Also don't move them unless you are sure they is no Neck, spinal, or head injury. Moving them with a broken back can cause the discs to move and leave them permanently paralyzed. If you saw the accident you should know, if not then ask around or if the casualty is conscious ask them.

Shouldnt you first go trough your protocol ABCDE before considering this, because it is much more difficult to do that in a good way if the person is on the side in stead of on the back.
When the person starts to vomit, bleed from mouth then you put the person on the recovery position and when it stops vomiting then you can return to the normal position and continue your survey.
Or if you have to leave the patient because you want to call for help, then you cal also use the recovery position.
If you are with 2 person then you can always use the chinlift or jaw thrust there is no reason to put the patient on recovery position UNLESS it starts vomiting.. Then you can temporary put the patient in the recovery position to safe the airway and when the danger is gone put again on the back and maintain jawthrust/chin lift.

I would suggest putting someone in this position after doing a full survey and sweep of the surrounding area to make sure nothing dangerous like rocks or glass is on the ground. Then if there are other people, assign jobs, such as calling the emergency services if they don't seem to be breathing perform CPR if you are certified, if not then find your nearest AED. there is usually one in public places like supermarkets and shopping centres. Then if their breathing is regular and normal, you place them in the recovery position and wait for help. Never get off the line with the dispatcher until the ambulance arrives, if there are any complications they will tell you what to do. never move a patient if there is a risk of spinal, neck or head injury. If you didn't witness what happened, ask around if you can to find out.

    • @brad_8711

If a patient is unresponsive, their muscles relax, including the tongue. This could fall back and block the airway, the recovery position is there to protect the airway as this is the number 1 priority. If you are at all worried, the call handler will advise you when you ring 999.
