Having a court with your name while still playing is legends mode
Absolutely right!
Yeah he paid money to name it after him because his ego is too big. Forever #3
Totally inapropriate.

The great respect that De Minaur has for the legendary Nadal despite the victory is to be appreciated. He ran towards him without celebrating and without wanting to receive the applause of the spectators at the end of the match because they were all for the Tennis Legend, Nadal.
True. He did not celebrate his own win at all.
He's got class.
that's called being socially/politically smart. we don't know what de minaur (or most anyone else these days) actually thinks.
@@echochamber1234 Do you really have to be that cynical about it? He's just being a class act and I think he has genuine respect for Rafa and this was just an expression of that.
De minaur is a frog
de minaur very respectful with the win and at net
I noticed the same thing in his win against Stan the man
he is playing the game, you won't win over the crowd in catalunya by celebrating a win against nadal in barcelona
@@kevinp4640 Nadal is not even a Barca fan though of course...
Like he could have behaved any differently
Especially, when he playing against Novak, hahahahah
Worst match possibile for someone who has been long absent. De Minaur won't let the ball fall no matter what.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Some other top players might have been better match ups.
Yep, either Alex or RBA is a bad match up. It is what it is.
Agreed. De Minaur is the type who will make you work for everything.
Agreed. Although he had great power, he plays very consistent like a grinder . Opposite of our natal play style (for the most part)
De Minaur has been to Roland Garros 7 times and never made it past the 2nd round. Clay is by far his worst surface.
DeMinaur handled the win with pure class and respect.
Di Minaur is a really nice guy, the way he respected and appreciated Rafa is very gentlemanly... But it was also so sad seeing Rafa lose.. literally in tears as he waved to the crowd and made his exit. I can't imagine what it'll be like at his final match in the future😭
😢😢😢
Gentlemanly? Is that the word to describe someone who is talking behinds peoples back?

Alex seemed genuinely humble (almost embarrassed) when he received applause for the victory. Really classy of him!
The sport needs more gentlemen among the youngsters. Good for Alex.
Alex is a good guy.
You all have been saying for 7 years that Nadal will retire but you are wrong again. Nadal didn't want any injury from this tournament, so Nadal went easy.
He is a great ambassador for Autralia. I am unfortunately tempted to say one of the rare ones considering how badly behaved the most visible one have been...
Alex, Jannik and Carlos are all humble young gentlemen. I appreciate and support them.
Sad to see Rafa like this, but time comes for everyone eventually. Hope he can give one last run at RG.
Best of 5 for 2 weeks - no way!
Like what? He looked good to me.
I expect that he did not play with all his energy, so he saves it for RG.
Sadly I don’t think he has that much left in his tank .. his body is just not the same..
No way.i love rafa but high level can handle any more...meaby 1 set
De Minaur playing his best season and Nadal just coming back, so no surprise. Still a lot of quality from Nadal, but I think his farewell is coming really quickly right now. An incredible athlete that is admired by his fellow players, Alex's muted celebration was extremely respectful.
Could be during Roland Garros you think?
@@BornIntoThis20 I don't know, but I don't see him play another season. There are the physical issues, the lack of matches, and overall it feels like every match is a goodbye to the fans.
That's amazing to see the humility of Alex after his win against Nadal, how he acts is very lovely to see ❤
Yep...this. Great comment.
He's just doing that for the camera.
I love the way Alex De Minaur is also applauding him! He does not even celebrate wildly despite his win and respects the legend off the court!

Sou fã de Nole , mas jamais vou desrespeitar outra lenda do tênis ( Nadal , o segundo , Federer terceiro e Nole o primeiro).
No one EVER will break his clay records!
the physical aspect thing has more to to with the fact Nadal is balding.
Nadal's serve right now is basically WTA level
To all the people posting kind words about ADM thank you from an Australian player and fan, your comments brought tears to my eyes.
With one or two notable exceptions, the reputation of Australians on and off the court was gentlemanly conduct. I'm thinking Ken Rosewall, Lew Hoad, Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Tony Roche, Neale Fraser etc). ADM just doesn't give up, never loses his temper and always seems to behave like a guy who respects his opponent.
Tomic and Kyrgios lol. Notable that all those other players you mentioned are old fogies or even alive at this point? De Minaur lived in Spain from age 5 to 13 which are very formative years and no doubt there was expected to act with manners and show respect. In fact he spends half if not more of his year based out of Spain as a player also. That probably goes more than a bit of a distance towards why he didn't end up acting like those other two. Hewitt had his moments also.
Pat Rafter should be oun the list
Cash and Rafter, please don't forget.
Very respectful response from ADM. Some great points from Rafa but as he is older it takes time to get into match level. The only way to get better is to play other top players at events.
And it is some crazy circle - to play more and with good players you have to be healthy and even today he was not 100% healthy (look at serve speeds - 160-180 1st serve and 2nd serve much slower).
respectful? bro just wanted to see Rafa running forward from the first point with non stop dropshots. But Rafa managed to play his game for a while.
@@vulnerasanentum462 Exactly. De Vaxxauer is a l*ttle b*st*rd.

@@jonas8993 Rafa < Roger < Nole. Rafa's not going to make a big run, his fitness and desire are lacking. You could tell there was a certain point in the second set where he realized he couldn't win and just stopped trying. Play out the farewell tour, don't even think about the olympics because Spain has more deserving players, and retire while we can still remember the real king of clay and not this faded version.

Rafa you are forever the GOAT, no matter what. Your legend status has forever engrained in the history, no matter what!!! Rafa the Grand Champ!
Rafa had played and won on a court named after him, so many times, what more can one achieve.
The God of clay forever
Honestly, Rafa isn't looking too bad.
Compared to a few years back... obviously, his serve is the most impacted, his injury keeping him from going full throttle.
- Other than that, he used to have far more "shape" and variation on his backhand. Now, he is actually hitting it harder but flatter.
-His forehand has lost a little venom. He used to pull people way off the court.
- And he used to hit those crazy angled forehand cross-court winners, didn't see much of it or any of it this time around.
he started serving in this turnament before he didnt even pratice and his forhand still has time to improve there is still a lot of time his level will improve just needs to stay healty the biggest problem is his mevement tho...
He is looking really Bad. No Chance vor Paris
yeah not too bad, but not legend status right now. In his peak years he can be 30% better in speed, strength, and serve. He is carrying himself through these early rounds with his game knowledge and arm power. Not only is he holding back in fear of injury, but also he only maxes out at 70% of his prime self. The rest of the story tells itself. Unfortunately, raw power is needed to win at this level of tennis.
I would like to add that prime Nadal would win this match vs De minaur in straight sets no doubt. The real question would be if he could win all the clay tournaments this season hahahaha
@davidhan2 You're grossly underestimating Rafa.
Nadal from 08-13 was peak.
After his serious knee issue, 2014 knee surgery, and a host of other issues, he's been playing at around 70% of his prime. i.e., from 2014 to his latest injury. Even a 70% Nadal is good enough to sweep all the clay titles. Only Djokovic has beaten a 70% (or so) Nadal at FO. His 2009 loss was again due to knee issues.
Currently, he's probably playing at around 40 to 50% of his absolute prime.
A prime Nadal at FO is pretty much unbeatable. And the toughest competitor in the history of tennis.
@@astro6020 start of 2014 was also his prime
King of Clay... Forever

Mulțumesc pentru minunatul joc. Ne vei lipsi in viitor!❤️
He played a very good player today, the important thing is that he stays healthy and keeps on adding court time. If he manages to gain consistency then he can get back to a high level.
Even today he wasn't 100% healthy. Look at his serve speeds - 160-180. Off course I mean the first one, cause the 2nd serve was much slower.
He needs a lot of these💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉 like the FO 2022.

I used to live right outside the Real Club de Tennis de Barcelona where this tournament is held. I took my son one evening to get Rafa’s autograph after he won the final against Tsitsipas (2 years ago?) and Nadal hobbled out at 9pm walking like an old man. His body has been breaking down for years and is now falling apart. He could barely walk 2 years ago after the final, imagine what he’s like now with 2 more years on the clock and countless injuries in the last 12 months. Sad to say but I think physically he can no longer compete. Maybe for a set or two, or one round or two, but no chance in a GS with 7 matches and a minimum of 21 sets in 14 days
@@alextesei6978 Thanks for your story. He is not the same since 2015. Always injured since 2005 but miraculously perfect for the FO every year.💯👍🙏
Rafa came to say bye. Otherwise he is never so content while greeting his victor at the net.
Nadal did a great job...that tells you like it or not how well prepare is Djocovic at his age and still beating guys at this level...
"Prepared" is not the word.
Health is the key anr novak has been a genius on and off the court but has luck of having no permanent health issues like rafa.
I mean has that foot ongoing issue let alone recent.injuries.
key is that novx, they dont call him that for no reason, eh...
@@rogerreverence4737it's not simply luck. there are so many factors; the way they play, training, food, weight, genetics...
De Minaur also bet Djokovic not that long ago
@@DeliriumElectric Novak was dealing with a wrist injury at that time. And he got his revenge against De Minaur on his worst surface. Novak is in way better shape and still has a chance to win a slam.
All in all all Rafa's records on clay will stay unbreakable for decades! Without a doubt - best clay court player in a HISTORY! A true legend! ..
That's all cool and jumbo, but lots of his fans wish he was just best tennis player period...not just on clay...the fact, that so much about his stats skewed towards clay is a detriment factor for his greatness! Were it not for his superior h2h with Federer and his 6 hard court grand slam titles won, that notion that he is the king of one surface would have been even stronger...luckily he has h2h advantage over Federer everywhere and those 6 hard court slam titles, so there is that...but still...not enough to make up for his skewed clay court resume...and then you have Djokovic with three career slams, 24 slam titles, 420+ weeks as #1 (and counting), 7 yec titles, 40 masters, 8 ye#1 season finishes...and then you compare it to Nadal and the only thing, that he has compared to that statistical epicness is his 22 slams and yet he trails them even in THAT department...Nadal fans can bring up olympic gold as many times as they want, but it's stupid to deny one such advantage cannot compete with so many major records listed above...and even that one advantage has a chance to be erased this year if Novak manages to finally win OG in Paris...and on clay courts at that, on very specific RG courts btw, which is Nadal's 2nd home basically...think about it!...and which else card they gonna pull out then? Their grand slam centric h2h records?! LOL Don't make me laugh...The last argument left, that can be more or less taken seriously is an olympic gold, once that obstacle is cleared for Novak, there can no longer remain any legit arguments one should take seriously...

Just going by these highlights, as I didn't watch the match in full, I don't think Nadal will be too disappointed. He played a strong first set. He will be learning where he is falling short and if he can maintain fitness will be hungry for the French Open. He is such a strong competitor that I think there is still more to come from this Champion.

Whatever happens this season, Rafa will always be Rafa, you cant kill the passion.
It happens, with the exception of Djokovic and Tom Brady we all get older in this world.
Rafa is a legend. The fact he plays with the injuries at this age shows just how much he loves playing tennis.
People put a lot of expectations on Rafa in this one. He was up against a top 10 (or near top 10 I guess) player who is extremely speedy and can keep the ball in play. A guy who beat Djokovic and Zverev this season already. And Nadal is playing his 4th match of the year coming off a lot of injuries. Nadal will get better each tournament he plays healthy, but the question is how good he can get at this age. His movement actually looks decent and his ground strokes are the usual Rafa. Just needs match fitness and some sharpness

The commentator keeps pronouncing his surname incorrectly it's pronounced De Minaur (in its original Spanish: De Miñaur) not "The Minor".
Not incorrectly. He just pronounces that name in English and not Spanish. Similarly, Söderling is pronounced differently in Swedish, and van de Zandschulp differently in Dutch. But of course, no one expects an English commentator to pronounce those names in Swedish or Dutch.
How sad it is to see basically an ex player to be demolished by a not specialist of clay as de minaur. What a pain, time to retire
Greater merit for the Australian, furthermore, no tennis player, no human being is eternal. Please stop crying for Nadal, it's a shame, he is simply a great tennis player, not a saint, if these exist??, that is not the case.

The things Rafa's uncle and especially his fans says are straight up disrespectful towards other players.
KING OF INJURY IS BACK!!!🇪🇦
At least he doesn't have a brain injury like you, King of haters.
Stupid comments like this is why comments should be blocked
De minaur has improved so much in the last 12 months or so, very impressive and tough to beat for anyone
Ok now we know Nadal can't compete with any top 10 guys on his favourite surface it's safe to say he'll never be at this level again.
Is it possible to not telegraph what happened in the match, in the thumbnail of the video? I think if it's a video with Rafa in it, we will all watch it, as we may not get many more of these videos of a great champion. Please just show us the players in the thumbnail, thank you! Love the videos, keep up the great work!
I feel like this was a moment. Ted Williams last at bat. Tyson searching for his mouth piece. Marciano knocking down Louis. Federer being comforted my Nadal while crying.
De minaur very polite player❤
Glad to see De Minaur's PR team having a field day in the comments. Rafa man, I love you! It's good to see you back. Thank you for your great games at Barcelona! I picked Tennis cuz of Federer, I learned to dominate rallies from Nadal and I was inspired by Novak to never give up!
This is a fine workout welcome back for Rafa. Dimi had a couple of goofy stick saves in the 1st set, otherwise he would have lost it 6-4, and been deflated and lost the 2nd as well. This is nothing but positives against an in-form Dimi. He's fine.
Coming back from Nadal’s last Madrid match and the beautiful farewell he’s received there, the Barcelona Tournament made themselves look ridiculous in retrospect. No interview, no “thank you”, no nothing. Dude’s won this gig a *dozen* times yet they just let him walk off the court in silence😂🤦🏻
I hope Rafa would still be in his best mode in RG this year, at least. Good luck, great to see you playing. Thank you.
Rafa may have gotten beat, but he wasn't looking too bad. There isn't any player wanting him in the French draw.
No mas ya pabor, dwele ya kanamon mira si ta perde ya boss! Gracias!
