  • People use dash cams for various reasons these days. The A810 from 70mai offers solid bang for the buck protection. The front camera records in 4K with a Sony Starvis 2 IMX678 sensor for excellent image quality. The back side is covered with a 1080P HDR camera. The long list of features includes excellent low light performance, dual channel recording, time and GPS location data, plus the option to record audio or not.
    Normally the dual camera system is $179, SNAG A DISCOUNT with promo code 15TOM at bit.ly/4c2Cqfa As a loyal Driven viewer I want to save you some money.
    Order the optional $20 hardwire kit and the A810 is always on the watch with collision detection and an AI motion detection algorithm that records suspicious activity outside the car. Basic ADAS features include lane departure, pedestrian and cyclist alert. This cord must be installed to unlock the full potential of the A810.
    This is a full day and night evaluation. Even rainy conditions at night. For best evaluation, watch this on a 4K television. Basic installation is easy, for this test I was up and running in 20 minutes. I found the phone app to be easy to setup and use on an iPhone 13 Pro.
    FULL DISCLOSURE- This is a promoted video and 70mai provided the A810 dual camera system for evaluation. Opinions, as always, remain my own.

    Auto liability claims adjuster here: Please, whether it's this dash cam or a different model, please install one in your car. It's cheaper than your deductible, and it keeps you from having a "he said, she said" situation when someone else runs a red light but claims they had the green. It makes it a lot easier for your insurance company to get your deductible back for you when we have proof positive that you weren't the one at fault.

      @@ducknorris233 In my case, my dash cam overwrites the oldest data once it needs more space. And with the speed of the justice system, my files will be long gone before it gets requested as evidence. Against my knowledge… Allegedly.

    The night footage is eye-catching, better than more expensive units I've seen. Good to see competition here -- hopefully it gets players to up their game.

    There are way too many dashcam brands, many of which are fly-by-the-night. Back when dashcams weren't big in the US, I used Taiwanese brands.
    For close to a decade now, I've been using Garmin brand. Maybe not the best video quality, but I love the magnetic mount, and they have been reliable for me. Somewhat ironically, all of mine are made in Taiwan.
    I own six of them (2 sets of three), because I like independent cameras (front, back, and interior-facing from the back window). No, I don't want to look at my face (LOL). If one fails at the most inopportune time, I'd still have something that could help me.
    I don't speed. I let everybody pass me. I've never gotten a speeding ticket. I've never even gotten a parking ticket. I've never caused an accident, but I was rear-ended once. I'm pretty old.

    I bought this cam. Overall quality is good. If we observe closely there are some minor lags and frame skips while recording in the 4K mode. Hope it will be fixed in the next firmware update. Not sure.

  • @curbynet
    @curbynet Před 3 měsíci

    Hi Tom, thanks for the review! I'm still looking for a dashcam that can reliably resolve a license plate number. This one does decently during the day, but things get really smeary at night. 4k is nice, but 60FPS would help with motion blur.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Před 3 měsíci +2

      FWIW, I just did a test on the A810 footage to see if I could read the plate off a car 30 feet or so in front of me. In day time it's a cinch. At night I can get a partial read and it's easy to discern the make and model.

  • @DavidDLee
    @DavidDLee Před 3 měsíci

    Thank you for the recommendation.
    From the videos you posted, I am having a hard time reading license plates. This is the holly grail of dashcam function, where the offender sped away and left the scene. Most dashcams don't do well here.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Před 3 měsíci +2

      You’re looking at a compressed video off CZcams. I can read plates from 20-30 feet away off the raw.

    8:19 Is the windshield film needed for the camera or to help the mount to adhere?

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Před 3 měsíci +2

      It's for the mount. Seems to me it could be eliminated with a strong double sided tape if mounting the camera permanently.

  • @steverogers8163
    @steverogers8163 Před 3 měsíci +2

    What FPS is it recording at? I assume 30. I ask because the dashcam I have from another brand had a secret record more where if you dropped down to 1080 the FPS would double to 60. Which was frankly better since its version of "4k" was so low grade it was no better than 1080 anyways.

    • @jonathankleinow2073
      @jonathankleinow2073 Před 3 měsíci

      Looks like 25 fps at 4K and 60 fps at 1080p.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Před 3 měsíci +1

      There's a graphic at 3:45. 25 in 4k or 60 if dropped to 1080. And it's not a secret setting. Clearly marked in the menu.

    I noticed that no reviewers mention you have to *manually* turn on the device every time you start your vehicle UNLESS you hardwire it. My 9 year old cheap Chinese dashcam powers on automatically via the cigarette lighter, this much more expensive dashcam does not 😕 wonder if this is something that 70mai tell their reviewers on CZcams not to mention.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Před 2 měsíci

      Hmmm, if I remember, this one fired up when I started the car. The power from the USB port firing up seemed to turn the cam on.

    The problem with these made in China brands is that they are focused on cramming in more features, so they can charge a higher price for it. They don’t make them to last. I’ve owned two, and one died in 2 months and the other in 6 months. Not buying another.

    • @nintendoatarikiller

      I bought a 70mai after seeing it in a customer car at a dealership I worked at. Used it as a cheapo backup dashcam for my beater volvo and it captured someone rear ending me on ice in full clarity. Granted, the picture doesn't look as good as a Korean dashcam, but I'll chalk it up to the type of Sony sensor they used. They probably used an older generation image sensor to sell it at a lower price. Highly recommend for your 2nd vehicle only as a backup. For my daily driver, I only use Korean or Taiwanese brand dashcams.
