Anxiety or “attention seeking behavior”? I’ve never seen someone hyperventilate from seeking attention, that makes anxiety sound like an attention seeking behavior
I thought the same thing!
My parents make fun of me when I hyperventilate from anxiety
That’s just terrible to say that
Totally get what you mean. I also think we need to break the stigma of attention-seeking behaviours as a bad thing if you know what I mean? Attention seeking behaviours are your way of asking for help without asking for help. I don’t think they’re inherently bad, they could be caused by anxiety, loneliness, loads of reasons!
I'm not saying you're wrong but you should look in to some of the deeper psychology of anxiety. Though this is a guide more for people who are working in first aid scenarios were sometimes kids or other people will hyperventilate to make the problem seem bigger
I hyperventilate almost every once a week and my classmates and teachers are scared of me I feel bad everyday
It’s ur fault let them know you can’t help it
Me too
First time is scary but you will adapt it and can control yourself in dealing with it by clamming yourself taking deep breath and thinking about virtual imagination challenge with a reward if you overcome your panic attack
how are u doing now
my mom laughs at me whenever i hyperventilate.
If you experience this, start writing whatever comes to your mind with your finger on any surface to keep your mind and awareness away from you breathing so that everything goes back to normal. Hope this helps, because it def helped me!
Thank you so much for this
Thank you cause I hyperventilate cause I have really bad anxiety😢

This is so helpful, my parents had a fight and my mum was hyperventilating really bad and I didn't know what to do. Thanks
My mom suffers from hyperventilation syndrome. One trick we've figured out is to use a piece of A4 size paper to make a funnel like shape, then put it on her face like an oxygen mask.
It's more of a psychological thing in that it helps her control her breathing and get it stable.
How to treat hyperventilation?
"Go see a doctor"
Very disappointed with this vid also
real
I had a anxiety attack like 6 years ago that ish was terrible. I felt like I wasn't getting enough air. I bought an spo2 oxygen finger checker to always know my oxygen levels whenever I felt like I couldn't breathe id use it and realize my oxygen levels were perfectly fine. After a few months I notice that all those uncomfortable not breathing feelings were lies my anxiety was telling me with no facts to back it up. So after a while I just stopped using it because I knew I was safe even if I didn't feel like I was.
I was just hyperventilating and my mom thought I was going to go to the hospital because she’s never seen me hyperventilate because I’m so young. I’ve only done it like 3 times and I’m kinda hyperventilating right now and it’s not as bad as earlier. I was hyperventilating for like an hour and I couldn’t breath.
Dont overthink hyperventilating, it is just irregular breathing, you are in charge of your breathing So you can calm yourself
Same problem from 15days😭😭😭😭😭😭
I’ve just been diagnosed with this. I get bad anxiety but I don’t do fast breathing or look for attention. When I feel anxious I take deep breaths. I also have blood oxygen around 85-6. Have had for a year now.
i hyperventilate once in a while but it’s not a lot like i only do it when i’m stressed rlly
how do i tell the difference between an asthma attack and hyperventilation..
thanks for this video. when i give first aid to people that are hyperventilating and nothing else helps, i normally try to be extremely dominant, command them to breathe slowly and try to synchronize their breath rythm with mine. saved me from calling an ambulance two times but i still don't know if this is the correct way to do it, is it okay to do what i said?
+holzi i recently had to call an ambulance for someone experiencing a panic attack along with hyperventilation. She'd been hyperventilating for about 10 minutes which is a long long time and her hands had gone all claw-like from the cramps. When the paramedic arrived she was very dominant and authoritative and told the girl firmly to hold her breath for a few seconds every time she took a breath in. It was extraordinary - her breathing returned to almost normal with about 10 seconds.
This video is completely useless!! It doesn't give direction on how to help at all. Encouraging the victim to breathe with you IS actually VERY helpful. They end up focusing on YOU rather than their panic, which in turn helps them to calm down.
As someone who has hyperventilated when having a panic attack I would not recommend being intimidating because for some people it will only make it worse if they feel pressured.
I hyperventilate everyday, and it's frightening. Sometimes i think i would die while going to work because i can't breathe
Have you gotten any better?

Hi Julia, thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear that this video has not been of use - we'd recommend that you seek medical advice on preventing and controlling panic attacks in the future, if this is something you struggle with.
I need help.
Few weeks ago i was traveling with my mom in a car, not long after we started riding we were going downhill where wind hit my face very hard which was probably because i was sitting at the back of the car too, which caused me to have some kind of panic attack where i started breathing weird through the mouth, now i have hyperventilation since that day and last night i even had a panic attack. Does anyone know if this is curable cuz it's pretty bad.
thank you for that cause for me sometome i hypervintelate and this is helpful heheh thanks again
You can also use a brown bag or a brown paper bag to control their breathing, I hyperventilated yesterday and my hands and legs for cramming and so weak, i was dizzy and felt like fainting. The thing is if this is caused by anxiety at least 1-2 people make sure the person hyperventilating is comfortable with those ppl. Lift their feet up and if it doesn't get any better for around 10 m maybe get them to the nearest infirmary.
my hyperventilation comes on unexpectedly usually once or twice a year. i get the racing heart, light headed, blood shot eyes, strange feeling in my stomach, blurred vision. I have to sit down and breath properly. Afterwards I feel tired and dizzy and I get acid reflux. My head pulsates.
It's HORRIBLE! Can anyone relate to these symptoms. I have suffered bad anxiety all my life. I am now 37.
I can totally relate
I have the same issues. I usually hyperventilate when I enter a store for some odd reason or after I workout in the gym.
Yes. I have episodes that are so bad I have to call an ambulance, thankfully the operator helps to focus me and my breathing i truly believe I am dying at this point , everything is unreal but like a living nightmare. I wake up with it and it can become hyperventilation if I don't get control of my thoughts and breathing soon enough. There are always triggers with me though which are always stress related. I hate it. I sometimes wish for death because it would be easier than crawling along the floor passing out on the phone to emergency services.
@@Mysterywhiteboy78 :-( this sounds awful mysterywhiteboy78 :(
@@Mysterywhiteboy78 I was given hydroxyzine 10mg and it helps. If hyperventilation sets in, it’s less severe and my chest doesn’t tighten as much
Like my breathing wasn’t going on it’s own. I keep having to do it on my own. I’m scared and don’t know what’s going on
Inhale and exhale on a paper bag, always bring paper bag before you go everywhere..

To prevent hyperventilation, you have to be proactive. Some don’t know this, but taking too much aspirin can lead to hyperventilation.
Sorry what do you mean by proactive?
My dry sense of humour can transcend time & space thats for sure 😤😤😤

What happens if you live on your own and it happens in the middle of the night and there's nobody to help calm you down?.... It happened to me last night
Idk if u are still struggling with this or not, but I had hyperventilation last night and my mother was sleeping so I had to rely on myself, i think one thing u must do is believe that you're gonna be better and believe in those exercises, but since it was two years ago when u made this comment i suppose u learned how to control it except if u cured that.
I started just now I was laughing with my friend and all of a sudden my face starts going numb
That did nothing for me
I don't have to get doctor through GOD everything is possible just pray or talk to somebody about it
this helped during a panic attack.
Oh! It's St John ambulance! I want to join the first aid thing you have but I am soooooooooooo busy!

can we advise the casualty to rebreathe his own air through a paper bag?
Ong Yong Shien Currently, paper bag therapy is not used in emergency medical
Ong Yong Shien paper bag therapy is not that good anymore how many pple think actually I have heard it's pretty bad
Hi there, do not advise the casualty to rebreathe their own air from a paper bag - it may aggravate a more serious illness.
Paper bag is actually very helpful and not dangerous in the slightest. I have severe anxiety/panic disorder, I have hyperventilated a couple times and the bag worked both times. I don't understand why first aiders say it is not used anymore.
The purpose of the Buteyko method is to normalize (or improve) your personal unconscious breathing pattern 24/7 so as to provide respiration in accordance with internationally accepted medical and physiological norms. Practically speaking, the method is designed to eliminate chronic alveolar hyperventilation (or too much breathing) and to restore the normal balance between carbon dioxide and oxygen in the lungs, blood and all cells.
For more information about the Buteyko method you can read the following 2 articles:
- Kazarinov V.A. (1990) "The biochemical basis of KP Buteyko's theory of the diseases of deep respiration"

It’s actually not deep at all. It’s very rapid, shallow breathing. Hence why sufferers are encouraged to try to take much deeper, slower breaths to calm down.
anyone else go very cold all of a sudden when they Hyperventilate?
