another song called “I Like to Rock” and the official video was also shot in this same studio.
Ground breaking, incredible music.
Tom Sawyer, modern day warrior, whose mind is not for rent to any God or government.
He knows changes aren’t permanent, but knows Change is.
🎶🤯🎶
Recored at "Le Studio" in a town just north of Montreal called Morin Heights. Same studio that April Wine used for their video "I Like To Rock".
Just THREE Canadian guys rockin' out :) Peace and Love
for kicks and giggles on your own time, check out Foo Fighters bringing up an audience member to sing Tom Sawyer. guy did great!
*RUSH RULES!*
💜💫✌🏼🎵
💜💜💜💜
I heard the very first live performance of this song, at the tail end of the Permanent Waves tour when they were airing new material to take into the Moving Pictures recording sessions. The lyrics were still a bit different from the recorded version, but it got immediate audience response from that opening synth sweep to the crazy drum fills. After hearing it, I just kept counting the days until the album came out.
The greatest 3-man band of all time
You guys should check out Working man, Live version from Cleveland. Enjoying your channel, CHEERS from 🇨🇦
Best song ever!!🥰
"La Villa Strangiato" should be next.
They are so far ahead of their time, They are timeless... Rest In Power, Professor.
Oh yeah he is that good 👍👍👍
Neil Peart’s double bass drum kit.. nobody see’s how fast the foot pedals are going off when you watch this band but you definitely hear it.. you wonder… “How’s he doing this sound”? That was always fun to watch his solo’s in concert.. so this is what a feel good jam looks like! 🥰😊😁
You would love "Closer to the heart"!
That was in Morin heights in the laurentien in the world renowned studio there in the province of Quebec just an hour from Montreal 😉👌
Back to your question , a trio as good as Rush, i would say Cream. The best drummer Ginger Baker, the best guitarist Eric Clapton and a great bassist in Jack Bruce. They were in 10 years before Rush. i love em both!!
Back when Rush was in its infancy, one critic said Geddy Lee sounded like Mickey Mouse on helium🤣. Not only that, but if you put some green make-up on him, he'd be a dead ringer for the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. Double🤣🤣.
think Triumph my friends,,,,anotherCanadian power Trio!!
Also, Geddy is considered The BEST BASS guitarist, ever and to date,, As for Alex, you are absolutely correct, he is in a world and league all his own, and others to emulate. RUSH, people place Triumph, as a very close 2nd to RUSH. But RUSH set the bar for other bands to escalate to achieve. Tom Sawyer was recorded at Le Studio, Morin-Heights, Quebec, Canada.
The Awesomeness is overwhelming. If you ever wonder how the Gods play music? Well, here you go.
Just to give you an idea of Neil Peart drums, here is a solo, from one of the tour gigs they did. Neil was also the writer of all RUSH songs. The sounds you hear are NOT from anywhere else but his kit. They are computer-assisted for sounds and such and he changes on the fly by foot pedals... > czcams.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/video.html **On a side note, Neil would often drive off for long times to regenerate, so to speak. His life was turned upside down with the loss of his daughter in a car crash in 1997, and his common-law wife, who passed away soon after from cancer. Neil passed away on January 7th, 2020 from brain cancer. RUSH has not toured since, they stopped in 2015 with their last concert where it all began for them in Cleveland Ohio.
Guys trust me on this. The song 2112 will change your life! It’s long but it is incredible!!
By the way, the snow you see is not "on the ground" but on a frozen lake. The place was, past tense' majestic. It was left in such a neglected state for the past 15 years or so that it was beyond repair. It was demolished about a year ago. It's (was) located in Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada.
Growing up in Northeast Ohio in the 70's only one Radio Station would play there music in the US!
WDVE Cleveland!!
Rush 2112 is dedicated to that Radio Station, check out the Album Cover
It's on it!!!
That was recorded in Morin heights the world 🌎 renowned recording studio just an hour north from Montreal witch no longer exist today
Eraserhead was David Lynch's first film. Neil Peart was an avid sci-fi and fantasy fan.
All 3 are at least in the GOAT conversations on their instruments. But, that is just the starting point for Rush. Their three way musical mind meld redefined the term “tight.” For all their individual virtuosity, their music is incredibly restrained. There is no attention hogging diva in any of these three guys.
As great as all three are, the one that blows me away the most is Geddy Lee. Sings, plays a ripping bass, synths with hands AND FEET. Probably the one guy most responsible for three sounding like five or six.
I love Rush, and I love this song, but for me their greatest masterpiece is " La Villa Strangiato" another instrumental, based on some nightmares that Alex Lifeson had
Best guitar solo ever in my opinion
Thank you for playing RUSH, now, do you want to hear the song that sent them off to the next level. Even though, they are a Toronto band, like Triumph, they know, where the market is. They can make a good living in Canada, but if you really want to make a good living, go to America. In the mid to late 1970s, this song was played in Cleveland Ohio, on the radio. Cleveland loved it, adopted it, and RUSH was on its way to the stardom they desired. Have a listen> czcams.com/video/Gj5slzbiopw/video.html **Played in Cleveland where it all began for them. 4 years later 2015, they played Cleveland for the last time ever**. This Tom Sawyer was filmed in Quebec.
Good stuff guys...can’t go wrong with Rush...I would say The Spirit of Radio is next up (lyric video is fine)then you might be ready for Xanadu.....Exit Stage Left version....mind will be blown ✌️
Check out another Canadian Great Neil Young = Old Man Live at the BBC - Pure Talent
The only other Trio, who were so short lived together, that had comparable Elite musicians in it was Cream.
You might want to throw in The Police onto that list....? That is, if you're including short-lived bands...
@@wuhdee1 I have them just a notch below the other two. I guess you could have ELP in the Top Level as well, although they were not around all that long either, but neither was Cream, so I guess the Police and ELP could be there too. You Could add Stevie Ray Vaughn until 85 when Reese Williams was added, and early Grand Funk Railroad, can then throw in Triumph a notch below, with Nirvana, and hey Buddy Holly and the Crickets, and Budgie too. and with staying power not everyone's cup of tea but Motorhead and the opposite length together Atomic Rooster. Whew. Got more
@@toddstevens13 ELP and GFR... great songs from them. I would not have had them on the three-piece list unless you mentioned them. I would have had Triumph and Cream (easy) but the others are interesting. Thanks.
@@wuhdee1 Keep forgetting about the Master, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and for short lived, Beck, Bogart and Appice, now there is some talent together. How about the James Gang. Anyone have any others? Now not my couple of tea as compared to their earlier stuff, but there is the then there were three, Genesis era. Hmmm, Crosby, Stills and Nash, when Young was off doing his Crazy Horse or Solo stuff, and well not so Rocky, America, Three Dog Night, and one of my Canadian Favorites still going strong after 50+years The Stampeders. Who is next, sorry just bored tonight.
don't forget another Canadian trio ... Triumph !!
why does a good beat make your head bop 20 years to 75 years old...
Grand funk Railroad is a close second for a talented trio.
Yes. Start with Tom Sawyer, like you would start learning about Yes with “Roundabout”.
Perhaps Limelight or Spirit of Radio next.
That studio is about an hour north of montreal, in Morin Heights. It's beautiful there, they have a nice little ski hill and the best looking women in Quebec.
Eraserhead is probably the most unique film in cinema history
RUSH: Rock's Ultimate Superstar Heroes
All 3 members ooze talent, but Neil Pert rules on that drum kit!🥁😎Btw,to answer your question,No,no other trio packs the same punch as RUSH!🎸🎹🎙🤘
That recording studio is in rural Quebec
The movie Waterboy with Adam Sandler used this song too! Just an FYI.. Another all time favorite is “Limelight”..I love the German Shepherd shot at the beginning of the video.. I recommend that song as your next reaction video! FYI..They were at Le Studio in Quebec Canada..
9:30 actually Tom Sawyer isn't easy drumming, even for Neil, because his right hand is running nonstop 16th notes on the cymbals, which means all the other drumming... is his left hand. "Eraser Head" is David Lynch's 1st film, at the time it was Alex's favorite movie. If you like strange avant-garde B&W it's good.
Hi Boys. Enjoying your choices - particularly Rush, Supertramp, Boston - superior stuff. Recommend you try out Porcupine Tree. Their 'live at Tilburg' set is simply outstanding. Suggest ' What happens Now, Arriving Somewhere but not Here, Anaesthetise ' for starters. You like exceptional musicianship - this band has it in spades, and Gavin Harrison on drums has been hailed as the best drummer around.

Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816. The whole poem is pervaded by an atmosphere of dream and remains in the form of a vision. The vision embodied in Kubla Khan was inspired by the perusal of the travel book, Purchas His Pilgrimage. Coleridge had taken a dose of opium as an anodyne, and his eyes closed upon the line in the book, “At Zanadu Kubla Khan built a pleasure palace.” But this opened his creative vision, and the poem of about 200 lines was composed in this state of waking dream. On being fully awake, he wrote the poem down. The theme of the poem is unimportant. It describes the palace built by Kubla Khan, the grandson of Chengis Khan, the great rule of central Asia.
