Can you retrofit Carplay or Android auto on 2018 Primes?
Thank you for posting this!
Now, if I could only figure out how to purchase and replace the glass touchscreen I'd be home.
We're you able to do it?
@@ismaelmadrigal I was able to do it. It was NOT straight forward. The only real difficulty is getting a screen, Toyota won't sell just the screen, and figuring out who makes it is a challenge. In the end I found a broken unit online, bought it, and transferred the screen to my unit. Also, this preserves our personal information which is in the unit. The physical work involves removing a lot of screws, going down a few layers and unplugging ribbon cables as you go. Then reversing the process. It was a lot of fiddling and very doable.
Any idea whether that ribbon cable for the screen is the same between model years? Is it just one ribbon cable to the touch screen, or are there a few? Skis between the front seats slid forward and cracked my screen but the unit is otherwise functional. Dealer quoted $6500 for repair. I've got a 2017 Prime Advanced with JBL audio like in this video, and the external connectors here look different than replacement units I can find online, so I'd be great to just disassemble the unit and replace a standard screen.
@@michaelzehnpfennig8379 I recall more than one ribbon cable, and they are placed and made in a way that each cable only logically goes to one connector. There may have been a single ribbon cable going to the screen. That replacement cost is outrageous. I came close to finding a screen that isn't a Toyota part and the electrical contacts and ribbon cables didn't work out. I do recall the screen isn't made by Toyota and at one time I did find the original manufacturer by looking for identifiers on the unit as I disassembled it. I got as far as finding the manufacturer online only to run into a wall in which they would only talk to manufacturers and not the public. No, I no longer know who the company was. Good luck!
Hey by any chance would you know why my prius prime 2017 audio wont came from speaker even when its connect to BT or if its in AM or FM there is no sound coming i try holding the mode button to mute and unmute but it doesnt display to show me if that button even works when i try to increase or decrease the volume that does not display when i click on it by any chance would you know why
I just looking to get a headunit replace it with newer android auto, the one that comes with the car huge lag and cost too much to replace vs paying 2k for a way better system , but most of the screens not sent to usa
Any idea who the manufacturer is?
The one shown in this video was manufactured by Denso.
My entire screen went black none of the buttons work on it except for the flashing warning lights. I checked all the fuses. Are there any other hidden fuses in the back?
There are no hidden fuses in the back. Do you have sound?
