My personal theory after watching this video:
The two soldiers might have found the family and told them they'd take them to safety. Being military the family trusted that they knew what they were doing. The family then brought the soldiers to their cabin with them so they could pack their necessities. When the father was out hunting, the soldiers assaulted the mother and the daughter. The father took revenge by tieing the soldiers up, and the nailed signs were what killed them. I'm thinking at this point not everyone knew to go for the head, so when the father then cut the heads off and brought them into the cabin he didn't think anything of it. He's probably used to trophying animal heads and is probably going a bit stir-crazy so thought he'd do the same with the human heads. He went hunting again and came back to find that the reanimated heads had killed and turned the mother and daughter. Now the guilt sets in and he takes his own life. The "murderer" sign wasn't because he killed the soldiers, but because he indirectly killed his family.
Excellent theory!
With all the clues given, I think this is most likely what actually happened.
@@vince_c yeah, the heads in the corner had to have been brought in. I don't get why he'd toss them in and then put the sign on himself. Makes more sense that he was outside when it happened.
Makes sense, I mean around this time it takes hours for people to succumb to bites, die, and reanimate
In the beginning people didn't know that everyone was infected and anyone who dies becomes a walker. This makes your theory more plausible. He was calling himself a murderer for what happened to his family, not the soldiers.
Twd seemed so bright and interesting in the early seasons and I think that’s what made people love the show
Any show that goes on for long periods of time outside of very few ,fall off of a cliff. Either cause the writers stop caring, new writers come in and don't care, etc.
@@donkeyshow7235 ikr like i know s1 and some of s2 was the beginning of the outbreak and everything but it just felt so real and colorful in a way other seasons didn’t
@wadem7328 yeah by season 11 it was a shit CW melodrama
@@bananajesus667like why is a character sad about deep societal shi in a zombie show
I wouldnt say bright, like maybe in lighting
I love how this came back when The Governor had Hershel in his custody and when he has thinking about Rick's speech about ''not being too far gone'', he finally says ''liar'' and beheads Hershel, just like that man did to the soldiers. Brilliant story tellling.
What I loved was that it wasn't so much a condemnation of Rick, but a declaration that the Governor knew he was too far gone to come back to his humanity. Taking the katana to Herschel was just a demonstration of this.
I wish they did stuff like this in the later seasons, season 4 had quite a few memorable ones imo
I always think of the children’s room with the bodies michonne found that season. So haunting.
They missed a golden opportunity there xx
I always remember that woman Rick found in the woods. She was killing people and animals to feed her baby who was a walker, who she had in a picnic basket.
I like how these scenes represent The Governor so well, he was a Liar (told the surviving National Guard if he pointed on the map where their camp is, he would safely return them to Woodbury), Rapist (although never SA Maggie during his interrogation, he forced her to strip and forcing himself on top of her, holding her down. He could have raped her then, but decided not to. And who says he hasn't raped anyone, I doubt Maggie and Glenn were the first held captive by The Governor.) And lastly, Murderer, most of his kills were unprovoked, and lacking of any argument that his life was in danger. And the heads in the cabin and him attacking the prison, resulting his death and being put down by a gunshot to the head by Lily, really ties this grizzly gift neatly together, foreshadowing his own demise.
its quite poetic tbh.
I had like 100% forgotten about this atmoshpere-story. It is a special flavor of disturbing to see the aftermath of something clearly brutal and in-depth, but not get any of the real details, just aftermath. You wonder what kind of legacy any given person could leave others, in a world like that. Will someone follow the trail of evidence of out of curiosity, or will they just be hoping to find leftover resources? It feels like the story is playing with fear of being forgotten.
This kind of atmospheric story telling is when the walking dead is at its best, and I think they kind of lose that as the series goes on
I find the blood spot over the same eye in the photo of the man as the same destroyed eye of the Governor very intriguing.
Almost like a foreshadow to Governor’s life itself, the man even took the heads of the soldiers and collected them the same like the Governor did back at Woodbury with all the kills he made.
I find the whole scenario just strange.
He also says liar and beheads Hershel.
wow, yeah, I forgot about that
The only reason I can see why he would pin himself as a murderer, is his guilt over trusting the soldiers who killed his family. In the early days of the breakout, it wasn't unusual for families to not put their loved ones down, hoping, praying for a kill. Not understanding the people they cared about weren't in the bodies anymore. Herschel, a prime example of that with his barn full of walkers. Although it's just a little snippet, I've always wondered what triggered the country club in "Still" to go down the toilet. I've got my ideas, but nothing provable 🙂
One of the fat rich club members cheated at golf and that's where it went all downhill
He must have really loved that sweater
lol I didn’t even notice that
Every sign we see literally describes the governor he has done all those things after the world turned that’s why it camera pans up to Martinez because he was there to witness it at one point or another
Anyway great video hope to see more 😊
Yes you are right. I thought the same. I am not sure, as the photo is kinda blurred, but it looks like that man had an eyepach too!
wait but when was the gvnr a rapist?
He was considering doing it to Maggie in season 3. That or it's insuated that it did happen. Hard to remember. They may not have had it in a scene but i believe itself implied. @@rich925cal1
@@rich925cal1in the comic. He also threatened Maggie
I love these kinds of tidbits on the walking dead, environmental storytelling is the greatest tool and the walking dead did a great job with them.
The Golf Course Daryl and Beth visit is also pretty good storytelling. One of my favorites indeed.
Even tho this is a dark moment in the series, I like how this came back full circle and it even affected The Governor himself to embrace that man's view in his own increasing insanity. I also like how you gave your own point of view into this story. Season 4 as a whole was one of my favorite seasons so I'm glad this was in it. Thank you again for this explanation video.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah season 4 is seriously full of these kind of stories. An incredible season with amazing writing.
Great review of an unfortunately tragic story!!! Keep it up, thanks again...
Hey thanks so much!
Seems more like he killed the soldiers after they harmed his family and brought the heads back and one of them bit the wife or daughter or both while the man was out and when he came back he saw
Do the “shhh Mae Mae is sleeping” room when the dead bodies are found… me and my great grandmother watched this and it was the best show we had both ever watched.
I love your environmental lore breakdowns! They're unique on this platform, reminds me of the sad moments that you can find in Dead Island.
Hey thanks mate!
I’ve been loving these videos your making. I’m a big fan of TWD and just hearing specific information about certain aspects of the lore is cool to hear in this setting.
Stories like these stories , Texas being nuclear, and the clear CRM/Enclave similarities, I think the show runners inadvertently made a Fallout like universe.
Season 4 had the best, I still say the top was Sam and the girl because they talk about she was trampled and humans damaged her leg and then Sam talks about how great people still are even knowing they are not. Then you see them gone with just the leg then you see him in terminus getting killed
Heartbroken.. his should have said justice for my family x
I can't imagine what he done to those guys for what they done, but it wasn't enough.
i’m not a huge fan of the walking dead but i can appreciate the backround horror and great video and editing btw deserve more subs
Thanks so much! :)
I never noticed the connection of the phrase 'liar' and the beheading
I was always interested who the lair was. Walking dead is so awesome with the environment story teller
That man’s actions would inspire the Governor later on to commit a similar heinous crime as an act of revenge
Another fabulous video please do more of these environmental storytelling videos
I think you should also make a video explaining how Alexandria's safe zone works, with how were the walls built, the solar panels, the water supply in season 9 (which was poisonned by the whisperers), the supply raids by Glenn & Heath in town, how the food is distributed among the inhabitants, how they built "armored cars" with metal plates in order to attack the saviors during the war, how newcomers are interviewed and accepted (Magna's interview by Michonne) etc etc and probably compare it with Jackson in The Last Of Us or Alexandria in the comics, what do you think ?
That’s a great idea! I’ll see if I can do something with it some time.
Great as always, can't wait for the next one
Very good interpretation. It's probably what the writers were going for
I know you do twd but could you cover some environmental storytelling in the Fallout series?
I’ve been playing new Vegas non stop for the last two weeks, so I’d absolutely love to cover something from it. I’ll see what I can find that hasn’t been covered yet!
@@Swell-Films Vault 19 is my favorite in the whole series, it just speaks to me
@Swell-Films
I just thought about something- your channel isn't called twdexplained or anything so you're not tied to a franchise or series 😀🐢
@@greenkoopa exactly! I just prefer covering stuff that hasn’t really been touched on before, so it’s hard to expand out to other bigger franchises I’m a fan of, such as fallout.
@@greenkoopa that’s the paranoia one right? I love that one too. I think vault 22 is my favourite (I know that’s an unpopular opinion) I just love the overgrown aesthetics, and the spore carriers are horrifying.
So many videos in just one month! Been really enjoying ur content since I discovered your channel
Hey thanks for watching!
Another great video on a background story! I totally forgot about this one
I just discovered this channel and I love this series so far
thank you so much dude I was so confused about this story
Im new to your channel. I LOVE the environmental/background stories as you pick out the details and your interpretation. It's an aspect I remember from the show but never felt I had the chance to really break it down and think about it with all the other storylines going on. I just subscribed. I hope you do more of these and maybe on some other films and movies as well. You have an excellent eye for detail.
Very interesting take! I actually forgot about this scene!
I also want to add and these are excellent videos. By the way. I'm so glad I found your channel that everyone keeps saying oh, they should be stories in a tales for walking dead, but my theory of why we never saw these come to fruition cuz I'm sure they may have considered it. Is that every store you've covered so far is horrifically dark. Walking Dead is a dark series, but these are on a whole other level and I think it's more palpable to show the aftermath when everything's rotted And collagenated then showing the awful things themselves, especially with AMC being in charge. These were independent productions or were done by like HBO. Then I could totally see these being redone again, but as is they probably want to avoid the sheer art. The cloud levels of awfulness kind of the same way that for some reason AMC never let the characters swear for years.
PLEASE do more of this!!
Great stuff old chap, keep up the top wok 🧐✌️🇮🇪
Pls make more of these analysis!
Home from work time to unwind💯💯💯💯
I really love this series even if my day isnt going well i enjoy these vids and i mean that genuinely
Hey thanks so much :)
I like theese type of videos keep up the good work man 👍
Hey thanks so much!
Just found your channel, love your videos. I love analyzing TWD/FTWD episodes. This one got me thinking, in my own head cannon everything is the same except the 2 men never killed the mom and daughter. So when the husband went out for revenge he took the heads back home to show his wife he could protect her or at least get vengeance for her. His wife, daughter or both would then get bit by the heads. He sees his hubris got his family killed and in his grief he makes his murderer sign and ends it all
Great insight into this potential backstory. Yet another great idea for Tales of TWD episode
Can you make more of these vids, i love it
Ty you produce great content.
Thank you! :)
Another great vid!!!
Thank you!
@Swell-Films No!!! Thank you, my good sir.
When i watched the scenes i always thought it was michonne sending messages to either scare the governor or to warn people of philip.
I never thought much deeper than that.
You should do an episode of the storytelling of the pileup in s2 I feel there’s a lot to talk about there
I love this! definitely want to see more like this! perhaps "Judas" or "Rich Bitch"
he kinda went into the Rich Bitch one in his video about Pine Vista video from last week 👍
I haven't seen a single episode of TWD but I've been watching all your videos the last couple of days and feel like I've seen the full series 😂
You do a fantastic job of explaining everything!
You’re a legend haha. Appreciate you watching!
hop on the TWD train!
Good work
This is Gorely Great 🙌💎
Once again another great video and it’s sad what the military soldiers did to the wife and daughter. Idk why but when the world ends everyone might be to far gone.
I like these videos a lot. please do the spin offs once you finish the main show
Any chance your next video sould be the "Judas" walker?
Your stuff is awesome but when I first watched this I thought it was the group with the w's on their head I don't know why that's what I thought it was but your one is so much better 😁
They got a quicker death then i would grant
Subscribed!
Am I the only one who thinks "they must be skeletons now" everytime he sees old seasons footages?
TY SWELL FOR PREZ ! LETS GO!
We need more long form videos please, maybe a Q nd A???
Definitely! I’ll put out a Q & A post later this week!
do some more vids on environmental storytelling in TWD, for example the rich people's corpses in the golfer club in season 4, or other things like this
Might be far fetched, but the only soldiers we see in the Atlanta area in the show were killed by the governor about a year prior to the governor finding the beheaded soldiers.
It's very possible those soldiers and the "liar" and the "r@pist" soldiers found by the governor are from the same group, or in contact with one another considering they probably had the same orders to keep the peace after the virus.
If this is true, the governor despite his diabolical reasoning might have saved Woodbury and possibly the prison as well by killing the soldiers from season 3 who were probably soldiers who may have turned to banditing the roads and of course "r@p3" or in the case of the two we find in season 4 allowing and covering for soldiers who do.
My thoughts went there as well. Great theory!
Good vid. Never thought of the settings that way
Dang these side stories are darker than my skin💀🙏🏿
Perhaps he came home with both women still alive after the men did unspeakable things to them. Perhaps they told the husband what the soldiers did, before slipping into death. The husband might not have had the strength to finish them off to prevent them from turning, and instead questioned the soldiers who were still around, assuming the women wouldn't tell the man of what happened to them for their own future safety.
Maybe the soldiers proceeded to lie to him, though the husband already knew what happened. Angered, he probably chased after them, reaching the man in the field first, mortally wounding him so he cannot run, before running after the other man, wounding him and leaving him in the forest.
I think after that he went home, wrote those things on the cardboard, grabbed the other supplies and went for his revenge. He tied them up to their respective resting places, maybe even still alive, and might have nailed the signs to them before they had died.
Maybe after, to further his revenge, he would have removed their heads from their reanimated corpses, and, like you said in your video, placed them in the corner of the room to watch the bodies of their victims move around.
Maybe the bodies of his family hadn't reanimated until he left the heads in the room, which would explain why the women are animated instead of just dead bodies, and why he was able to leave the heads there without getting harmed trying to do so.
After all that he would have taken his own life, staring wistfully at his family photo as he ended it all.
he would have to tie them up before they turned but he could still kill them and wait for that to happen
Somehow I missed this episode.
Whoa i thought the governor decapitated them because he had heads in tanks
how would he of known how they where the first sign if he wasn't there to watch?
👏👏👏👏👏
I always thought it wenta bit different think the soldiers lied and attacked his wofe and daighter but i dont think they killed them, then when the man went after thesoldiers to hunt them down the wife and daughter got bit or attacked and he wasnt there to save them. When he says murderer i dont think he is talking about greif of killing the soldiers i think hes blaming himself for letting his family doe while chasing revenge.
I’m sure as Negan said it that father saw red before he committed his revenge
Whoa i thought the governor decapitated them because he had heads in tanks and killed soldiers
Do more
Will do!
Ah yes, they must be soldiers if theyre wearing a soldiers uniform 🙄
? Yeah I think that’s a pretty reasonable conclusion to come to when it’s the only evidence you have lmfao
Great theory. Maybe they’ll explore more background stories in More Tales when that releases
