I had one of these when they were only 2 years old. They are essentially a Golf with an S3 engine. Even all those years ago, mine was Stage 1 mapped to 310bhp which is on par with a standard MK7R which shows things haven’t really moved on much over the years!
Mainly thanks to emissions regulations strangling everything.

Trust me, ive had a couple, one of which was r tech stage 2+, and it used to upset/suprise a lot of modern and more expensive cars.

Yep cracking car K Mack, I had a stage 2 DSG one from nearly new for 7 years - dyno'd at 325bhp. Chopped it in for a Mk7 R which I had mapped and sold it within 6 months. Edition 30 was a miles better car in my eyes
Stage 1 on edition 30 is about 300 bhp,they have a audi turbo ,different to the normal mk 5 golf
It’s a Borg Warner KO4.

i have owned my edition 30 for 5 years, it has 2 owners including me and has done 190000 miles , every mile a pleasure. brilliant engines if serviced well.

Mk5 golfs are one of the finest. Owned many and would have another one on the future. Ed30’s are the best value for money still too.
If it’s the same Kenwood Unit , main dealer used to supply and fit Kenwood units as a dealer optional extra .

Calv the front wings rust because of a tiny sponge inside the arch… a lot of people remove the sponges to stop the rusting issue from the inside out!

I would love, when you say high mileage, to REALLY pull a spaceship out of the yard. We are talkin…..WAY higher than that 😂
My R32 has bad switches, they coated them in a soft touch material that falls apart. It's common on mk5 golf's.
These always used to dyno at ~260 as stock and most stage 1 maps would take them to ~300-310
Own a MK7 GTI Clubsport Edition 40 number 104 - hope my GTI can look as clean as this MK5 after 15 years 😯
The MK5 pirelli GTIs are cool too - not sure what the differences are

I have seen a 2014 golf r with a stage 3 map..its has done 143000 miles! It has full vw service history and was tuned devil development only 4 months ago. So most of the cars life it's has been standard. It is in excellent condition for a 9 year old car with the high miles.. my question is should I buy it? 🤔

£21000 for a hot hatch try and buy a new hot hatch today for that kind of money that’s inflation right there bring back the good old days lol😂 also if you buy a golf GTI mk5 get the cam follower and the water pump and cam belt changed and also the tensioners as the car is chain, driven and cam belt driven great cars if there looked after. I would say this car is a stage 1.5 as it was already remapped from factory 👍
Well high mileage it’s has to be over 180k to be high mileage really but could be lower as calv probs calls 120k high mileage

They also had a ko4 turbo instead of the ko3

I guessed 176k, not far out. Sold my 57 plate stage 1 310hp Ed30 last year, do miss it, was also reflex silver! Mine was no. 2314.

There 230bhp stock so u wouldn’t get 20 bhp on a map you’d get about 70bhp
