One of the world's most controversial leaders, General Aladeen
The heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. - Zábava

When a comedy tells the truth about US politics
Real politicians became clowns
I thought it's the other way round
Alejandro Altamirano u deserve that evem worse honestly after all crimes u commit
Alejandro Altamirano What comedy does is take absurd true facts and make fun of it by heavily criticising it. That is why the most hilarious comedies are the ones that just spill the raw truth.
and yet people still flood here
I fucking love the line "I know it is hard for you americans to imagine but please try"
This was the line I remembered the most from this movie, years later
A system based on 51% majority is point in fact a form of dictatorship. Its 51% dictating over the other 49%. A true democracy can only exist when a super majority is required to pass laws. Also, in a true democracy all laws would have expiration dates to prevent one generation from dictating over another.
@@seth7745 how much of a supermajority? 52%? 60%? 80%?
Whatever number you pick, someone who picks that number + 1 could argue against yours using your own argument. If you think 70%, what do you say to someone who says “a system based on 70% majority is a dictatorship. A true democracy is when a supermajority of 75% passes laws”?
So where do you draw the line, how much of a supermajority?
He forgot "Imagine a country without a middle class" and "Imagine a country where 0.001% have all the wealth". And "imagine a country where the prisons are filled with dissidents instead of violent criminals"
@@lilmane1070 The fact that you are concerned with what one person thinks the number should be out of 100s of millions indicates that you don't understand what democracy is. You can easily argue between say 75% and 90%, but 51% is by no means a consensus by a long shot. Deciding on what constitutes a consensus, which is what would be needed to call it a democracy, you could simply have every person vote with a number between 51% and 100%. Take an average. Then, and only then might you have a democracy. I would bet my life on it that the number would be way higher than 51%
This has aged like fine wine in todays media

@@phillip7731 This isn’t really woke
I think the entire movie was built around this scene
Not really. The giving birth scene is the true beating heart of this cinematic masterpiece. "Where are the rebel bases?!" Lol.
Tom Osborne the true center of the movie was when he says “And I promise I will not use any uranium enriched missiles to bomb Is- oh boy I can’t do this.”
This is hands down, the greatest, most memorable scene of the entire film.
And I'm here for that
i love how 90 percent of people that watched this scene did not realize how actually political it is, everything he said is valid and on point in todays america, sad.
I remember people complaining about Borat that it isn’t political even Ali g is political
NOT today… It’s always been like that.
America is worse. With a traditional dictatorship at least you know exactly who's in charge the dictator and his cronies usually all wear uniforms. In America the politicians are puppets for rule by the shadows.
A truly powerful man would not want to be like a dictator because ultimately a dictator is not the most powerful thing. A dictator cant just go wander around as he pleases without a armed escort and even in the rare case where a dictator doesnt fear assassination he cant just walk around without people noticing him and treating him differently. Dictators for the most part always fear loss of power which is why they often implement desperate measures like harsh punishments for the most tame of jokes about them.
True power is to have someone else act in public as the "leader" and to be so obscure and unknown that you can just walk around anywhere in the country unnoticed and even better if you implement policies that end up angering the people too much to the point of revolt you can have the public leadership figurehead blamed, orchestrate a change in who the public sees as "in charge" and keep on ruling with nobody any the wiser. In fact you might just want to skip the whole revolt thing change out the public face of leadership on a routine schedule and hell even let the people think that they get a direct say in who the leader is.
The most powerful people who truly rule America will never be known. An average American could have walked past them on the street and not even been aware of it. That is true power.
Why would you assume no one understood this

You see, when this movie came out I was 12 and I thought this scene was supposed to be funny because he tried to pass an opressive dictatorship as a good thing.
It's just now that I realize the deep satirical message the writers were trying to show us.
Same.
I also used to watch South Park as a kid and was completely ignorant of all the social commentary, since I barely knew anything about the politics of my own country, yet alone the US half the globe away.
I mean at this point, anyone one who got to know a little true about our democracy would have understoud this scene, it was a punch in the head

Zavi Aman so true
"You can fill your prison with one particular racial group" he just nailed it
Why do we even call ethnicity a Race? A race to what?
And it cut straight to the black guy.
I wonder if that were the case with Japanese and Germans in US too when America was literally at war with the respective nations. No it wasn't. Somehow all the other ethnicities and races are doing fine except one? Whose fault is it?

The moment you realize he was describing United States with his definition of dictatorship.
The moment you realize he wasn't describing the key, distinguishing facets of a dictatorships.
The moment you realize that Americans are entitled and don’t know what a real dictatorship is
@@seth7745 Now you're going to tell slavery was abolished a long time ago, so, it no longer exists. There are still people that gets kidnapped and forced to work for even only food these days, among other ways to do that. Same thing applies about what this film said, like you may not have a single ruler in power, yet you have leaders that do with their citizens whatever they want, while using the system and they have them indoctrinated with the media, news and their political speeches, then you have people desperately trying to defend what they have programmed to them. The Independence movement didn't start because they wanted to give a voice to everyone as schools promote that, the rich didn't want to pay taxes for goods they didn't consume, then they started to rebel.

Republic and democracy are in two different categories. They aren't mutually exclusive.
+Martin Šriber they are in fact mutually exclusive, as nouns. "Democratic" is merely the descriptor of our particular Republic, its an adjective. The word serves to describe the process of our Republic. We are not a democracy. I appreciate you clarifying, but my point stands. A democracy outweighs the minority with the majority. A republic allows for the minority to have an equal vote regardless of population (through our states). We are not both. We are a Republic.

And to symbolize this state of things, this defeat of all government, you have set up in New York Harbour a monstrous idol which you call Liberty. The only thing that remains to complete this monument is to put on its pedestal the inscription written by Dante on the gate of Hell ‘All hope abandon, ye who enter here." - George Bernard Shaw

I don't think there is a difference between US Democracy and the way of Dictatorship
both sounded pretty same to me
I think there’s a major difference actually
A 51% majority based decision model ensures that country is always divided down the middle which allows a small group to control the masses by swaying one or two votes. In a true democracy, no law would pass without 100% agreement. True democracies don't and can not exist on large scale, only in smaller groups. Globalization is the true enemy to democracy.
